I hardly see Japanese people here.
People who like anime usually use other site.

Yes, i was going back to my university and i met one Japanese person at the bus station, he seemed cool and i started telling him the Japanese words that i knew from Anime lol, then i put my hand on his back and started knocking like he was a door and telling him you need any help bro? I'm here for fellow Japanese.

Japanese people are very shy.

Since I study Japanese, and I've been in Japan for one month and a half so, yes. Plenty.

I also have a Japanese teacher that teaches Japanese in my native language.

I think understand Japanese raise your enjoyment in watching anime significantly. Because there is always things that lost in translation. That's why I don't really enjoy reading manga.

When watching, I hear the Japanese while reading the subs. So I know when one character using certain style when speaking (such as honorific/bad language/child language/old people language/dialect, etc) which mostly all of it got lost in translation.

So many of you must live in really homogeneous areas. I never realised how multicultural my town is.

OT: Yes. When I was in Japan. Also in my own country.

I've lived in Japan for 7 years and my current job involves translating / interpreting between Japanese companies and my co-workers, so yeah ... I guess the answer is YES. ;)

there's were a few japanese foreign exchange students who lived on my floor my freshman year of university, and i've talked to them. they weren't into anime, manga, or anything. they knew of it, but not much. i guess they embraced western cultures more since they have host families in america and only visit home during the summer.

I have a few Japanese friends. They enjoy my attempts at trying to speak Japanese, and often encourage it. One of them speaks English pretty well but the others... not so much.

I chatted with around three Japanese girls (separately) online at some point when I got into this "Teach English" stint... it was hard to put much of my time into it so the entire thing kinda fell out. It was nice while it lasted though. Even if we started chatting so I can teach them English, it ended up with us just chatting about everyday life stuff. lol

I go to a university with a high number of international students. I speak to Japanese people on a regular basis, but I'm fortunate in that they have some knowledge of English so the language barrier isn't that difficult. An old classmate of mine and I are still very good friends ^_^

I have Japanese friends and some of my audiophile customers are Japanese.

As I am a businessman, I treat them as adults. They do notice my anime posters (Nausicaä posters mainly) all over my home theater/studio, and anime always comes up in the discussion. One of my Japanese friends gave me an expensive pair of hi-fi loudspeakers, the reason given, that his new speakers came in and his apartment didn't have space for both. He also loaned me his CD collection. Very nice, kind and generous person.

My other Japanese friend was a political activist in Japan in the 1990s. He is now living in the US. We met about 18 years ago when he first came to New York. He's well versed in English and has a unique two-sides perspective, so I can learn a lot from him without the getting lost in translation problem.

I've had a few Japanese penpals over the years. All of them have been super sweet. One used to tease me because I could only write in hiragana and he said it was cute.

Penpals are something I find really heartwarming because even if it's only for a short while, you get to connect with someone on the other side of the world and share tiny pieces of your lives with each other. It's sweet.

I have a Japanese PenPal called Tsuyoshi, he is super awkward and cute >.< Though I think he has a crush on me. Or he is super polite. Or a natural flirt. He is just very shy (?)

Anyways, he does help me with my japanese from time to time, and says "my japanese is cute" and keeps remarking how I'm getting better! He also calls me BakaMikan from time to time (my name, Mica, transformed into the word mandarin in japanese -mikan-). We also talk about how our lives are going, though talking to him might be sort of hard because of the 12 hours time difference :/ Still, when we do, it's so much fun! I was once at a club, and around 02:00am (14:00pm for him) I started telling him how all my friends were drunk and I was on the back of the club watching Grey's Anatomy on Netflix, he though it was so funny!! Or that other time when in the beginning when he wouldn't send a picture of him and I started saying he was a hentai, ecchi and stuff like that XD He asked me where I learned those words (COUGH, anime, COUGH) and told me off saying a lady of my age shouldn't be saying them (I was 16, he is two years older than me) XD

But no, I haven spoken to a japanese face to face yet (though I saw my mom's client a few times, which seems to be half japanese, but we didn't talk about anything related to his culture or stuff)

Like every other day honestly. My mom's best friend is Japanese, and I see her a lot.

She actually was the one to show me my first Ghibli movie, and gave me some of her old collection of original dragon ball manga. She thought it would help interest me in learning Japanese lol.

Not really. I've met a of Japanese person, but never actually had a conversation with them.

The first time I was in NYC and I helped a Japanese tourist and he thanked me. That was the most words we exchanged.

I'm an English speaker who has spoken in German to a Japanese person in Switzerland, if that counts for anything; we were both transfer students and we were friends for a while and spoke regularly, never spoken about anything distinctively Japanese with them though except for where he comes from.

There were a lot of Japanese exchange students at the campus I went to since where I live pretty much shares the same climate as where they were from, making the transition easier I guess. A lot of what we grow here goes there, I think.

I have talked to a few but mainly they moved in herds going to classes. I've tutored a few with math, usually they were really behind the classes.
