I recently watched a documentary about Jones town and the People's Temple cult. Apparently cults are a big issue in Japan and I remember there was a cult in Mob Psycho 100 and in Welcome to the NHK. I makes sense cause Japan is a more collectivist culture and stuff. Anyway what do you think about cults? Have you ever been in a cult or considered joining? Also what do you consider a cult?

"The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe. If you try it, you will be lonely often, and sometimes frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself."

A cult to me, is a group that has a common interest or goal with religious, spiritual or philosophical roots. Usually, it's hard to leave them.

Never been in a cult and I don't see why I'd want to join one. I'd like to believe that there are some harmless ones out there but honestly, all I've ever heard about cults are the usual bad shit. So I guess my opinion about them will reflect that.

They're bad?

I was never in a cult, and want things to stay the way they are now. I don't actually like cults. I've heard what cults are, and the things the people in there do, and I could sincerely say that it's not my thing, especially since some of them have to do with religion, and I'm agnostic, and prefer to ignore religious stuff as much as possible. That's my opinion on cults. Don't care about them as long as they don't bother me.

I hate them and I wish they could all burn especially the religious cults.
They are all seriously annoying with their opinionated preaching.

I feel indifferent about the vast Majority of them, however, I do support some Things the "deutsche Burschenschaften" (German Fraternities) have been fighting for since the Foundation of the Urburschenschaft more than 200 Years ago.

as a religious guy, I fucking detest them and hate them

they are the group which is probably the most dangerous in psychological aspect, even Oyasumi Punpun showed this(in a bad way) how dangerous it is to be trapped with these guys, worst they perform dangerous rituals that requires deaths or mass suicides.

while there are some harmless cults, I wouldn't call them cults,

I don't see the difference between a cult and a religion.

To me, there are a lot of things that employ the same method as cults that people wouldn’t consider “cults” by default. I’d be willing to say that any violent groupthought at least somewhat is compatible with the idea of what a cult is. Cults basically brainwash. There are groups that do some level of “brainwashing” while still allowing their followers to technically espouse their crap ideologies that are not considered cults, but they do in a sense behave like a cult. When I was in my teens I was a big tumblrina among other things, and the sociopolitical cultures that I was associated with encouraged a very “cult” mindset built on conformity and likeness rather than individualism.

TL;DR shits fucked up, man, and I don’t want to ever be a part of cultlike behavior again.

cultists are annoying
so do most people around me who are religious
they always try to persuade me or does things based on their beliefs and force others to join them even people are
reluctant
and sometimes they get triggered by things that are against
their beliefs

I didn't say they were a good thing and that people should join them. How does acknowledging that cults show how much charisma can influence people contradict my previous statement?

I guess the korean propaganda really did change me and I didn't notice

I don't know what that means, but maybe it's better this way.

It's a matter of attitude, but fair point.
