@Chad_Snow you've been commenting this every week and it's really tiring to see it. You're favorite anime is about a middle schooler with boobs the size of her head lmfao.

If you don't like anime stop watching it???

---

Glad overall most of the people and those on other websites have had positive feedback for this episode. The candle scene is my favorite in the entire visual novel.

This was not the tale of Tsumugi, the teddy bear, but of Tsumugi, the person
I love her route, and just like Kamome's, I was destroyed even though I knew what was going to happen lol
Loved it

Didn't like this route, couldn't feel anything towards mugyu girl since the mc barely spent time with her from our point of view. Hope the next route is better
@Cestlavie_ While I already played the visual novel, I agree that it is kinda hard to feel anything for Tsumugi on this anime because of extreme lack of interaction with Hairi and the others, hence, the horrible pacing. I totally blame that it seems they are trying to stick with the 4-episode per route rule, which it kinda affects the buildup between Tsumugi and Hairi's relationship. I knew it beforehand that this route deserved more episodes.

Personally, Tsumugi's route is the most emotional route on the visual novel. Sadly, the anime failed to give me the feels.

I will be against my friends. I couldn't connect with tsumugi, her romance with the MC didn't make any sense to me at all. The previous route was much better built and more impactful with Plot Twist. It even surprised me by reading that you liked this route so much, maybe I'm a heartless madman.
@Domizeira At least you are not the only one. Granted, I've already played the visual novel. The pacing of Kamome's route was way much better which is why it has better impact. I already called it on the previous episode or two that this route really deserved more episodes in order to have some emotional connection to Tsumugi to have a better emotional impact in the end. Tsumugi's route is the most emotional route for me on the visual novel but sadly the anime fails to do that.

I give it a Mugyu/10 (fuck someone already said that, oh well lol), good job everyone, we really did it.

Jokes aside, this didn’t work for me. I think Tsumugi is really cute, I liked her moments with Hairi and Shizuku, and I really like the idea they’re going for with her being the summer itself, I think that’s cool and interesting. But I really didn’t like the plot itself, and no it’s not because I don’t understand it, I just think it’s dumb lol, I would have preferred if Tsumugi was an actual ghost and not some weird manifestation of a girl that’s in purgatory but is also her own person, woulda made it less convoluted imo. The episode itself didn’t really help either, you already knew she was leaving so it was just a matter of waiting for it happen, like the part where Tsumugi sang as a highlight reel played was basically “this is the part where you’re supposed to cry” to me. Don’t get me wrong, the song was cute and it was emotional, but because I already didn’t care for the plot itself and we already knew she was going away, it didn’t really hit with me.

Oh well, I guess they can’t all be winners, and more power to anyone that cried their heart out to this, I wish I could be there with you. And hey, Tsumugi apparently comes back every summer like summer itself, so no need to stay sad, I can at least appreciate a sweet ending. Comparing this to Kamome’s route, I think I like Kamome’s more as of rn, but even with my complaints I did still enjoy Tsumugi’s route, there was enough goodness in there to save it for me overall, and I’m excited to see who’s up next.

@TheColonel76 yeah part of the issue is they cut the conversation between Old Tsumugi and Summer Tsumugi. Old Tsumugi tells her not to worry about her and live her own life, which is why Tsumugi is back the next summer.

This route was my favorite in the visual novel, so I still cried a bit, but they needed more episodes. I think that with the allowance of four that they had, they did a good job, but that's as someone who read the VN. I can see why an anime only might feel like it felt awkward.

I do think I'm also able to enjoy parts of the plot more after seeing all of the routes. I felt that way about Kamome too, some of the story pieces made more sense. So I'm hoping after everything plays out people will appreciate these first two arcs even more.

@Phoenix_Trite I completely agree that more episodes would have helped, more time with Tsumugi in general would have made the ending hit harder, and yeah that cut conversation sounds really important lol, shame that was cut but I’m glad I use MAL so I can be informed by folks like you.

And you could be right that I might like this plot more after later reveals, it’s very possible, I would be happy if that’s the case but as of rn I’m just not a big fan of it.

