Bleach - Fade to Black: Kimi no Na wo Yobu - 7/10

Found this movie to be fairly enjoyable, but I felt the story was kinda weak. It had some cool action, but if you're not a big fan of Bleach this is easily passable. Watch the 2nd movie instead.

When i started to watch it i was very intrigued . Characters were done nicely, music really suited every scene and generally it was very good anime but then i saw the last ep and i was left kinda disapointed.....

Angel Beats!

I don't know whether to give it a 3 or a 4. To sum it up: extremely underdeveloped. The premise itself possesses a lot of potential, but it was wasted. Probably because for whatever reason it was only 13 episodes.

Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood 7/10 :

Good shounen anime with a decent story, not very long, good use of emotion, decent comedy, great fighting animation even though the art isn't the best out there. All the characters are unique and are actually useful compared to other shounen anime I know. I didn't like the way they mixed drama and comedy in this one, and some on the times it's not even funny. A lot of things related to the story and the alchemy are not well explained, they basically skipped it or doesn't make any sense. The end is predictable which was a bit of a disappointment.

Umineko no Naku Koro ni: 3/10

One of the most nonsensical and incoherent stories in any anime to date that I have seen. Most of the main characters are awful, especially Battler. Seriously, the best parts of this series happened when Rosa was slapping her daughter around for making that "uuuu" noise (and I applaud the woman for doing that). It's a pity since the anime started out reasonably well, unfortunately it disintegrated into utter shit by the end.

Mind explaining why you thought it disintegrated into utter shit? or why the characters were awful? It seems kinda pointless to say it without reasoning, saying it like that isn't a review, it's an opinion, which are totally different.

Anyways.

Spice and Wolf

I gave it a solid 8/10 after finishing it.

The characters are relatively interesting, not amazingly so but they are definitely likeable and most are relatively well developed and fleshed out by the end, as they aren't defined by just one factor, for example - Horo isn't just a wolf deity, or isn't just a woman who really really really likes her fruit, but instead those are just parts that make her up, which is what quite a few anime's fail to do.
They seemed relatively realistic as characters and that was a major point for this anime, if they couldn't pull that off it wouldn't have been worth watching, but they did, and they did well.

The music was good in my opinion, it was nothing amazingly memorable, but it complimented the anime well, and it made some moments more powerful.
Also I thoroughly enjoyed the opening theme, but I disliked the ending, and always turned it off before it started playing, no love from me there.

The plot was rather medium to slow paced, I enjoy relatively slow paced anime's and even I felt like it was dragging on a bit at some points, so some people may be turned off by this for that reason, but I cannot really fault this too much, as it is relatively slow by design, just a thing to note.

It isn't super action packed, or a joke a second type of anime, it is rather down to earth, normal-day type of show (minus the whole, y'know, she's a wolf deity thing.) if that makes any sense, there are a few spectacular moments, but the majority is them just doing normal things, making a living, a few cute moments, a few jokes, but in the end, it is still very likeable BECAUSE of that.

Oh, and I thought the ending was absolutely superb, good enough to bump it up from a 7 to an 8, I liked the final two episodes that much.

House of Five Leaves

9/10

This had a solid beginning, character-development and some plot in the middle, and an ending as solid and good as the beginning. The pacing was good throughout the series (it did seem a little slow near the middle, but the character development and interactions made up for it).

The charaters were all-around interesting. You got a good look at all the members... except forOtake. I didn't think that she got as much screentime and development as the men did, which I was a tad disappointed in.

Overall, this was a great anime. It may not have been all-action, but it had loads of personality.

Toradora.

The first episode itself is already a great first episode. It may seem like a typical romance anime but it really isn't. There is character development and some twists to the plot. Supporting characters aren't just shoved to the background; you get to know more about them. As for the main characters, they all have different but interesting personalities. It's not quite predictable, except for certain things.

The art is good. Some of the females look the same except for the hair and eye colours, but it's easy to tell them apart.

