| To be honest, if I find a show that is generally poorly received, I feel disheartened when it comes to watching it, but will check it out anyway if it seems like it has an interesting premise. Back when Prison School was an obscure manga with 15 chapters released, it had a pretty weak score on mangaupdates, but the tags on it interested me enough to check it out. It has been nearly 4 years of following that series now and it is in my top 25 favourites. |

| When it comes to anime, yes...some things are just fact, not opinion. Is the animation good? Is the art good? Does the plot make sense? Manga is different (might just be for me). I've always enjoyed reading yet haven't been able to focus on anime since I can't focus on television shows in general. Manga is perfect for me and I find that what I may like may be ill-favored by others. However, I'm not saying that manga is more important that anime, I guess I'm just a lot less picky with what I read. Tl;dr, I'm weary of anime with lower scores and may only give it an episode or so before dropping but will still watch it. |

| It gives you a idea of the general recepción of a series, so if the fanbase it's big it can help you. Now with series with less than let's say 1000 users it's more irrelevant |

| MAL users rate everything too high, so rating is useful to know when a serie is complete garbage (its rating is below 6). But it doesn't work when you want to know if a serie is good. |

| The higher a anime is rated, the greater the chances of you liking it and vice versa. Rating shouldn't be taken literally. Also this ^ applies to people with a wide Taste in anime and also isn't a person that's too picky. |
| Anything below a 6 makes me hesitate to watch it, 7s i expect i'll enjoy and 8-10 i know i'll absolutely love. I try to not read into the ratings to much as i find there are very few shows that i just plain can't enjoy/get into, i try to use my own judgment for every show rather than getting a pre-acquisition of it before hand. |

| I do factor in score a little bit when deciding on an anime. I view the average score as a way of indicating my likelihood of liking an anime. For instance, if an anime has a 9.00 average, that means the average person liked it, so I see it as "Hmmm, a lot of people like this, maybe I'll give it a shot." On the other hand, if an anime has a 7.00 average (which is actually pretty low by MAL standards) then I usually approach the anime with a more, "Hmmm, a 7.00 average is low by MAL standards, I better proceed with caution." Of course just because the average viewer may like an anime doesn't mean I'll like it. Your Lie in April has like a 8.9 and I honestly felt the show was a 5. There are some other highly rated anime I didn't enjoy as much as the average watcher. Usually I agree with lower average scores though. I wouldn't say I'm a critic, but most of the anime I have seen falls in the 5-7 range. In conclusion, I use it as a gauge for deciding the likelihood of me enjoying the anime, but only slightly. |

| Just ignore the score, you'll find out pretty quickly why it was low if it was, and you may be inclined to drop at that point. Other than that, plenty of people have differing tastes to the majority, and this is not always consistent with any one person, so there's no guarantee that you'll dislike the anime just because lots of people rate it low. |

| MAL's score system is pretty off. 7.5 is about average here I think. Ignore the score I'd say, it's a worse indication of a show than just reading the genre tags or synopsis. Best is to get recommendations from someone you trust. |
