One can hope they manage to finish ALO strong now since all of SAO (volume 1 and 2 and some of its random side stories from what 8?) have been told - I mean if they dont plan a second season Novel 4 (end of ALO etc plus epilogue) is a perfect place to end - hell I thought it was a perfect place to end the series overall lol

Another great episode.

Its always interesting to see characters deal with the prospect of imminent death. Even if in case of Asuna and Kirito it was not going to happen.

Now while episode was perfect I have the same problems as with VN:

The final act in both was way too sudden, as if the author suddenly decided to change the style and story - on one hand its great because it breaks the mold and does the unexpected, something that other anime or tv shows or books would draw out till the end....on other hand its just so sudden and rushed - 'oh hey I am final boss, which you readers/viewers already guessed, now defeat me, oops i am defeated, here goes real world". I always felt that the whole "can't log out" idea was a perfect setting, but I do like what comes after this so oh well.

Still the episode itself was perfect and awesome. Hell it could have worked as the ending to the whole anime too, lol.

Easily amongst the best episodes this year overall.

Sorry, I'm an anime watcher as I didn't read the LN.

Just a question... did all those people who died in SAO actually died in the real world? Kayaba did mention that the people who died would have "lost their mind" when Kirito asked him about it. What does he mean?

I'm pretty sure you guys can just answer this right? It wouldn't be much of a spoiler anyway.

Btw, I really enjoyed this arc a lot. I'm usually not that highly critical of animes and quite easily pleased ha ha ha

Yes they died. It was stated they wouldn't regain consciousness, aka they're dead. If you're subs said "Lost their mind" It's pretty much same thing, they died.

yeah, it was dramatic, but it felt too jarring and unrefined....my heart did skip a beat though when i got to that part in the l/n and the adaptation did a great job of rekindling that feel of thrill

all in all, it still felt rushed and as i said before, the transition was too jarring and rough, but it was still a fine episode marked a great end to this intriguing yet terribly flawed arc....

looking forward to the next arc (since i really like suguha) and i hope it won't be bogged down by pacing issues like this one was...

4.5/5

by the way, did u know that kayaba akihiko's va is also the one that voiced spike spiegel of Cowboy Bebop? Awesome!

I PRAY TO ALL THE DEITIES IN THE UNIVERSE!
SAVE US FROM THIS PILE OF SHIT

- What's going on here?
- Asuna defying the paralysis?
- Kayaba being surprised? Of course he should! WTF was that?
- Asuna-chan died protecting Kirito-kun
- Kirito-kun lost the will to fight! He then died!
- HOLY FUCK IN FUCKS FUCK *******AHHHHHHHH********** GHOST KIRITO! SUPER SCARY AND AWESOME!
- Kayaba got stabbed. Die you evil monster
- Kirito-kun and Asuna-chan are in "heaven" looking down as their house and the world crumbles.
- WOAH! Kayaba came back to give a EPIC speech about a flying castle and hoping it actually exists somewhere.
- KILL ME NOW! Those brain dead asshat main characters agreed with the bastard that admitted 4000 players were really dead.
Kirito: "Yeah, I hope it does"
Asuna(Nods her head in agreement)
- Kirito-kun awoke in the real world! He can immediately walk again! ITS A MIRACLE!
- Attention hospital staff, where the fuck are you?
Thousands of players awoke, why is the place so damn empty.
- DON'T WORRY BOYS AND GIRLS! ASUNA-CHAN IS STILL ALIVE! AND DON'T FORGET THAT YUI-CHAN IS GOING TO COME BACK TOO

Episode = 0/5 (Had to rate it a 1 though)
Series so far = 3/10 (Should probably change it to a 2)

Why not end the anime here? Sword Art Online IS DONE afterall.

IT was his imagination. He imagined that he died, but hp actually stopped at 1 or whatever and he snapped back to kill Kayaba with that last shot.

The preview after the episode clearly shows
and I doubt that they would get rid of female lead mid-way through the series.

@Fai: May I know how do you know Kirito was 'imagining' his death and that his hp bar only stopped around 1?

Angel Beats is horrible drawn out incoherent mess of typical boring KyoAni fashion, that is saved by the last few episodes that actually manage to make the anime watchable, just barely, but watchable.
animenoobster said:

Because he was not dead?

Its either:
A) Kirito killed Kayaba before the death condition kicked in(which would make Kayaba stabbing Kirito pointless)
B) Kirito killed Kayaba while being on the last bit of his hp(which would explain why they both stabbed each other

Either way its not the first time that our point of view shifted towards Kirito's imagination. So the only way I can interpret that scene is that Kirito thought about getting dead and what that would mean and snapped back into reality hoping on the last bits of his life, driven by his emotions to finish what he started.

Its quite clear that Kayaba, being a sociopath he is, planned out this whole situation(Asuna's paralysis wearing off, etc) as an "ending for himself", yet he still was surprised that Kirito managed to own him in those conditions in the end.

As the last boss died, the death-trigger went off since the game was going offline - thus Asuna and Kirito, the people who "died" the last got lucky by escaping the whole brain-frying idea. They were amongst those who h ave beaten the game, thus as timer ran out they(most likely) got logged out instead of becoming vegetables.

This has to be the most contrived, all thought-process defying, breathtakingly-retarded BULLSHIT asspull I've seen in a battle Shounen for a very fucking long time. This is so fucking bad and stupid that I literally couldn't help but to fucking scream at my screen.

This was so bad, I feel insulted that a producing committee actually had the balls to present thinking human individuals with such a gigantic amount of pure, condensed bullshit. The amount of clicheed lines, asspull power-ups, blatant self-insertion and fucking overdramatization and pseudo-intellectuality in this episode alone makes me want to puke at the creator of this series. Holy shit, this totally blew my great mood for today.

Fuck this show. Seriously. This is worse than Guilty Crown, it just reached 1/10 for me. I never saw a bigger trainwreck of an anime. I'll probably have to sit through with this till the end, though - just to see how they will manage to top this episode.

The best bit of this episode was the hospital scene at the end.

It was all a bit sudden "fighting the final boss" and defying the game's programming like that. I'll admit it was pretty anti-climatic. Asuna had tripped so many death flags that when she was killed I wasn't the least bit surprised. Kirito -obviously wasn't going to die and the world was going to end (that much was guaranteed by the title).

What's going to happen now is there's going to be a new game in which Asuna is trapped I'm guessing or all the dead people are trapped and kirito is going to try and save them or some shit like that.

This was - a disappointing episode - Still I've enjoyed this show so far and I hope it gets good again

The SAO defenders, instead of trying to correct others and give reasonable explanations, they chose to get angry or ignore them, and plays around with "hate" posts and judge others based on their favorites list. That really doesn't bode well.

Fai tries the most, but alas, there's usually no evidence anywhere in the series that can completely back him up.

No point trying to change others opinion. Though I can admit that the show has had its flaws, but people complain at every little aspect. I could probably complain at little every aspect like people do on here, on other shows out here that are overrated/rated high.