Overall it's definitely worth watching and this is said by someone (me) who generally dislikes romance stuff.

9.5 or 10/10
Not sure if this rating will change though.

Kuroshitsuji 8/10

Kuroshitsuji was like a combination of Host Club's comedy and Count Cain/Godchild's type of story line. In general it was a good series though some of the stories were a bit silly. The artwork was really good and the voice acting was great (japanese). I wasn't expecting so much humor in a series set in victorian era Europe but it wasn't bad. Overall, the series was good but it wasn't anything special in my opinion. Just an entertaining show to pass the time.

Clannad - 9/10

I started it back in January 2010 but dropped it after about 6 eps. Gave it a second chance recently and I'm glad I did because it turned out good. Most characters were generic and not totally original, but a few made the show interesting. Not into the OP or ED but the music played in the anime was alright. Overall it was good and in a way, memorable. I don't usually like this sort of anime so it's surprising that I ended up liking this.

Mouryou no hako - 8/10

Well, I have to say it has one of the most beautiful art I have ever seen but nothing less expected from Clamp who were in charge of the character design.
To be honest it was a hard series to follow mostly because the massive amount of Japanese folklore they used and the long long conversation they held (one was two episodes long). The story was really confusing almost till the last two episodes where everything was explained just like in a detective novel. But I think they made a really good job on setting the story and then covering everything up within those 13 episodes, though it needs to be watched twice~
If you like mysterious, psychological stuff where you also have to use your brain then it's a good choice. And don't be fooled by the little yuri at the beginning~

B Gata H Kei- 8/10

The first time I heard of the plot, I thought it was distasteful. However the plot was well-executed. It has funny and somewhat intense moments, which balance up quite well. Yamada was an interesting lead; I like the fact that she almost always made the first moves on the guy, although I must say the whole idea of losing virginity as a plan is kinda.. well, ridiculous and sort of desperate. The ending wasn't the best, but overall it was entertaining.

I will have to admit this series is stupid...but I also think it's stupid awesome. The characters are all one dimensional and the plot isn't really all the important. This series is about being over the top and it goes to the top of Mount Over The Top and keeps going way past that. If you like series that have a great aesthetic style, lots of fighting, but you don't need to think think about it this is totally a series for you to watch.

Vampire Wars

Score: 1/10

Well, to say this was terrible is an understatement. It lead was a tough guy stereotype with next to no personality. His relationship with with the female lead is immensely underdeveloped and forced, hell, his declaration of love at the end (which you see coming the second the female lead shows up) is cringe-worthy. Its action scenes make even the most massive of shoot-outs boring, and its explanation behind the existence of vampires is the most ridiculous I have ever heard. However, its biggest crime of all is, despite its absurd plot, it has no sense of humor. It could have at least been tolerable if it didn't take itself so seriously. This unholy abomination must be avoided at all cost.

Canaan

Score: Originally 8/10, downgraded to 7/10

This was a fairly solid action show. It centered around girl, Canaan, with powers given to her by synthesasia, triggered by exposure to the Uuwa virus. In fact, there turn out to be a whole village that was changed due to exposure to that virus- the ones that changed and hadn't died, exactly. But there was something special about Canaan- she had the ability to become a supersoldier. And that made her valuable. But.... the thing is, there were plot holes that you couldn't ignore. How did they know that this girl was going to change? What was the purpose of training her- or the other Canaan? And a few others that were fairly obvious. But the animation was great, the acting pretty good, and one somewhat annoying character that toned it down by the end.

Seitokai no Ichizon

Score: 9/10

The series is quite original for having a male main character who isn't your stereotypical passive nice guy who just happens to be surrounded by girls and sighs all the time as if he's complaining about it. No. The main character works very hard to create a harem like those in H-games in real life and he admits it all the time. It's refreshing to see a protagonist that has character in comedy anime these days. Also, the character designs of the female characters are quite appealing. The reason I didn't give it 10/10 is because the protagonist does drift in and out from the aforementioned stereotype from time to time. If they executed that a little bit better it would be a great anime.

