A teaser trailer for Evangelion: 3.0+1.0, the fourth and final Rebuild of Evangelion film, debuted throughout theaters in Japan on Friday and revealed that the film will premiere in 2020. The trailer will continue to screen in theaters until August 31. Production company Toho and animation studios Toei Animation and Khara will jointly distribute the film. Additional staff members for the film were also revealed.

The four-part film series is a reboot of the original Neon Genesis Evangelion TV anime. The 1995 TV series by Gainax and Tatsunoko Production ran for 26 episodes, which was followed by a Gainax and Production IG-produced sequel film in 1997.
The first film of the tetralogy, Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone, premiered in September 2007. The second movie, Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance, debuted in July 2009, and the third film Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo, opened in November 2012. The fourth and final film has been postponed since the initial announcement in 2011.
