I want to know what are MAL users' thought of kuudere, so I made this thread.
The thing that I dun quite understand is when I found out SOME people who hate characters that are bland, dull and boring, they actually refer to kuudere. I wonder if this also apply to you?
I'm not a fan of Kuudere, but kuudere like Shiina Mashiro and Shiraishi Urara are my favourite <3
There are more kuudere that I know such as Homura Akemi, Mikasa Ackerman, Yuki Nagato, Kanade Tachibana, Ruri Gokou, Yukino Yukinoshita, Inori Yuzuriha, C.C. , Shiro (No Game No Life) ...
I feel like I need to watch more anime to understand and know more about kuudere. I also want to know more about Hitagi Senjougahara >< (havent watched Bakemonogatari).
Btw, do you agree with this definition of kuudere? XD

Watched 2 episodes of "Shinmai Maou no Testament" & I think, Yuki's a Kuudere.
If she's a Kuudere, then sure, I like her.
Sorry OP, I don't have any valuable info for ya :P
DoctorSexy said: im not sure if this counts i would say yami from to love ru
Nah, she's a Tsundere (Has some bits of Kuudere feelings attached to her).
She isn't a tsundere.
So, is this the correct definition for Mayadere?
"The Mayadere (まやデレ) type refers to a character who is often a dangerous antagonist of a series, but switches sides after falling in love with another character. The character may remain deadly and unpredictable for the protagonist or other main character in the Anime or Manga."
If so, then I agree with ya :D
I do indeed like kuuderes, because they dont have enough of a personality to annoy me. And i mean that in a good way.
I dont understand people obession with tsunderes. How can you like someone who acts like your the worst thing on the planet and will get violent towards you at the drop of a hat. Do some people feel that is an attractive trait?
They are basically bi polar.
Nagirah said: *sees title* Mashiro that bastard, how dare she get in the best girl's way? Comes out of nowhere and steals her man, how rude.
Personally kuuderes are like any other dere trope to me. Since they are a trope they got a huge risk of becoming a bland copy of every other kuudere character out there thus making most of them pretty dislikeable or 'meh' to me. There are always exceptions though.
What do you think of kuudere? It has Hitagi Senjougahara as an example, doesn't have to be bad.
What do you like about kuudere? Hitagi Senjouhagara.
What do you dislike about kuudere? Anyone not named Hitagi Senjougahara.
Optional Question:
What makes a good kuudere? If is like Gahara-san, it's 10/10. Rest depends of execution.
Your favourite kuudere? Hmmm... Hitagi Senjougahara?
Example of male kuudere? A genderbended Hitagi Senjougahara Ulquiorra Cifer may count, I think.

Q. Do Sorata and Mashiro kiss?
A. Mate, they do more than kiss.
Sorata was no longer the ignorant boy he had once been. He felt the atmosphere keenly, and it told him what he wanted to know.
The timing was now.
Gingerly, he placed his hands on Mashiro’s shoulders. She trembled in reaction. And then, without any hesitation, he bent over slightly and kissed her. As their lips met again and again, they collapsed on the bed, where their fall was broken by the mountain of clothes swathed all over the sheets.
Resting on her back, Mashiro gazed up at Sorata with misty eyes. Their hearts were each thumping with the same frantic beat.
Mashiro was beautiful, Sorata thought, so irresistibly cute and loving. He wanted to hold her in his arms and possess her.
“Mashiro…”
“… Yes.”
Q. So… they do it?
A. It is strongly implied at the end of volume 9.
There is also a “morning after” conversation which they have in the beginning of volume 10:
“It’s cold,” Mashiro mumbled drowsily in complaint.
“That’s ‘cos you were sleeping without any clothes on.”
Intending to wake her up, Sorata pushed Mashiro’s forehead away from where it rested against his body.
“Nrgh…” At last, Mashiro opened her eyes. She looked at Sorata, blinking in surprise. “It’s cold.”
Unfortunately, waking her up did not progress the conversation. Once again, Mashiro cuddled up against Sorata’s body.
“P-Put some pajamas on already! Why are you butt naked anywho?!”
“It’s your fault.” Her condemning eyes seemed to look right through him.
“Oh really now. Let’s hear your reasoning.”
“You took my clothes off.”
“Urk! Ahem!” he spluttered.
“Do you have a cold?”
“No! It’s because you said something weird!”
“It was the truth.”
“W-Well, that may indeed be the case, but I clearly told you to put pajamas on before you slept, remember?!”
“I do.”
“Let’s go over this again, why are you naked?”
“I couldn’t find my panties.”
“Oh? Hm, isn’t it somewhere around there…?”
“You took my panties off.”
“Oh, right! I’m the last one who touched them!”