Kannagi

8.5/10, rounded up to 9/10

The first eleven episodes had me rolling, and I would've given it a nine with zero problems, but the last two episodes felt emo as hell, which made me want to dock it a point. An okay ending caused me to give it another half point to round it back up to a nine. It feels a little "off" giving it a nine, considering my previous complaint, but I think I'd feel worse giving it an eight.

Noir

9/10 (score might change in the future)

It started off quite slow-paced, a little boring in fact. The repetition of the same flashback annoyed me at first, but later it didn't bother me too much. As the story progressed, the episodes got more interesting. Good gunfights and action. The two main characters didn't seem to interact in a friendly way but the bond between them was inevitable. Overall, a great and unpredictable (to a certain extent) series.

Mobile Suit Gundam 0080 : War in the Pocket

7/10

Despite being a short series, this anime is great. It's from the point of view of a boy who likes giant robots and I found that very nice since I can relate to it. Like all the Gundams I've seen so far, it portrays the cruelty of war. I would have given it a better score if it was longer and the characters were more developed, but it's very good for a short series.

Break Blade - 8/10

This anime is great! The plot is a bit generic, but it has potential. The characters are a bit typical. There wasn't any character development, but I'm expecting some in the next movies. The music was great and there are some memorable pieces, like the OP and the EDs, but that's about it. The voice acting was pretty average, nothing special around there. But, one of the more better things in this anime is the art and animation. Very detailed and very pretty. Fell in love with the art at first sight. Overall, a good series with nice art.

Great anime, however it had a terribly slow start. All the music was good except for the endings and the 2nd opening. The characters were all interesting however some had problems that they were going to get over but it took took long, for example the main character didn't like killing people, which is understandable but they drag this on until the end

Black Rock Shooter

7/10

(full review:http://myanimelist.net/profile/anthonyistosen/reviews )

What can I say? With no expectations, Black Rock Shooter barely made it to average. A decent plot was sacrificed for some convoluted action scenes. Although, the sacrifice wasn't all in vain, as the OVA took advantage of this short opportunity to display quite impressive art and stellar soundtrack. Watch for fun, but don't expect too much (many fans who watched the trailers were disappointed)

2/10

Even as a hentai enthusiast, I found this to be disgusting in every aspect. Rape by grotesque old men, consumption of bodily waste and pubic hair, and blood-curdling screams of women, not in the throes of pleasure or ecstasy, but of mind-twisted insanity. All the while, the female lead continues to think that by performing these acts, she'll be become an angel to a dying sanitarium patient. I started this with an erection, and within five minutes, my boner had died with no hope of returning. It was a struggle to keep from dropping this before the end.

...Then I read MAL's information page for it and realized it was part of the Night Shift Nurses series. Ha ha, silly me.

I have to say that this isn't the masterpiece many of it fans made it out to be but it was good...just not perfect.
For one thing I really enjoyed the first two halfs..before it went all weird on me..can anyone tell me what the hell was going on in the last two episodes? I also didn't like the shortcuts the anime took(Like the elevator scene..). Never the less, the animation was good when needed and some of the fight scenes were just awesome.
I also liked how this anime had more depth then most robot shows and I really liked Misato.
Through I hate SHINJI. Not as much as I hate his dad but it's up their. He has no balls..he just sits there and people die. Yes. I get it your dad left you..SUCK IT UP. A lot of people have it worst then you. SO GET OFF YOUR ASS AND DO SOMETHING!!!
In short; I liked the show but it isn't a masterpiece...so I hope that people would stop treating it as such.

a quick watch anime that held my interest throughout the whole thing. If it held my interest throughout why does it only rank a 7? ... Well, because in the end I was left unsatisfied. The ending had it's own cute moments, but something's were left unresolved. With only twelve episodes, I didn't expect much character building, but surprisingly i got some. The good thing about this anime is that it shows the ups and downs of a first love. Every story in this anime is different, and they're all dealing with their own convoluted love story that vastly differs from the likes of anyone elses. The animation was good, even though I think it was a bit lame to go out of their way to show pantie shots every now and then. C'mon. Most of them are in middle school...

