I often find the opening as a way to set the mood for what's to come whereas the ending is background noise (usually) as I set up for the next episode + a few posts. Recently watched Jormungand and Perfect Order's OP always had my eyes glued to it to hype up for the episode. The ed was sort of that 90 second break to switch gears.

The only ending worth watching is Monster's first ED.
Anyone who watches both OPs and EDs on every episode is a time waster and should get better at watching anime.

Doesn't matter to me. I skip them all after watching once.

Kind of.
Well, the first thing that you always see and notice at the first episode of an anime is the OP. So, it is important in attracting fans.

Plus, I rarely watch ED.. -_-

To me anyway I don't view either one as being more important, or even important really. If I like them, great. If I don't but I still like the show, I don't really care. A good opening/ending are bonuses.

they're equal for me, since i just let the ending theme play out anyway. i have my media player set to just start the next file within the folder anyway, so why not listen to both the op and the ed?

For me the ending song is almost always never as good as the opening plus a lot of ending animations are static which kind of puts me of watching/listening even though the end song may be good.

The opening, I skip EDs most of the time.
It's important for the ED to fit the anime though, otherwise it's awkward (Clannad AS).

I personally watch both, so it might not make much of a difference for me, but if it's not a marathon, as soon as you start watching, something impactful will probably help the viewing experience while as soon as the ending song starts (if we ignore the preview, which may not even be there to begin with, though), you're aware that the episode is nearing its end and not as excited anymore, so there may be more effort put in the production and such. There are some people who skip the opening, but it's easier to skip the ending than the opening. And of course for TV and other live watchers, they're probably less likely to skip the OP than the ED, unless they end up slightly missing the beginning or something... In other words, if one is more important, it's probably the OP.

Although it depends on the anime, I believe openings are usually more important.

The opening is important. It's the first impression you will get from the anime, and it should draw viewers in

Opening is important the first time it is played, usually the first epispde.

Endings are rarely important, unless it's the last episode. On the last episode I usually listen to the ending on a song, it is after all the last time I will watch the series (since I don't rewatch series). For example, the kind of impact the ending of Angel Beats had on me on the last episode was great enough to make me cry harder than the episode itself.

Been a long time since I've been here, I'll continue expressing myself freely and believe everyone should too.

Well, both of them are equally important, or should be, to me. The opening is supposed to get you ready for the episode to come. It could be humorous, deep, motivational, deep or thrilling, depending on the anime. The ending theme is always a little calmer than the opening, being either calm and quiet or just plain cool.
People usually skip the ending theme to get to the next episode, so I think they're a little underrated.

Also, a lot of the time the studio gives the opening more importance, which would be another reason openings seem to have more quality. Needless to say, there are a lot of great anime out there with amazing endings and openings, like FMA:B, Angel Beats, TTGL(Gurren Lagann), Clannad and it's Afterstory, etc.

Both are important.

OP gets you into the anime.

ED leaves you with a lingering feeling about the anime.

Usually, opening is more important; however, in some shows like Gundam SEED, the ending theme starts to play during the final moments of an episode. In that case, the ending is more important. Thankfully, SEED has great ending themes.

I only watch the endings if they're good. More than 75% of the ones I've seen are slow paced. So I'm going to have to go with openings.

I think they are equally important. I like when the opening is slow-paced and you can prepare, get into the mood to watch the episode. As for the ending - something deep, that summarizes the theme or the feelings.
