This is sad tbh. Even if Sei tells the truth, the police will have to investigate. I'm guessing he'll have to keep silent or lie about it.
I don't know whether there's any merit in turning Sei's response into a cliffhanger since it is almost impossible that he will actually the truth.
Not just from a storytelling point where an early "betrayal" or attempt at retribution would hinder the story to unfold and his mother to do crazier things and make the story longer and more interesting; it's also guaranteed since we know Sei good enough to know that he won't be able to tell.
The whole incident was so crazy, no one would believe him anyway, since his mother's split personality doesn't remember the incident, he probably questions whether it took place in the first place and he likely feels guilty since he witnessed everything, not to mention that he doesn't want his mother to end up in jail or at least tries to deny that she'd ever do something like that...
I just love how Shuzo has refined his visual storytelling skills, over the course of Happiness and especially in this series he has managed to master depicting the atmosphere of his stories so perfectly well and I'm amazed by the point of view he chooses for his panels and how he makes such good use of the settings his characters visit.
As someone on mangastream mentioned, we probably won't get the initially anticipated incest scenes between Sei and his mom.
Which I find a little sad since I've really wanted to see something as fucked up in a Shuzo manga but then again, what we've gotten has been pretty great so far~
Shigeru has been airlifted to the hospital and had a successful surgery, but his brain is badly bruised and doctors say he won't be the same anymore.
Sei falls to his knees, probably from guilt, as the police approach the family to ask some questions. They question Sei and his mother since they saw what happened. Now Sei has a chance to tell the truth, but can he do it? Will he turn his mother in or will he keep her secret?
Poor Shigeru. If there's no chance of getting better this might be worse than being dead. But I also feel sorry for Seeichi, there's a lot of pressure on him now to say the least.
