VE reached almost 7K in total. That's great! This is now well beyond the stalker prediction at 2.5K estimation! Sora yori added another 400 to it and now well over 10.5K! Another number that makes me happy! 9.9K for Take Your Marks! Always happy to see good numbers for KyoAni shows!

60K for Panzar Vor! Astonishing really!

Good to see Houseki no Kuni doing fantastic as well! I hope we get a second season!

For Free! and TourRabu, it's female otaku. For Houseki, I think it would be male otaku. I'm not saying that Free! and TouRabu can only be watched by females or Houseki only males or anything, but I think it's safe to say that the ones who bought the discs are the hardcore fans.

Houseki has a pretty mixed fan base but its leaning more towards female. A lot of the marketing in Japan was done through female oriented magazine and events for the show tend to have more female then male.

"Ordinary" CGDCT Basho in the end beating the hyped Violet and earned almost 10k for the first disc. While the school comedy Tatagi earned almost the same amount ... Not very nice for KyoAni.

And... I still feel bad for Koi wa Ameagari no You...

Well, I do not know who the series was targeted to initially, but in Russia it was mostly girls who were swaying towards LGBT themes and unusual works with "high meaning".

I am sure what you said for Russia is pretty much same for everywhere. And lot of newer manga chapter feels like its aiming more and more toward female demographic but not in a bad way.

Well, there is nothing wrong with the fact that the work is focused on female demographics, I think. In any case, I found this title pretty good, although I'm clearly not its audience.

Even though from what I recall the thing didn't endured for too long either. But it sucks still since the show is really good on its own right.

Houseki no Kuni might claim the show has a mixed fan base,
but in reality, more than 90% of its BD purchases are made by male fans.
Because, in most cases, the driving factor of BD purchases is the love for the characters not the stories.
Only the male otakus who seriously fell in love with those female characters and went into full "Oh, my lovely Phosphophyllite" mode,
actually buy BDs which matters the most when it comes to continuing anime series.
Most of those females, which become the fans of the shows full of female characters, just love the storyline of the show
and are likely to end up just buying some manga books or cheap merchandises of those shows.
Or like those 'female fans' of the shows such as 'LoveLive' or 'Hibike! Euphonium',
they might just love to draw attention of male fans of the shows by doing cos-play of the characters.
The only shows female otakus are willing to spend some money on BDs are the shows which feature hot male characters, which they can find themselves seriously falling in love with.
And the same goes for 'male fans' of the shows full of male characters.
Even though there are as many 'male fans' of Gintama as female fans,
99% of its DVD purchases are made by its female fans.
That's why in Japan, they just label the shows which center around female characters "male-tageted shows",
and the shows full of male characters "female-targeted shows".

But the gems from Houseki no Kuni are genderless. If male otaku can still see them as cute girls, what's stopping female otaku from buying the BDs for the cute guys they see?

Judging by the discussions, rather girls tend to see these characters as girls, and guys as guys, lol. For me personally it is rather a complete cast of androgynous male crossdressers.

@hanipot2020 Any girl from Tambler will tell you that all the characters of Love Live are lesbians and the show is not aimed at men, lol. But if without jokes, it all depends on the work - cast Maria-sama is 99% composed of girls, but this show has never been particularly popular among males.
