So simply put, this decade has been dominated by terrorism.
I guess it is.

Wow, what a world we live in.

I was actually never scared of terrorism. Only times I ever thought about it was when I was on a plain. Probably because I was only in middle school when 9/11 happened. It seems the event effected adults more than kids.

That would be considered a new decade...

Anyways! Let's see, what did i honestly like about this decade?

9/11? Bush for President Twice? Arnold Schwarzenegger for Governor?
Hip-Hop going completely down the drain? Britney Spears going crazy?
THE "WAR AGAINST TERROR"? THE PATRIOT ACT?
THE TSUNAMI IN THE THE SOUTHEAST? HURRICANE KATRINA?
MICHAEL JACKSON'S DEAD? HEATH LEDGER'S DEAD?
OBAMA WINNING THE NOBEL PRIZE? THE ECONOMIC COLLAPSE?

Hmm... well, Al Gore won the Nobel Peace Prize? Haha, that's one thing..... Stem Cell Research?
What isn't red? What isn't blue?

Obama awarded a peace prize for not doing anything worthy of it.
Hurricane Katrina ravaged New Orleans
Economy almost kicked the bucket
Housing market OD'ed
a lot of celebrities died.
First black man in the White House (not that there's anything wrong with that, mind you)

Funny (or not) how you mentioned the terrible hurricane Katrina, but not the much more devastating tsuname (and earthquake) in the southeastern asia, yeah the one that killed thousands of people and changed the shape of indonesia.

Come to think of it, I think no one mentioned that yet. I know, celebreties and the happenings and whatnot in the states are the important stuff.

I remember so bitch in the 5th grade stole my sandwhich and ate it like a hoe ><

Also, I remember 9/11 (barely, I was in the 4th grade and really didn't know wtf was going on. All I knew was that a plane hit two buildings and as a 4th grader, I actually found it to be cool because I wasn't aware of what that actually meant at the time :\....)

I also remember new about some guy having sex with a picnic table multipul times, then taking it home and doing it more, then taking it back to the park he found it, while some one recorded all of it with out the guy knowing.

OO, 14 squirrels that got arrested for espionage. That was some hardcore stuff too.

I also remember how awesome my freshman year was, and how it all sucked afterwards.

Fun, fun times if I do say so myself.

Yet the US and the UK have the best universities in the world. Not going to argue that most Americans are not, though.

Yeah, I think 'terrorism' pretty much defines this decade for a lot of people.

Terrorism (9-11, the Madrid bombings of 2004, the London subway bombings), horrific natural disasters (the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, Hurricane Katrina), the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and the conflict in Darfur. Also, this was on a much smaller scale than the events listed above, but the Beltway sniper attacks. Those three weeks were friggin' scary.

Computer took a surge, affecting every aspects of human life
Internet giants &
Software giants,
Hardwares giants , CPU went multicore
Supercomputer is now nearly a million time faster than CPUs of the 80s.

Net 2.0
3G Phones

PS2,PS3,
Nintendo's Wii ! (watch this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MkD-91ysQ6A)
MS's X360 joining the game party (The Idolm@ster ! lol )
Augmented Reality will probably affect the future gaming (Go watch Dennou coil)

The P2P and the decline of media industry.

Nanotech stepping in to various fields.

Rover landed on Mars.
China actively joining the space race.

The human genome project completion, and some other species too?
Bio-food having more roles
Stem cell research offer more hope for certain diseases.

The elderly population continues to expand in many developed countries.
Healthcare burden is likely to continue to expand for many countries, not only the US.

SARS, bird flu, swine flu - we saw improvements in epidemics & pandemics prevention strategy, even though the risk is still there.

Globalization further developed.

The environment:
Global warming, weather changes becoming center of conern for human future
Greenhouse gas emission is still the center of debate.
Gas emission protocol continue to become a part of economic strategy
There was also the climategate, reminding us science + politics are bad partners and don't try to explain any climate change with global warming.

Oil crisis re-sparkled new tech researches.
Environmental tech becoming the next decade's focus of research too

Disasters has been mentioned. Tsunami, Katrina and Sichuan Earthquake

The Rise of China or actually the BRIC.
China became the biggest owner of US's public debt owner, surpassing Japan.

Olympics had finally held in the country of biggest population.
And it's massive food scandal happened in the same year unfortunately.

The decline of US mentioned
With terrorisms continue, 911 hit US history, followed by anti-terorrist war and the invasion of Iraq. - 2 wars, different natures.
An iraqi threw shoes at US president! Don't dodge!

The first US black president appeared, but facing a lot of problems left behind from previous one. More female working in important positions in the white house.

Iran, North Korea - nuclear weapon threats

Economic crisis
Bubbles happened more than once during the decade.
And the heaviest blow started near the end of 2008, bankrupting a number of firms and banks of long history.
Iceland bankrupcy

Chinese cities have become the new center of bubble.
Look at the Asian big cities like Shanghai & Hongkong
$$$ are going to these cities with record amounts after the recession started.

North Korea issued new currencies but tightly capped the amount of exchange from old to new.

Zimbabwe economic crisis - Z$100 trillion banknote! It's not a game...

Ahh yeah time ran fast...btw, there was another cyclone in 2008, hitting mainly Laos, same period with the Sichuan Earthquake, and killing 130k people...
But Lao's door was tightly shut due to military interference so there was a scarcity of news. Sometimes I kind of mix it up with the tsunami.

@TsukikageRan
news and anime are both interesting to me :)
reality & news are often more "exciting" , tearjerking or whatever

We should call this decade "2k". Think about it people, if we start calling it "the 0's" what are we going to to when we hit 2020, 2030, 2040, 2050 etc? We just can't call those decades "the 20's" "the 30's" "the 40's" etc. we already gave the term to those decades of the 1900's, just think of the confusion it might bring. If we go by "2k" then the later decades can be....

2010 = "2.1k"
2020 = "2.2k"
2030 = "2.3k"
etc.

Sounds futuristic at the same time too, and isn't what this past decade all about? Progressing towards the future? (Technology-wise anyways, progressing forward at the fast rate its been going.)

Meh, just a crazy thought I had, I really think the idea could work though.

Anywho, its hard to believe this decade is almost over, can't wait for the next one, I personally didn't like this decade. Other than the great advancements in technology and finally having an African American president in the office, just about almost everything else about this decade sucked. 9/11, the pointless "war on terror", the natural disasters, the recession, mainstream American music these past years (its mostly garbage), the Twilight series, etc. Being born in '89, that means i've only lived for 2 decades. After living during this decade, I just makes me miss the 90's. I want the 90's back!

*sigh* Ah well, even the 90's had its flaws too, but I'm still ready to say good riddance to 2000-2009 and welcome 2010, with hope that it will be better.
