To me, the openings and endings have always introduced me to many of the shows I love, and I frequently can judge on an anime just by checking out its OP and ED themes.

A quality anime must have quality themes, after all!

I also made a list of my top 25 songs!

http://youtu.be/mYz9abFQLoo

What I put into account most was how does the opening introduces you to the show,
and what the ending makes you feel.
They should give a very good image of what you're about to see.

What do you guys think? do songs push you to watching new series as well?

Good theme music is a nice addition to a series, but it doesn't make or break the series, and it doesn't affect my ratings. However, I sometimes make critical remarks if it doesn't fit the atmosphere of the series or if the opening/closing sequences are unusually poorly executed. This doesn't just apply to anime; it applies equally to movies, radio series, and television series.

Though it may not seem all that important, the opening of a series or movie can have a significant impact in getting the viewer/listener "in the mood" for the program to follow, and if it doesn't fit or it is poorly executed, it can be a distraction.
It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.

I LOVE listening to OP/ED I mean...it's what makes you hyped or sad (ex. Nagi no Asukara OP2) before the anime even begins or when it ends to top off what had happened in the anime.

I don't care for it at all. If it's cool, cool. If it sucks, well I don't really care anyway. I skip them most of the time. I tend to watch them at least once just to see what they're like, but otherwise whatever.

I second this. OP's and ED's are definitely something that's important to me. They introduce you, give you an overall feel over it and maybe show something in the OP which will make you more interested in it.

As an example, in the new Naruto Shippuden opening you'll see a crying Hinata. Today's episode will reveal why she's crying (Manga readers will know what I'm talking about)

I watch the OP's and ED's at least once. How many times I watch them depends on how much I enjoy them. If I don't like them then why should I watch them every episode? I do however dislike some OP's which are nothing but huge spoiler bombs, regardless of whether or not I already know what's going to happen.

So not much important I guess.

I LOVE OP's and ED's..

All the animes I've watched I've always enjoyed them, and it gives you a bit of feel for the show itself.. and then after a while you start singing along to them..

It got so bad that the Death Note OP, (the first one, not the second one) was my ringtone!
Yeah.. they're important to me. lol

Sure it can make a show better (case in point: Strike the Blood) but its not important at all. I like plenty of series that I thought had horrible OPs. Like One Piece.

One piece had many great openings and endings over the years.
Never met any one piece fan who complained bout the songs.

I think a good OP really sets the mood or gets you hyped up for the show. A bland OP will bore you before the show starts. I don't really take them into consideration when I rate an anime, though.

Mirai Nikki's opening introduced me to anime.
I almost always watch them unless they're terrible.
They don't really add anything extra to the show but if they're actually good it's a bit of a bonus.

I can see you

To me, the OP/ED music are things that can either allow me to enjoy a show more or less than if they weren't there. Now the hard part is not letting them drive you to make a majorly biased decision. For me, I can recall an instance where the music was so good, it led me to believe that the anime was a gift from God, but when I looked back on it, I realized the show had an unbelievable amount of flaws and that I was essentially brainwashed by the music (Yes, I'm looking at you Guilty Crown).

It is no jest. I only found a few I cared for: "One Day", "We Go", "Share the World", and "Hikari E". Everything else was pretty crap-tastic. Also, only after about 600 episodes I noticed there wasnt (then currently) an ED so I just assumed One Piece made up for the EDs with its 2-4 minute OPs, did it really have EDs??

They aren't extremely important, but if an anime that I really enjoy has a really good opening/ending, I'll listen to it almost every single episode. That always bumps my enjoyment of an anime up a little bit, honestly. Hajime no Ippo for example, the first two openings would always get me mega-hyped up, leading to me having more fun watching it.

I've got alot of anime openings/endings on my phone. Good music.

One piece had endings, back when they were being normal.
But after a while they cut them out and made the opening longer.
Rather a gusty move, I must say

Their true value is determined by whether or not I like the song. I usually don't watch them more than once unless I like the music. Although, I'll admit some of them have served in a "lazy trailer" fashion and got me to check out the show.

Really good openings and endings tend to more favorably affect my memory of their shows, if only slightly--Ergo Proxy, GITS: SAC, etc. But a bad one won't make a dent in a good show--HnC, Berserk.