I enjoyed it, but it didn't have enough substance to get higher than a 7.

Lovely Complex = 4.5 ~4

Pretty much awful in terms of characters. They all were either useless, annoying, plot devices(all were actually), or just oblivious idiots who could be dropped in and out of the show whenever the creator pleases. Hated the main character. Every episode she cries. And how many times had she said the line, "I'm not gonna give up" only to layer say "I give up" this cycle goes on forever and all the characters are copies of each other recycled and reused. The plot is awful and too convenient (especially the last episode), and I was so annoyed I almost dropped it. The music, in the funny or happy moments was good, the dramatic music and OP and EDs were shit. The art style was okay and quite nice to look at but very inconsistent. Overall I felt like smashing my head against the wall because this anime is so irritating in so many ways and how it earns a high score on MAL is beyond me. Utter crap.

o_o lovely complex has got to be one of my all time favorites. i agree, koizumi-chan is annoying with her crying, but the story is so touching, and kept me wondering what would happen next. i literally couldn't stop watching. i respect your decision, i really do, but i just don't understand how someone can actually dislike lovecom :|

Asobi ni Iku yo! - 6/10

Was pretty impressed with this anime that's currently airing at the moment. From what I'd heard was a series dedicated on reaching a certain fanbase, it had delivered and provided just that little extra in terms of service. From Alien Cat-Girls, Gun-Wielding Childhood Friends to a Classmate with special powers, I was surprised and impressed that this series has made me stay in my seat for a whole episode and not get bored as I usually do when it comes to ecchi harem(simply due to most having no story or being slice-of-life). Definitely going to be continuing this show and if it stays its course like it has for the last 6 episodes, then I can guarantee that my rating will score higher by end of season.

Although it didn't follow the manga closely and made some significant changes, it was more action-packed compared to its prequel. The colours for the characters were a major improvement, esp for Saji who looked odd in the prequel. In this (the sequel), he had a change of hair colour which suits him better. Overall, it was more enjoyable than the first season, with some good fights mixed with some humour and fanservice.

Crest of the Stars

If it was standalone, I'd probably give it 6/10, but if the later installments use the buildup well it'll get a 7. Had some problems balancing a complex setting and space battles with typical gunfights and banter between the leads. The setting was interesting, but only so much of it could be shown in a single season. The leads come from radically different backgrounds, are very well-developed and have natural, amusing conversations. Lots of great one-liners were interspersed in meaningful dialogue between not just them, but the better side characters. The antagonists were lame, and at times it focused too much on the immediate conflict rather than continuing to flesh out the mains. Art varied, animation was great for the space battles and during most of the conversations, but mostly unremarkable. The budget-saving moves in the last episode were too obvious. From its approach to politics and use of the setting, though, I look forward to the sequels.

Space Pirate Captain Herlock: The Endless Odyssey

In a first look, this anime has definite potential. Production values are high, art direction and character design are the best in any Harlock series to date. It is also directed by Rin Taro, who also directed the superb 1978 TV series. Unfortunately, it fails to live up to the potential.

I think there are two main reasons: the pacing and the character development. The story takes too long to develop in the beginning, spending almost 2/3rds of the anime to gather every character. This also hurts character development since there is not enough time for them to develop, being given instead some general defining traits. Harlock himself seems to be needlessly stiff and unforgiving.

The anime can also be divided in two parts: when the characters are travelling through space and when they are grounded in a planet. The best parts of the anime come from the first setting, but unfortunately I think the second is the one mostly used.

In general, this anime has some good moments (when the characters are battling in space) and good production values, but most of its other parts come off as dull so I 'd rate it a 6/10.

