I can speak English, understand parts of Spanish, MAYBE hold a conversation in Tagalog, and probably bluff my way through Japanese. And by bluff I mean call them a asshole and start a fight. That's all I got.

English is native tongue, I spoke German fluently when I was 5/6 and I'm relearning it now that I live in Germany. I want to learn either Russian or Japanese once I get German down.

I had a few years of Spanish classes and did fairly well, but unfortunately I didn't have much chance to use it and so I don't think I'm very good at it anymore. I know bits of some other languages and have worked towards learning others but I haven't gotten very far. I'd like the structure of a class, preferably in person, but the main languages that I'd want to learn aren't available in my area.

REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

There's a lady who's sure

And she's buying a stairway to heaven
When she gets there she knows
If the stores are all closed
With a word she can get what she came for
Oh oh oh oh and she's buying a stairway to heaven

My native language is french but I speak english on a daily basis so I make do relatively well. I also understand a bit of gaelic because of my dad.

I'd especially like to learn Mandarin, German and Italian sometime in the future.

German, English and Polish

aside from that I'd be able to recognise if someone speaks Japanese, but I probably wouldn't understand any of it aside from a few certain phrases.

Also a little bit of Latin if that counts.

Not as much as I'd like to, nowhere NEAR fluent enough in them but here are a couple I know basic phrases in and also can sing in.

English (Native, UK)

Dutch (Flemish... SORTA... but mostly dutch)
German
French
Russian

Nowhere near fluent to give accurate translations though. I either just know simple phrases to get by or songs and swear words. I learn most from picking up some vocab from friends, focussing on dutch right now though so I expect to get better at that one.

I am envious how so many of the Europeans get to be able to speak two or like four languages. I guess they get exposed to more languages and they have it taught in schools more. In the US they do not really teach anything other than spanish and even then its not really standard so they do not actually teach it everywhere so I never learned another language early. I never even heard another language spoken till I was like 12.

Is there any method to properly teach yourself? All I've been doing so far is using Duolingo which has been good but it also gets a bit repetitive to do the same thing all the time.

I'm fluent in german because I am a native speaker. Other than that I would call myself fluent in english. And I understand about 80% of the korean every day language. Not when it comes to extremely specific things but I do understand a lot and I can speak it pretty well. I also know a bit of french. I used to be really good at it but because I haven't been speaking it at all in recent years I've forgotten a lot.

I am happily suprised at the amount of people speaking french as a secondary language, even if not a lot ^^. I am franco-spanish myself and can speak french fluently, but not spanish, mainly due to the fact that i always lived in France but you know, I can use basic language, ranging up to past tenses. Steping forward, as you may have noticed I can speak english pretty correclty, having Cambridge diplomas and stuff. Going further away, I know around the same amount of german as spanish, maybe more; I can read greek and cyrillic, I don't understand what it means though (unless it's words close enough to languages I speak). And ultimately I learned a bit of japanese through my anime experience :). I think that's all.

Yes actually, in my school, we had four compulsory languages... (French, English, 2nd foreign language, 3rd foreign language).
Adding a lil' anecdote here :): I once confused myself and answered "hai" instead of "si" in a spanish class.
Please excuse any mistakes, they may be caused by the automatic orthographic corrector of my phone which is set for french, because I'm writting this from my phone.

I have an interest in learning Italian and might start studying Latin next year in my free-time, too. It helps on the SATs, I heard, so I'll definitely look into it.

Since Koe no Katachi has a very high rating her on MAL, rated by nearly 100k users currently should we try to upvote the movie on the worlds largest database related to films? This movie only has around 4,5k votes at the moment. Let's all vote and make the rating higher?

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt5323662/

if we make it more popular it will raise more money so it will support the anime industry and make anime more popular between all the peoples since IMDb is not an anime site
so more quality anime will be made
