SDF Macross. Though I don't know how much of that can be attributed to the music shoehorned in as part of Robotech.

wow you guys make me feel old...

It's disheartening that most of you won't get a chance to see awesome classic anime back in the 80s and 90s.

On topic:
I can't remember the exact anime since it's been over 20 years, but it's probably Doraemon (1973). I still remember having a crush on Shizuka when I was 5 or 6 years old.

If only I could turn back time...

Evangelion, when I was about 6 or 7 they used to show episodes late at night on Australian TV. I was into anime like Sailor Moon and Dragon Ball beforehand, but Evangelion really sparked my interest in anime. :D

The anime that got me started was Deathnote. It just reached out to me in a way that no other show did. i guess just because it was different in a certain way that surprised me. it was the first anime i saw that actually made sense to me.

well as a north american kid, i watched pokemon, digimon, yugioh, and beyblade when i was young, but only digimon left a slight impression on me.

when I first saw inu-yasha, my interest in anime became stronger, and when I saw gundam seed, my interest in mecha skyrocketed.

and to think back then i could listen to english dub and not cringe in pain... or watch anime on television

naruto and bleach were my first anime watched after years of playing games, and at a younger age they appealed to me, and made me curious bout other anime and today i feel like ive watched a decent amount of anime

The first anime I fell in love with (seriously) was probably Toradora!. It was my third anime I think, the first and the second were K-On! and Umineko? I liked them but well, they didn't get me into that much. Afte I watched Toradora! I really became so eager to find other slice of life anime.

Now Watching

Earlier last year I was reminiscing of Rurouni Kenshin from my childhood and decided to re-watch the series; which lead me to Rurouni Kenshin: Trust & Betrayal and from there it all started.

But the first anime that I made me want to watch more anime and learn about them was Haruhi Suzumiya, and then Angel Beats,Fairy Tail and Elfen Lied...After them I found my way!!!

Inuyasha. I already watched it on TV but I had no idea it was called "anime". And also I watched it in my linguage, not in japanese. A few years after that, my friends started watching and I decided to watch it again. I made the download of the episodes in a website with a lot of others animes. I finished Inuyasha and Inuyasha Kanketsu-hen and I decided to start watching Chobits. Since that, I can't stop watching animes.

Like many others I watched Pokemon but didn't get into anime until I saw The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and Evangelion. I really started to love anime once I saw Death Note, Kaiji, Monster and some others.

Either 2004, 2005... can't quite remember. I knew I was in 8th grade.

That night...

Aside from Pokemon, I had never seen any anime before. Even then, Pokemon wasn't anime to me, it was just another cartoon. I was in my brothers room, which is one of those rooms that is in the basement, and the door to it is one of those trap door kind that is in the floor.

Well I was just doing what I do, watching cartoon network when I decided I'm gonna go upstairs to my room. I pushed on the door, and realized my brother had decided to invite TONS of people over and they were all standing on the door, and being very drunk and very loud!!

So I was trapped... unable to fall asleep, so I just sat up and continued watching until FLCL had come on. Now, most people don't understand what the hell is going on in this anime regardless. So I'm watching all this ridiculousness, listening to this soundtrack I can't understand. I don't remember feeling anything other than an uncomfortably violated, but...

...there was no going back. Hooked for life.

It was back in the Toonami days of CN. Back when Outlaw Star and Rurouni Kenshin were first being aired on TV. Those shows were what really got me into Anime.

Fate/stay Night was the one that really made me like anime. Before watching FSN I would sometimes check out Bleach or Naruto and the occasional Saturday morning Yu-Gi-Oh, but I wasn't what you'd call an "active" watcher.

My first anime was probably Pokemon but I had no clue what anime was way back then. I found out about anime back in 6th grade so I consider my first anime to be either Cowboy Bebop or Candidate for Goddess. Not sure which one I watched first but I remember them being on the very first adult swim anime block...those were good times.

Technically Dragon Ball Z (a typical introduction to an anime for U.S. child at the time, but I actually knew it was called 'anime') - but I didn't begin watching a lot of different anime and getting into the 'culture' until I watched Elfen Lied.

Rurouni Kenshin is the first anime I've watched ever in my life which led me to watch many animes.

Now I'm lazy to watch animes unless there is something worth watching. Other than that I just wait for new chapter of One Piece manga.

I'm not like before...

Well to begin with. My real discovery was at probably 2006-2007 years. I was just a kid. One my first was Yu-Gi-Oh! i really liked anime and especially their TCG which developed really good in daily market, not like some stupid beyblade or bakugan sh*& (%^ck them). Then I got lost in to studies and forgot about anime. Actually I remember Dragon Ball Z the series which I grew up with. GooD Old Times. I watched Death Note because I heard this was really epic anime. i watched it and it left me a big impression. Last year acrolling through the internet I found an anime Steins;Gate. At first I thought it wasn't interesting and I didn't want to risk. But for unknown reason i started watching it. First I just watched two - five episodes. Second I watched all anime because I got hooked up to it. This anime perfectly passed my wishes of anime I would like to watch. Probably I wrote to much because it was supposed to be a quick reply but whatever, because I just wanted to share my opinion either you like it or not. ^__^

There are three anime which were very important for me.
The first one was Sailor Moon which brought the existence of "cartoons from Japan" to my attention. I was a die-hard Sailor Moon fan, watched all episodes several times and bought practically everything I could get. It was a crazy time but I loved it and without Sailor Moon I don't know if I would like anime now...
The second one was Neon Genesis Evangelion. As I said I was really intent on Sailor Moon. But NGE showed me that there are other very good anime as well. After watching it I started looking for other anime to watch.
And then there was Slayers. After a break from anime it brought me back to it and since then I've been loving it even more than before.

My situation is a bit unique. I have seen Death Note, Fruits Basket, Mushishi, and the first half of Blood+ before I got into anime, and I, for some reason, never noticed anything similar between them. (Speaking of which, I should re-watch Mushishi. I didn't put it on MAL because its been so long...)

I got into anime by chance while watching Air. I discovered it while searching for a different movie while on Instant Netflix, and decided to watch it, because the synopsis intrigued me. Soon after, I discovered many, many sections of just anime on Netflix, and started watching stuff by Key.

I started watching anime as frequently as I do (about ten to twenty episodes most days) after Fullmetal Alchemist and Clannad. That's about it.