GitS: SAC

9/10

The only actual reason it's not getting a 10 is the Standalone episodes. Most of them are easily forgettable, though some of them are actually pretty good. I think the Tachikoma Standalone episode when it found the movie director's cyberbrain was great. But others... especially toward the end, it's like stalling so enough episodes can fit a regular 24-26 episode series. Another thing I had was the Tachikoma short cameos at the end. Sure, I can skip it and it had essentially nothing to do with the series, and I did skip like at least 5+ episodes, but I found most of them to be a rather waste of time for a show that didn't need it at all. GitS had humor, but it wasn't like sillyness of the short episodes. If they really wanted us to show the AI of the Tachikomas, there had to be better ways of doing that. And not having it in 2nd gig is a good thing.

What gave GitS charm was the scifi world it's in. It isn't totally in the realm of impossibility like traveling in the speed of light, or time traveling, or hell, gundam suits. The idea of the cyberbrain itself is interesting. Plug a cord in, and you get to see their memories. You can even hack it to temporarily control their nerve/visual/audio whatever sensors. As for Ghosts in a full prosthetic suit, they can become eerily inhuman by having the option of shutting down, say, nerve sensors to avoid pain.

The animation was great, the sound matching the atmosphere, characters had some depth, but for a 26 episodes, I guess I was sort of expecting more depth, rather than CSI-like missions that didn't really expand what we know about the characters already.

The main arc was rather interesting, especially so when compared to the Standalone episodes. It wasn't anything really exaggerated. The world isn't going to end, there was no generic enemies that want to rule the world, or whatever. Not everything was as it seems. It opens itself like a mystery. Then it develops to political conspiracy. A rather refreshing change, than a lot of other stuff I've seen. And it wasn't complicated enough to be completely confusing, or boring for that matter.

So, a 9/10.

Had been planning to watch this for a long time and it did not disappoint. A rich setting with a very solid story. 'A great distance in the wind, the sky at dawn' is a truly epic arc and really made the show stand out. I loved all of the characters, a wonderful variety of personalties and all were handled well, the anime had amazing character interaction. Soundtrack was both beautiful and cohesive. Only downfalls are the recap eps which I felt weren't needed and the fact it's incomplete.

The DVD case advertised the series as "the quirky, action-packed OVA that defined 'fan service' for generations of anime to come!" Sure enough, it had action and it had fanservice...but that was about it. The action scenes were pretty average, and the attempts at comedy failed for the most part. Really, the only thing that the series excelled in was pantyshots.

Yeah, it delivered what it promised, but didn't really excel in those areas, nor did it bring anything special or different to the table.

Also, the dubbing was extremely shit.

Eureka seveN -- 7/10
This is a difficult one to rate. The final 10-20 episodes were pretty damned awesome and make me consider bumping the score up to an 8. However, for about the first 20-ish episodes, I didn't like any of the characters and, instead, found them all irritating. Once everyone stops treating Renton like the ultimate butt-monkey, Renton becomes less bratty/whiny, and Eureka starts showing more emotion, they become a lot more likeable.

Added to that, the real plot doesn't really start up until about episode 25 or 30, so until then, it feels like the series lacks a proper direction and the viewer is left wondering why the members of Gekko State are considered terrorists. Until they reveal why everything is how it is, I was under the impression that Holland and co. were just a bunch of free-spirited, air-surfing hippies rather than criminals.

But, once the real plot kicks in, everything is just sparkles and awesome. Can't complain about the music and animation, either...but then again, we're talking Studio Bones here.

tl;dr Eureka seveN is a pretty good mecha anime that didn't really need to be 50 episodes long.

Hayate no Gotoku -- 7/10

Hayate is combination of comedy, action, weirdness and constant parodies revolving around a young boy who is very unfortunate with his life. Hayate is your above average boy who has more life experience in his 16 years of life than most people would in a life time giving him incredible speed, stamina and strength.

Ayasaki Hayate has had hundreds of part time jobs while going to school but his parents extensive spending eventually led them to using their own son as collateral for a debt they took out with the Yakuza. Hayate has no choice but to either give himself up to the Yakuza to be taken apart for the black market or raise the money himself, but to get it so quick he would have to become a criminal.....and in comes Nagi Sanzen'in, the heir to the Sanzen'in fortune.

