Really good episode again, focusing more on Balsa and her fight with her 'business rival' from back in the day, who happened to spot them at the summer festival while knowing about how Prince Chagum is still alive and well with Balsa over there.

In this show so far, Balsa's past has been shrouded in mystery despite knowing a couple details like how she and Tanda had a wedge driven between them when Balsa was forced to kill at some point, with what wedge leading to her turning the corner around to save people and never kill again, no matter what. But given how she fought Karbo at one point, who in the past, felt humiliated for not only the way Balsa took him down with psychologically messing with his head with tormenting tactics, but also didn't give him the warrior-level death for losing in battle too. His pride was shattered for being beneath the level that was worthy to kill in a fight. So knowing that she does her very best not to kill, he's back and with trump cards in his hand (killing the innocent, exposing Chagum or killing him too) and wants to get vengeance against her once and for all. I expected someone to spot Balsa and Chagum during the festival, but was expecting more of a guard of the palace to point it out or an enemy working with the kingdom, rather than just a rival from Balsa's past so that was interesting.

In this whole ordeal, Karbo states to Balsa that until she fights him, he would kill whoever was first to pass the gate everyday before she accepts. So involved as innocent bystanders, were Tandor and Sena, a pack driver and a teacher respectively. To protect them, Balsa would travel with them (although seem more like a nuisance) and after sometime due to the frustrations of Karbo and the stone shooter he hired reaching her breaking point, she went full on tiger mode in a really damn good fight against Karbo and humiliated his ass again, saying that he was beneath her and slashed him. She thought she got him, but in reality, her subconscious protected her vow to Tanda by only slashing the shirt Karbo wore.

Balsa's someone who had taken lives in the past, and saved lives after to atone, considering that all lives are valued equally. But the more the show progresses, the more it's clear that Balsa definitely contradicts herself since she clearly values Chagum's life a lot more as a protector, being willing to kill if that's what she has to do to protect Chagum and let him be safe day by day without having to be under constant surveillance by people looking to kill him and her, no matter what. She didn't kill Karbo subconsciously, but she was willing to raise the spear and graze it against him with death's door being so close to him that he could taste it. Shows how much of a maternal bond she has with Chagum, willing to break her vow for the sake of his future. At least after humiliating him even more than before, he seemingly lost all resolve to continue further and the two travelers were safe too in the end.

did anyone notice that almost animalistic tiger roar paired with the animation of balsa charging? it even showed her canines at the last frame. very neat touch.

Fun fact: those two guys were probably the first villains to appear in this story. Every other antagonist so far has simply been acting in the best interest of their nation, while the two guys in this episode are just straight up dicks.

Also, I'm pretty sure Balsa broke her vow by killing that guy's soul lmao.

Are they really "villains" though? One of them is a guy who seeks revenge against Balsa for humiliating him in the past, he acts on his feeling of resentment rather than being evil, which even shows he changed his weaposn from sword to spear,, and the other guy is simply a henchman who only does the job he was paid for.

And the end of the episode is pretty symbolic, saying that "Balsa killed the man's soul" is kinda basic and doedn't really reflect the truth of what's happened.

Are you serious? The two guys were going to kill random travellers just to piss off Balsa. Of course they're friggin villains, this isn't rocket science.

And my last comment was a joke.

They threatened to do it but did they actually do it, that is the difference.

Anime character: "I'm going to kill a random citizen every single day until you fight me."
JoeChip: "He's not a villain, he's just misunderstood!"

Your sarcasm is as weak as the fictional argument you present.

I actually watched the episode, I'm beginning to doubt you have. Or maybe you don't understand the difference between an antagonist and a villain. An antagonist hinders the protagonist on their journey. A villain does the same but is evil on top of it.

This anime is full of antagonists, but the two pricks in this episode are villains. Balsa explains that one of them literally worked for slavers in the past. This is the writers shorthand and economical way of telling us he is evil. As was the scene when the travellers got robbed at arrow-point. This is, by the way, an evil act that a villain would do. It's actually insane I have to explain this to you like I would a child.

You know, I really can't stand contrarians like you. You'd enter a WWII thread and defend Hitler's honour just to cause an argument.
