What are your opinions on MUV-LUV Alternative? (spoilers obviously)

What would you rank alternative to be with a MAL rating (1/10-10/10)

Hello guys, I've just finished the Muv-Luv Trilogy of visual novels..I'm just curious as to what you thought of them (if you played them), and in paricular your thoughts on Alternative.

I started reading the vns for muv-luv because I saw that Alternative was ranked so high on VNB and had seen many rave 10/10 reviews for it.

I liked Extra more than most people I feel (maybe 7/10 on a MAL scale), and Unlimited was okay (6 or 7/10 on MAL scale).

I would say Alternative gets 9/10. I didn't quite feel like it was a masterpiece, but it did a lot of things really well. It had some really well timed dramatic moments. Maybe the game's (and in general the franchise's) biggest strong suit for me was that I actually felt connected to the characters Takeru interacts with. For the most part I enjoyed the sci fi and time travel elements.

The two things I didn't like about the game is 1) that it could get very bogged down in explanation of different time travel mechanics which could get dry and boring 2) the very slow mostly rehash of the first part of alternative you feel like you are just playing Unlimited over again for a good while.

Spoilers for the ending:

Please feel free to post on my page about the game too, I wasn't sure where to post a topic like this.

Bonus question: Who is your favorite character from the whole franchise? Have any of you watched Rumbling Hearts anime or read the VN? (because there are characters from that game in MLA).

I just finished it this week myself and I rated it 10/10 on vndb.

I absolutely adored Sumika though. There isn't alot I can say about her in Alternative that wouldn't be considered a spoiler.

Extra I rated a 6/10 and Unlimited would be an 8/10 so I rounded it to a 7 on vndb.

It's the only 50-ish hour VN I've ever replayed fully once due to how much I loved it. Guess that's the best way to put it in perspective somewhat. If anything it stands out like hell compared to almost any other VN in design (except for Baldr Sky Dive maybe but that'll never get TL'd probably :/)

Depends on how you mean, I think Yuuko is by far the best written character at least and easily has the most impact on the story, perhaps even more than Takeru himself depending on your perspective. Though if you're just asking the stereotypical "best girl" question then I'd say either Kasumi or Sumika (Meiya is better in her role as the "noble confidant" than as a love interest), but in all honesty Muv-Luv is not about the girls whatsoever. It's about the story, the epic scale and the absurdly high production values.

I watched Kimi ga Nozomu Eien directly after first finishing MLA, and I'd still say it's probably the most tragic soap opera drama fest I've ever seen in anime but it was surprisingly good. Though it will make you think of Hayase and Suzumiya in different ways.

Best story I've read/watched in all medias combined together. I don't really have a favorite character, but I like the 3 main characters equally.

This of course. Except pacing.

I had seen Kimi ga Nozomu Eien a couple of years back and I recognised Akane straight away when I was playing Extra. I had to look it up and then saw it.

When I got onto Alternative after that and saw Mitsuki and Haruka I had to make a double take XD. Total "No way" moment lol.

I agree with you in the regard that Yuuko was arguably the best character, she was exceptionally well written and her VA was perfect for the role.

If I have to order the girls (Obtainable over all ML games) then it would be as follows...

Sumika > Marimo > Kasumi(No Route) > Tama > Yuuko > Kei > Mana(No Route) > Mikoto > Chizuru > Meiya

I'm the same as you though Haxx, I never once thought of Meiya as a potential choice, I'd totally have friendzoned her myself as she was much better in that regard than anything else.

Well then, the VN is currently rated 9.29 if you want to put it in some sort of perspective
