The crowd always pisses me off, booing Rebecca. If only they knew how tough a life she's led... anyway, for once somehow I was satisfied with this episode. All the other episodes during this arc so far felt like they were only a quarter of an episode. This one feels like it's a full episode. I'm expecting great things from the Dressrosa Arc. :)

It was great that they added the filler fight to the Law vs Doflamingo fight instead of completely off screening it like in the manga. But still felt pretty slow paced and Colosseum fodder isn't very exciting to watch.

Fuck it. Every signature I upload ends up removed anyways.

the anime is kind of slow paced, but considering how close to the last published chapters of the manga it is i find it normal. i quite enjoyed this episode, tbh. i love bartolomeo, i hope he'll become part of the crew honestly XD it would be so endearing! Rebecca's fight was quite boring in itself (from the manga, i mean), so i can't complain about it. there's a part of the manga that i can't wait to reach, and we are close to it so i'm already getting excited fjreokttgjtrkglòd sobs

actually, in the manga you don't see them fight at all. you could see them fight a bit here, so it's already an improvement XD

Good episode. I really want to know what happened with Law and Doflamingo. Bartolomeo was great as ever. Rebecca is pretty cool as well but I wished there was less filler of her fighting fodder. Still a 5/5

Nice episode,it was enjoyable albeit it was really slow-paced.
Rebecca seems like a nice character,but I'd be happier if they skipped most of the fodder fights.

Yep, it felt like that

Even though this episode was filled with unnecessary fillers ( okay, all fillers are unnecessary) I actually liked it.

At some point they really did a god job with animation and soundtracks ( old ones which I've not heard for a long time), but aside from that, this was just a "Come oooooon Toeeei" episode

Hope that they really are waiting for epic moments of the arc to star producing better pacing, animation, drawings

This was an okay episode, I liked it though. The first 10 or so minutes were decent. The rest was alright. Bartolomeo is hilarious, he really made me laugh this episode lol. I love Rebecca, she's an underdog being hated on by everyone plus she has huge watermelons lol. The animation this episode was atrocious. I liked this ep but I honestly have to rate it a 3/5. The OP anime is too slow.

I kind of agree with that. She may be a looker but she's not that interesting and she's not wacky enough to fit with the Strawhats that seem to be a group of weird strange guys. Besides we already have Nami and Robin as the slightly more normal and sexy part of the group and Nami has similar abuse story and more wacky character(her money obsession etc). She will overlap a little there. I think the one that fits perfectly is Bartolomeo. I mean the dude is powerful so he can be the serious reinforcement the crew needs in the new world, he has the craziness to fit right there with all the other silly guys and his fanboy character doesn't overlap with others at all.

Long post so I’m organizing it in spoiler tags.

The first scene was interesting. Doflamingo told Law that he knew what kind of family they were after asking about Giolla. Giolla who said she would die for Doflamingo was set free. Despite Doflamingo showing signs of caring for his people, e.g. hesitancy when Giolla was taken hostage, regret over Vergo and Monet, killing the assholes who try and manipulate Baby 5, seeming not to punish Buffalo or Baby 5 after failing, we’ve seen that when he has to, he lets his people go. In a way Luffy could never, Doflamingo will ask his allies to die for him. And, to me it felt like it was Doflamingo saying that he was going to come after Law no matter what, aka that Giolla would not be a buffer for this conflict any longer. I feel Doflamingo suggested that this family is one that accepts death as an inevitability. So, with her no longer being of use, I think Law saw that and sent her off. He should know Doflamingo well and quite honestly, I wonder what Doflamingo did for all his people, at least his executives all feel in debt to him, like they respect him. Did he gather them like Luffy gathered his own crew, helping each when they needed it?

Other than that, it showed Law’s hand with clarity. This is literally a suicide mission, Law wants to kill Doflamingo even if it means his own death and he is simply keeping Doflamingo busy so that Caesar gets away and the factory gets destroyed. This is not due to a 13 year grudge in Law’s words, rather this is what he’s lived for, this is his meaning, that is; he is trying to fulfil someone’s “long cherished ambition”. Someone I can only assume met a poor fate at the hands of Doflamingo, otherwise that man would be fulfilling his dream, it wouldn’t be passed on to Law or so I think. Doflamingo did interpret it as a grudge after all, something that Law would have held through being wronged. I wonder if this is linked to that time Vergo beat Law in the past. We need more information but in my head I’m already painting a picture. One of Doflamingo killing someone Law looked up to, Law acting out and getting mercilessly beaten by Vergo and then suppressing his feelings so he could grow stronger and get an advantage, and finally after 13 years, getting the strength and position to kill Doflamingo and attain his idols dream.

Something else kind of cool is that, if the Sunny team didn’t beat Giolla then Caesar couldn’t be kept safe, and if Sanji didn’t win Violet’s heart then he couldn’t have saved everyone’s lives. Law was done for and Doflamingo did intend to finish off everyone to prevent this kind of thing from happening. It was due to their unexpected answers to the Don Quixote assassins that we still have Caesar on board and a large portion of our cast isn’t dead. They literally just slipped by, as after killing Law and taking Caesar, if not kept busy, he’d simply go back to Dressrosa and defend the factory himself.

