Discuss composers whose work appears in the series, request identification of certain pieces excerpted in the anime (of course, keep in mind that a twenty-second excerpt of an hour-long symphony might be difficult to identify), request/discuss OP/ED songs, discuss why Mahler is the best, find ways to flood the MAL database with more dead Europeans, and have a good time in general.

To begin, here are some interesting charts (courtesy of kuzzzma) with visual statistical representation of the number of excerpted pieces by each composer that appear throughout the soundtrack collection.

This first chart displays the composer, place, and number of tracks on each the FPA and Galactic Empire sides, as well as cumulative total.
Note: The cyrillic reads 'Dmitri Shostakovich'.

This second chart shows the distribution of each composer among the FPA and Galactic Empire sides by percentage and pretty colours:
Note: The cyrillic still reads 'Dmitri Shostakovich'.

Notably, Mahler is still best.

Mozart suddenly is a totalitarian? But his drunk misdemeanor and sloppy life really should have placed him firmly in the FPA camp. He's pretty much Yang's lost brother. Lost by timewarp, presumably. Those suckers are devious.

I suppose music doesn't at all express the TRVE SOUL of the composer, then.

At least Wagner is firmly on the side of the fascists, as he should be, the lovable git.

Music thread! I like this.

These charts are very interesting, I had no idea they used so many songs in the series, and a good variety of composers too.

Does anyone know how the soundtracks are for the other titles of the series? Or these charts already include the music relation for everything?

I'm still partial to Dvorak though. The ninth is fabulicious.

When it comes to the original tracks, the Empire theme song (Valkyrie something) and the orchestral version of Hikari no Hashi wo Koete were also splendid.

Ride of the Valkyries (Wagner)? Or some other act from "Die Walkure"?

I guess from all OPs and EDs Hikari no Hashi wo Koete is my favorite. And the orchestral version is simply beautiful.

As for me, I'd be satisfied with hearing New World Symphony throughout whole series ;p Unfortunately, they played it in only one episode ><

Well, if you think about it, it makes sense. He worked for the Hapsburgers/Austrian Aristocracy for most of his life and it isn't all that hard to lay the comparison between Franz Joseph and and Friedrich IV ; )

As for Mahler; not my favorite, but certainly very good in regards of the soundtrack. I do miss a bit of Holst though.

Parts of the New World Symphony were all over the place in LoGH, as I recall... heck, they played the whole final movement of the piece in the second movie!

On an unrelated note, this may be a long, long shot... but does anyone have the full versions of the 3rd and 4th EDs from the series proper? Those were both great songs that I would love to hear in their entirety.

Oh, I see. My first thought was Ride of The Valkyries (I blame childhood on this). Thanks for the info.

All OPs and EDs, but all TV size, so not the full length songs unfortunately.

It's the second movement of Beethoven's Seventh Symphony, if you mean the one that begins here:

There are three kinds of intelligence: one kind understands things for itself, the other appreciates what others can understand, the third understands neither for itself nor through others. This first kind is excellent, the second good, and the third kind useless.

Look for Legend of the Galactic Heroes on torrent sites, there's a 50/50 chance you'll find an OSTs torrent that is somewhat around 2 GB.

Is it just me, or is the OST torrent tracker down again? It seems like it's not been working lately (even more than usual). I'd like to seed it again...

More on topic, I like Disk 9 (Annerose) of the Empire side lately. Anybody remember where Ravel's Bolero was in the series? I can't remember it at all...

I know those charts aren't comprehensive, but surely the first and second movements of Rachmaninoff's Concerto No. 3 in D minor are notable enough to place him on the list. I'm partial to this piano concerto, so of course I feel compelled to mention it. =P

Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata and Pathetique Sonata were divinely directed to be in some of Reinhard's final scenes. Positively superb scoring throughout.

Many of the OP/EDs were excellent as well. Yoshi Ogura was fantastic for the endings and OP3 by Lisa was beautiful. I'm going to be listening to this soundtrack a lot in the following weeks.

Bethoven also has some works in LOGH, I think between eps 30 and 50.
I don't remember the name of the symphony (shame) but it's the same used in the Dragon Half ending. . .

There's only two versions: Original and orchestral. In the orchestral version, Kei is replaced with a trumpet solo.

Hey guys,
Is there any chance any of you knows bout a youtube video that shows all the soundtrack of the anime?
And if possible, the soundtrack correlated to the scenes directly?
