Because we spent hours in the internet arguing how great or bad an anime really is.
But it's important to remember that a movie review is subjective;it only gives you one person's opinion.

It doesn't matter if you like LoGH,Monster etc.If you are a jobless or college/school dropout living in your mom basement, you are still an unintelligent loser. Taste in anime does not make you a better person. If elitist don't exist, casual pleb and shit taste also don't exist.

Not a bad way to spend your time, don't you think?
You could be getting drunk, then getting into fights and end up spending a month in a hospital, but here you are, nice and safe, maybe your fingers are a bit tired from all the typing, and your eyes from all the reading.

I hope you all realize this shit is happening because of how most anime fans behave.
When ppl spot atleast 1 faggot of a certain type group of people, they automatically feel the urge to judge the whole group the same way.
In other words, judge people based on how they act, not on what they like.
If you dont want to be bullied because you watch anime, the best thing you can do is to not act like a fking fag/pussy

No hard feelings.

This is pretty much true. Just look at some of the threads on here over the past few days and the things people come out with and the shows they go on about. It should hardly come as a surprise that most people outside, look in and judge negatively. The sad thing is, we all get tarred with the same brush.

No thanks. Arguing about Chinese cartoons, that totally lifeless.

Yep these lecherous virgins and their Fate/Zero, Cowboy Bebop, and FMA need to seriously just go get a life. Or just watch SAO, AgK, and NGNL instead to learn how to be normal.

i think you meant attack on titan.

even my mother knows about attack on titan, most likely my father too and pretty much anyone else i know, it's probably the most known anime outside of those that have been translated in every language like naruto and dragonball. thus, it automatically become the most "for normal people" anime out there.

Posts like these are dead giveaways. You can't blame people for thinking that.

https://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=92940&show=0

2D is definately superior, something halfrandomly generated can never match something that is created to appeal. Though this also is a matter of what you want them for.

For conversations 3D is definately better since you can't really discuss with a 2D but for eyecandy and entertainment 2D is far above, I've never had intrest in relationships, discussions have never been my bag of beans either. I'm of course considering this is about people, when it comes to places 3D is above but 2D characters are generally far superior, there are tons of goods characters where there are only a few intresting people.

I guess I've also just gotten too tired of having to watch my doings and sayings around people since there always seem to be some prissy asshole who takes offense in all the slightest things. Which is why I just rather watch the interactions of fictional characters.

In short, 2D for life! Those who disagree with me can go whack themselves in the head with a hammer. I'd do it myself but I can't be buggered to get up my fat arse for the effort needed to do this.

Here's a tip. It doesn't matter what people think. Be yourself and enjoy what you enjoy, don't try to fight back even if someone is insulting something that you like. Also, you would be surprised. People get made fun of for anything that they do except sports because apparently if you don't play 20 sports your gay and have no life. Whoa okay i went on a bit of a rant

maybe because non-anime fans only have seen one or two ecchi scenes and they assumed that every anime is like that.So based on their logic,if all animes are ecchi and you like anime that instantly means you like ecchi and ,in their eyes, you're a perv~

too bad they don't know that anime isn't just that...

Wow, I wish more people around here thought that way. A lot of times, when someone insults a show (not you.... a fucking show), they don't even mean any harm. Usually the harm comes after people start acting like an idiot rather than casually talking to them.

I am one so I see no lies there man. And all those cases when I have witnessed some weeb trying to talk to your average joe about anime have always been painful and embarrassing.

Cultural thing. If we talk about western world older generations will mostly think it's weird for an adult liking cartoons. Younger generations probably have seen something regarding anime (we had a goddamn page about manga in two of our school books in junior high) so they have some image in their head already what it is and base their opinion of other person's hobby with that.

Now as for Japan they already thought manga/anime will ruin their kids and liked to blame it for problems in their society. If my memory works I think there was cases of burning manga volumes in the 50's. And then there's otaku culture.

There are a certain amount of anime fans who openly advertise themselves as perverts while most of the others hide their hobby under a rug. That could have something to do with it.

As for the no life, that's just how people treat everyone with a passionate hobby. Because 'having a life' to them means 'dedicating everything to working and fucking and nothing else matters'. If you spend a lot of time on activities unrelated to either of them you must obviously be lacking something.
I probably regret this post by now.

Also it's a fact that anime fans get 'blamed' for hentai when in reality a big chunk of hentai consumers are not actually anime fans. There's this example from the 90s when anime fandom in britain was estimated to be a few hundred people but Urotsukidouji sold something like 60,000 copies. Hentai became popular and entered the mainstream conscience not because of anime fans, but because of normal people who were into porn, animated or not. It's not that different today. There's tons of hentai stuff on every normal porn streaming site and I'd guess it's mostly normies who watch those because anime fans don't go to youporn to watch hentai.
I probably regret this post by now.

Normies easily dismiss and stereotype any subculture. The more the members deviate in looks, behavior and habits, the more ostracized they get. Take metalheads for example - if someone who is a mindless wage slave, without any hobby or interest in their life, sees someone who is basically an antithesis of properness in their eyes, they will probably label them as filth on a conscious level, regardless of the education and social standing that metalhead may actually have. It's the same as anime, if you are open, or even forceful about your interest, there will be those people that consider you to be a deviant, because it's not the type of interest that is regarded as part of the predominant culture. It's shallow, but being judged superficially and/or based on appearance isn't anything new and tied exclusively to any particular subculture.

I wouldn't say metalheads are the antithesis, but metalheads are passionate about something.

Many people I know aren't. No, really, they spend a lot of time just scrolling the internet. Being a metalhead means being passionate about something other than the evening news.

It's as you say, the average person sees passion towards something "unneeded" as perverse. They can engage in various interests, be it gaming, reading, watching movies etc. on a superficial level, merely to pass the time. Any more interest than that, and it becomes weird, as it's not something they would waste THEIR time on.

I find that this passion is exactly the difference between 'nerds' and other people. Go to a convention, and people really really care about anime or role-playing games or Sci-Fi. Go to a university and the lecturer is really, really into studying the liver. Most people aren't that passionate and it looks weird to them.

But I'd take studying the liver over anything on the news.

Could be attributed to a couple of things.

Maybe could be because of the old stigmas surrounding the anime boom of the 1990's and how the Japanese video gaming market was a factor in that happening. Video games hadn't yet reached the mainstream and there was the notion that they were for nerds and fat losers who didn't have any girlfriends or a life. Because the anime boom in the West was a direct extension to that I guess the notion followed with it, and amongst some older and more ignorant parts of society it stuck.

Could be due to the rise of ecchi and moe genres in anime in popularity and, well, literal quantity. Which of course leads to more of certain merchandise. It's mostly likely due to the community popularising the concepts of waifus and fan fiction that anime is perceived to be too sexuallised by some people, and that you're perverted if you partake in such interests.

Either that or they're just misguided morons, I dunno

I saw several of them imo. I think the biggest problem is people seeing the perverted fatass with a waifu body pillow or something and that's the image that get stuck in people's head, forgetting all the other cosplayers and gamers and stuff who seems to be having a lot of fun.