I loved seeing Sanji figure everything out, that Kaido was being used to crush Doflamingo. And interestingly, the Straw Hats have reason to respect Law. He saved Luffy’s life at Marineford, he saved Sanji and the others lives just now. He cured the kids terminal illness. And he helped their raid on Caesar. Plus, we’ve seen how Sanji treats those “under his responsibility”. So, I was wondering if Sanji was going to go back for Law, yet he needs to stay with the Sunny which could be attacked at any moment. Instead, this makes me think the Straw Hats have great reason to go far for Law’s sake and I’m excited to see any bonding moments of Straw Hats saving Law’s butt. It was also cute to see Chopper worry about him, he did dangle off his hat after all.

As Nami showed off her skills protecting everyone by crafting a plan to blow away the clouds and keep Doflamingo away, we got a look into Momonosuke’s experience with Doflamingo. While he, Kin’emon, and Kanjuro landed at Dressrosa and were in hiding they saw Doflamingo’s cruelty first hand. He was drowning a gladiator in front of an audience and making an example out of him. He was doing so because the gladiator wasn’t fighting as he’d want, he was running defensively rather than cutting or being cut. We even heard the mentality that shifted the colosseum under Doflamingo, that is; “Every human has a cruel side and gets excited when they see blood. Blood and death is entertainment!” As evil and somewhat cheesy as it comes off in writing, he has a point. My favorite mangaka Fukumoto described the reason why we, as humans, love watching heinous acts where people’s lives are on the line, be it a school fight, boxing, a fictional survival game, or a bull fight, is because it allows us to feel alive second hand and safely. As for why Doflamingo would say this, I suppose it indicates something going severely wrong in his head. That, or maybe you could call him a realist.

The scene ended by cutting to Violet. She had promised Sanji that she had government connections that would pick her up at the harbor and keep her safe while clearly lying to keep him from worrying. She attacked a monitor which was playing the colosseum as if it was a direct response to Doffy saying all humans have a cruel side- showing she detests such bestiality that Cavendish and Ricky spoke of too. That or perhaps as Rebecca was on screen and she was being insulted, and Violet seems to be the only other Don Quixote traitor and wants to kill him, perhaps she has sympathy for Rebecca, understanding the way Doflamingo took control. In the end she appeared to be traveling to the castle…

Bartolomeo had more of the same, but I still enjoyed it despite how much was repeating. He reminds me of a misbehaving puppy, he may pee on the carpet or attack strangers but when it comes to his owners, the Straw Hats, he is head over heels in love. So yeah basically an audience surrogate. I normally don’t enjoy these characters too much, be it Duval or Hancock; or recently what’s looking to be Chinjao. Strong, forever loyal and gimmicky allies. I say “too much” because I do like them for sure! But, I kinda wish they had more to them. Bartolomeo looks like he was already fighting for Luffy’s sake and would do ANYTHING the crew asks of him without question. Further like the Flying Fish Riders in Sabaody, he has a group under him which means we got more than Chinjao’s navy on Luffy’s side here in Dressrosa. He fits this role that I’ve described as being something that feels slightly lacking. Yet, I love him anyways. I do like his design and voice actor a ton, but I think it’s because of two things. The first being that he isn’t defined by his loyalty or love of the crew, he had a huge introduction of being one of the most lovable, anarchic, punk assholes imaginable and we thought he was against Luffy at this point! Clearly there’s something else going for him and it only enhances his fangirl side. The second is that his love was due to his stanning the Straw Hats since freaking Loguetown rather than something brief and easy like a kick to the face or the noggin. It gives him a real sense of place in the world and it’s a charming touch.

Lastly, the Rebecca scene in the colosseum. We got a flashback showing more of her training with the soldier and we had something crucial clarified to us. Perhaps as another refusal of Doflamingo’s point regarding human’s innate cruelty, Rebecca despises hurting people. She made her entire style based on refusing to cut others. It goes so far that she’s never hurt anyone and despite that she’s undefeated, which honestly makes her trying to kill Luffy quite telling; she’s realized she might have to hurt people this time and do it through shady means. And further, despite it being somewhat confusing that she could make it this far without cutting or killing anyone, Luffy pointed out that she uses observational haki and further, I take it the contestants are normally not that great and the Don Quixote family don’t normally fight themselves. So thus it’s created a clear question, “when is it that Rebecca will have to hurt someone?” As mentioned earlier, she’s prepared herself for having to do such but what will be the cause? It also creates a question of non violence as principle or pragmatism which has created many discussions. I fall into the camp that violence is necessary sometimes and for non violence to work it needs an opportune situation, therefore to refuse resisting violently out of principle when it’s the only path forward ends up feeling unjustifiable to me. Girl, you’re trying to save your toy-dad and take down the man whose enslaving you guys and ruined your life, and you’re in a life or death competition with strong opponents, if there’s any time, it’s now. But, l think she knows that and I respect her, she knows she may have to kill and even then she’s only going to when necessary, so you go Rebecca!

I doubt that Bartolomeo would stay composed enough once Luffy gets in his sights lmao

It was nice to see that despite all that jeering towards Rebecca, the announcer didn't hesitate on complimenting how effective her fighting style is even if it doesn't end up with anyone shedding blood. She'll probably have to slice Rolling Logan this time around if she wants to stay in the game, though.
