@/animejas was right:
The production was similar to the last few episodes in terms of quality levels. Overall it was pretty boring for me again and didn't really feel the tension that the show was trying to portray in that dark setting and situation like that
There's definitely some pacing issues in these middle episodes. The beginning of the anime was fine, but things have gone hill rapidly after they left Despa's house.
So much pointless bickering in this episode.
At the beginning of the series, events and development just happened one after another. I was constantly engaged. But episodes like this just kill the momentum.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who thinks so:
Ax1490pacing and direction in the past 4-5 episodes have been quite bad. The fights are literally just a few stills and a LOT of talking. Even if WIT is saving their resources for the climax, it will have to be mind blowing if it wants to keep people interested in the anime.
Yeah, about 4-5 episodes ago is when my 10/10 rating for this anime started dropping. The dynamic animation/movement in the first episodes has dropped -- and episodes like this ARE just "stills" and "a LOT of talking".
From a production standpoint, ^their comment does raise a good point... perhaps the animation studio is saving resources for the climax. But, if that's true, then the climax better be truly spectacular.

At first it felt like a good lucid dream, but now it is turning into a fever dream. This is also a great way to put it. After super slow pacing, something out of left field will happen. Things have started to feel a bit random or overly convenient or just "WTF"-ish. The scene with Daida being presented with the "potion" in that ritual was a pretty interesting "good lucid dream", but things have been feeling like a "fever dream", with all the characters running into each other and this and that.
Iiiii dunno. In the first 5-10 episodes I was feeling good, but these past few episodes have been iffy.

There really wasn't that much substance apart from everyone who has done something bad making up with boji and him now having a team with the power of friendship. I dislike it when shows take that direction cause nothing matters anymore since there are no stakes. Domas falls 5 metres on solid rock? Guess he is fine. The snake seemingly dies? Bojis friend luckily got a tone of magic juoce bottles for his mother. The bodyguard nearly dies - just heal him lol. It gets boring and tedious since I don't even care if anyone gets injured or even dies anymore since there are no stakes at all. This is the same problem I had with "I got reincarnated as a slime." Nothing mattered and when something horrible happened it just got reverted. Wow I couldn't have said it better myself. I was wondering why these past two episodes, specifically, felt so tedious. Yeah... absolutely nothing's at stake.
Obvious no one wants to see Domas commit suicide, and there's some relief in seeing him survive a fall like that..... but come on, he's a human being, merely "training" shouldn't be enough to withstand an impact to the head like that. His skull and neck should be cracked from that. But he's just completely uninjured/unharmed from that scene... which at first was pretty emotional, seeing him try to rectify his betrayal... but yeah, just so stupid. Sure, it's an anime/animation (and a cartoony one at that), but there's has to be a certain amount of immersability. As this other person said, how can we be expected to care about anything in this show when nothing is at stake.
Their point is even strengthened by their reference of the bodyguard (the bald one, I presume) from the last episode.
That guy struggled so hard to defeat just THREE of those beasts outside of Hilling's room... and now he's outside battling a countless number and nearly dying of his injuries; but every "good guy" (snake included) who was injured was conveniently healed by Hilling -- and when Hilling uses all her stamina, she just gets presented with more potions.
In a way, it's cool that Desha is neutral enough to not slay Domas or anything -- it's cool that Desha is somewhat pacifistic. That's an exception to nothing being at stake.
But geez, how is Domas able to singlehandedly defeat a literal army covered in armor.
"When something horrible happens it just gets reverted."
That seems to describe MOST of this series in a nut shell, and many other shounen anime too. Ugggh. |