Hayate tries to kidnap her but eventually she is kidnapped by another group and thrown in their car. Hayate chases down the criminals on a bike out running them and saves Nagi and she takes his offer to take her away as a confession of love leading to him being hired as her personal butler...his job to protect her from all the kidnappers.

The series overall is hilarious and odd as Hayate does everything from butler training, going to high school, helping Nagi and getting into alot of trouble, I jut re watched the whole series on Crunchyroll since a live action version of the series is going to be released and it would be funny to check it out.

I like how the manga took a lot of the series into more parodies but the anime was really well done.

Chu-Bra!!- 7/10

It had a somewhat interesting plot and for the most part, the anime stuck to it pretty well. Despite having nothing outstanding whatsoever, the anime was good enough to keep me watching. For a quite recent anime, the art and animation quality were mediocre. Those made the anime look like it was from a couple of years back. As for the undergarments' designs, they were mediocre and plain though not exactly ugly. Overall it's not a memorable anime nor one worth rewatching, but it's not a waste of time either.

Eureka Seven 9/10

Anime has amazing music period, the characters and story were also great. Though the way they went into the characters could have been better, some weren't introduced very well. Other than that great anime.

Baccano! : 7/10

The anime quality was decent, however I found the plot to be seemingly overcomplicated and the constant time jumps become infuriating eventually. Some of the characters were really good but I felt the ending to be a bit rushed as everything is happening one second then the next everything is all better.

I dont understand how this anime placed so highly on the ranking charts. It's good but certainly not deserving of the rank it has.

Gantz (Not Second Stage) - 9/10

I havent seen an anime that ive thought was truly clever and original since Death Note, unlike most anime i couldnt stop watching. Its a very interesting premise and i wish the show was more than the 26 eisodes it was.

Angel Beats 9/10

This was really enjoyable once it got further along in the plot. Most of the important characters were brought out in full detail and depth. Though there still some mysteries left unsaid, overall the anime was a joy to watch.

Ikkitousen: Great Guardians- 4/10

A season full of fillers. Well, to be fair the first half of the series had pretty decent fillers. However the second half was a major letdown. The last two episodes were pretty boring. Overall, it was quite forgettable.

Strike Witches Season 1: 7/10

I quite liked this, the only thing that really bothered me was the obvious fan service. It's kinda creepy when women never wear anything from the waist down bar panties. It was kinda nice at first but when you care more about the plot than fanservice it kind of detracts from the overall impact.

Genshiken- 8/10

I marathoned this series and I gotta say, I enjoyed it. I didn't have any expectations prior to watching it. I wasn't a fan of any of the characters, but they were an interesting bunch. Every episode was good. There were no boring bits at all. The art was simple but consistent. The OP and ED somewhat suited the anime. Overall, definitely one worth watching.

Angel Beats - 7/10

It was good and pretty damn touching at times. The animation was ok and the voice acting was great. Didn't think I would actually like it as much as I did but am glad I watched it.

Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas - Meiou Shinwa - 10/10

I enjoyed so much....

Pretty high quality sound and image and the great story. A lot of high power fights and the Gold and Spectre show.
If you liked the classic Saint Seiya, you can´t miss it....

Lucky Star.

Rewatched it yet again, but this was the first time I'd seen it with English voices. Akira and Misao's voices were very well-done...Patty's was not. Also, I'm still not sure what to think of Kagami's voice. Not necessarily bad, but a bit more...nasally than I'd expected.

Durarara!!
8/10
Pretty confusing series to be honest. Didn't get what was going on but the art and music really made it up for me. I don't think it deserves the rating it currently has on Mal.

K-ON!! 7/10 (so far)

Pretty much the same as the first series, but maybe slightly better. It's still slice of life, but I found the series much more enjoyable the second time around. Also there are a few touching moments.