Love Kuudere.
The way they occasionally show emotions.
Maybe I dislike their lack of expressing their shyness, maybe. I can't think of anything else, even a favourite kuudere (Shiro from No game No life)

I do think that this is a pretty good definition on what a Kuudere is however I've always considered Mashiro to be closer to a Dandere than that of a Kuudere, especially in regards to the lack of cynicism, bluntness and "intent" of being cool like characters such as C.C from Code Geass or Ami from Toradora portray with their actions. While a good portion of her actions aren't of shyness but instead from a lack of interest in her surroundings (which is what I think may be getting misconstrued as the "cynicism/bluntness" of a Kuudere), her character later develops shyness with her feelings towards Sorata.
A good example would be the handholding scene on the roof top of the school for Valentines
It's somewhat an ambiguous case like Yuki Nagato I suppose, and there is also a problem with how the terms Kuudere and Dandere lack clear distinctions.

Given this definition, I think Homura Akemi from Puella Magi Madoka Magica is my favorite Kuudere.
I'm not interested in ordinary humans, but if any of you are aliens, time travellers or ESPers, please come see me!
Well Rei Ayanami is my like Waifu for Lifeu so that should answer that.
Also Senjoughara is a competitor, a good one.
Also I hope when you say you haven't watched Bakemonogatari, you don't think thats the only part of it because there's alot more Monogatari after that.

The appeal of the tsundere is that they are harsh at first, but it's usually for a reason. Over time, once you earn their trust, they'll show their warmer side :)
Good examples are Taiga from Toradora and Inuyasha from Inuyasha. Unfortunately though, Anime is littered with bad tsunderes that I and many others do not like, so I do understand why it is you don't like em :/
On topic, I like kuuderes when done right, as in they have a reason to be that way, I guess. When done wrong, they can be kinda boring though, I guess.
My favourite kuudere is Kanade Tachibana because I understood why she behaved the way she did, why she was generally cold to everyone. It made sense, and when she did start hanging out with everyone, she had fun :)

Regardless good taste OP.
Ahh I see. I never thought of Mashiro as dandere bcoz she always wear a blank expression and speak in a dull manner xD. But now you said that, I'm pretty confused with those terms.
I was wondering if it's possible for her to be both kuudere and dandere

Do you feel salty ?
Don't worry you can tell me ...............
Yea, just a little salty. Just an itsy bit.
You should be actually drowned in salt if you have read/known abt the LN's I guess you haven't then.
What do you think of kuudere?
- In general I'm not too fond of them since they tend to be quiet and boring characters. Your two examples are fine though because they are very funny :3
What do you like about kuudere?
- The funny situations they can bring, like Shiina with her odd understanding of the world ^^
What do you dislike about kuudere?
- Silence = boring
What makes a good kuudere?
- Funny personality, has to talk a bit more than your generic kuudere
Kuuderes are probably my favorite "dere" because they're not putting on an act like most other "deres" do. They're cold and blunt (which can be very funny) and only open up once they become comfortable with someone. Homura from Madoka Magica, Flamie from Rokka, Rei from Evangelion, and Yuki from Haruhi are all great examples.
As for a male, I would guess Levi from Attack and Titan and maybe Kuritsigu from Fate/Zero.

I wouldn't say the other deres are putting on an "act", per se, they just have trouble expressing their emotions, usually due to past experiences and their upbringing in general.
I see what you are trying to say though. Kuuderes are probably one of the deres we consider more "normal" than the rest.

This takes all the effort out of me having to sum it all up.
Ahhh... Is this the blood... The blood of the Dark Soul?
I really like kuuderes more than most archetypes, and since I consider Gahara as being her own little archetype called "Tsundora", I'd say my favorite kuudere would be Yukino from Oregairu.
I just love seeing kuuderes have their walls shattered, thereby getting to know their dere side.
So long as they have a reason for their deadpan attitude, then they can work. Shiina's reason is implied to be savant syndrome, and the anime wouldn't be the same if she wasn't a kuudere. I like her, at least.
This might be my favorite character type for waifu material. I don't like Tsunderes, since i'm not into verbal and physical abuse. Yandere's are just psychopaths. Kuudere or Dandere is more my type.
