Is this like serious??
I mean its almost 3900 days, which is 10-11 freaking years!
you would take like 30 years even if you watched/read 10 hours a day!

It's how he makes a living, he is an anime critic and voices opinions on whether or not the anime lives up to Japan expectations.

Well, he's fishy too. I think he once mentioned his age being about 30 and he does live in Japan (according to him) and has watched and read a lot from a young age. Given that the length on MAL doesn't have to be accurate (it's just a guess especially for manga and you can always skip OPs and whatnot) it could theoretically be possible though. Heck, he could even be reading manga while watching anime on TV as far as I know. So who knows how legit he is.
I probably regret this post by now.

Ive slowed down a lot lately but i used to alternate between two or three different series so i didnt get bored of the same thing. I'd recommend that method for long running shounens. Some shows i found easier to marathon than others and I am currently catching up on Hajime no Ippo as well. If you get sick of it just do something else for a while and come back later, other than that i think you just have to be really interested in a series.

I've been watching it for about 8 years occasionally. I really don't watch that much but it just adds up over the years. I can go weeks without watching any and then marathon 2-3 during a lazy weekend.

I watch around 20+ anime currently. I download the latest episodes of the airing ones and whole episodes of an ended series then watch it on bed. I watch simultaneously, after watching all the episodes of the airing ones, I watch a couple of episode each for the ended ones.

Well its been two years and though I have seen more anime, its still no where near the mark some people are at.

I think my main strategy should be to watch multiple anime at the same time weekly. And not like 3 or 4 but rather 10+ a week.

After exams I can marathon a crapton of animes.

I guess it depends on how casual you are, I've been watching Anime beyond what's on TV for about 4 years now and I haven't even broken 100 yet. This is mostly because my undergrad was a massive time commitment and in order to balance school, social life and hobbies, I had to sacrifice my commitment to some of my hobbies.

But in grad school I had fewer social commitments so I picked it back up and have become much less casual. Unfortunately I'll have to slow back down again when I get a job because it will almost certainly be a massive time commitment.

I think people watch anime that is currently airing on tv, so it means is one peiosde per week, so that a good oportunity to watch too much anime at the same time. and just remember that in mal anime is divided on seasons, ovas, specials in separetly so that why people has 500+ anime on their complete list.

You should do like I do: Watch 1 dubbed + 1-2 subbed medium quality Anime simultaneously. With this you can even enjoy a less interesting Anime and train your multitasking abilities.

Just keep watching and it will accumulate in couple of years. I have around 4 hours of free time every day after work for anime so I watch only around 7 episodes every day but been doing that for over 10 years.

You don't have to be no-lifer or spend whole day watching anime to get high numbers. You only need patience and perseverance.

It all begins with a good anime and once its done you want to watch more. I go on and look fore different anime and mark it down on a list of "to watch" then from there i work my way. If its really good i marathon the whole thing, others a i drag. Some i watch here and there it just kind of happens.

Why does the number of watched shows even matter in the first place? It's good to watch a lot of different stuff to know what you like and so on I get that, but what other reason could you have? It's not like you are "cool" for having over 1000 completed shows here on MAL or something like that.

Your problem is that you don't seem to realize that anime is an entire medium. You seem to only be concentrating on TV series, and mostly ignoring things like movies and short OVAs which is how most people have seen so much.

If you look at my list (currently 1,597 titles), TV series account for only 595 titles in my completed list and the remaining 978 are movies, OVAs, and specials that took far less time and effort to watch yet add up faster. All that anime was watched over 18 years of me being an anime fan also.

It depends what you watch. I've been reading manga for years, so my list is quite extensive. My anime collection has also grown bigger, since I tend to watch a lot of episodes per day, especially on the weekends.

About eight years, and yes for a couple of years. Though getting that amount of anime watched is pretty easy. It can be done in less than a year if you focus on the small titles.

Well, barring the fact that 95% of the anime series I'm watching right now are airing, I actually find watching a whole buttload of series at the same time relaxing rather than hectic. If I ever tried to marathon a long series I'd probably stop watching anime outright just from fatigue.

I'm the exact opposite, I can't watch more than a few airing shows before I've seen everything I'd be interested in that's already finished

It's not that ridiculous if they're all airing shows, since then the broadcast schedule spaces things out for you.

Ridiculous is that one guy who has over 100 shows on his watching list.