This episode was like a celebration of Tsumugi and her life. Truly though, it had a bittersweet feeling to it but also joyful moments.

Shizuka of course remains supportive of her friend along with Hairi. Imo, it did feel like this episode did a lot to make Tsugumi feel as happy as possible. This arc has been full of fluff.

@TheColonel76 ill agree that I don't really like her plot too much. however most of her route was having a fun summer with friends instead of a more heavy plot driven whatever thing like kamome's. The adaptation obviously has to cut most of the hanging out, and this really harms the emotional development for sure. (Kamome doesn't even make an appearance even though she spends a lot of time with tsumu-tsumu and the gang) I have to disagree with the knowing she's leaving thing making it worse though. It's what makes this route work powerfully well. She has limited time left and they are powerless to stop it. All they can do is try to make the best happiest use of the little time they have left.

to me, she was the legend of the missing girl itself. as the old saying goes, 'legends grow from a tiny seed of truth with each telling.' but as things change over time the legend became separate from the facts of the missing girl and grew into a girl itself. the one last living witness (except for the candy shop gramma) the missing girl's friend passing from old age allowed the embodied legend to do what the witness gramma said. live its own life. she wanted a best friend, a lover, companions, and a joyous life filled with fun, games, and precious emotions.

now as to why the original girl got spirited away? i'm thinking a blend of love for her man she planned to elope with, plus fear of leaving home and the unknown that came with running away... caused the lighthouse to become a 'Tower for Rapunzel'... and the original girl 'on the other side' and the stories of her disappearance were the 'seed of truth' for the living legend.

@samsterbirdies I do agree actually that knowing that Tsumugi has limited time left makes it more powerful and emotional, it just didn’t help it for me because I already didn’t really like the plot reveals with her so I was just kinda waiting for it to be over, I wasn’t really sad because I wasn’t as into this story. And about this route being more about having summer fun, that’s actually one of the things that I like about this route and why I’m not writing it off completely, it really did capture that vibe well and the fact Tsumugi is leaving goes really nicely with the end of summer.

Yeah... starting with a song and a vintage in episode 10 means episode 10 feels like it must be binge-watched with episode 8 and 9. Think I'm going binge-watch this again one day.

There are a few cuts where I do wish they have an extra key animator on throughout this episode (or throughout the route) and I feel like they should have given the start more buildup,
and maybe should have done Ao route first to allow that to happen (since even if you tell people there the main mystery element is still around for the viewers + you still have Umi to remind people again),
but all in all it was a decent adaptation, and fortunately the inherrent strength of Tsumugi route is enough to carry the feelings across.

That was lovely with some more buildup of the setting I would have probably cried the whole night.

cutest girl is allowed to sing the silly song, it was cute no doubt.
I only thought it was rude to refer to Shizuku a cow.

@Chad_Snow That is an insane accusation. I implore you to stop coming to these threads to talk like this. I can't comprehend wanting to have that type of discussion constantly.

Tsumugi's innocence is simply because she herself isn't actually a human. It's similar to how other anime characters tend not to be familiar with customs of a different species.

That's the last I'll say on it. I'm begging you to leave the Summer Pockets threads moving forward.

I understand why a lot esp the anime-only didn't feel any connection or interest with Tsumugyu. Heck, crucial scenes were cut on her route.
Kamome's route here in adaptation is bearable since her story isn't that heavy thus, the 4-episode allotment for her route "generally" suffice (but not for me). As for Tsumugyu's, it was utterly rushed, leaving people behind without any attachment. I sympathize to the team Tsumugyus. I swear to the anime-only, her story is rich, full of emotions and will definitely make you feel to protect her. Tsumugyu's route is supposed to be heavily emotional, focusing not only in romance but also camaraderie between the three of them.

We're done with Tsumugyu. Next is Ao and I am already, completely pissed as early as now (even earlier after Kamome's route conclusion) since I am thinking what kind of a mess they will do to the story of my #1 heroine.

Just like we assume Yukito and Misuzu are those two on the beach. Nothing is proven...but we sure do love those stories nonetheless.

Summer Pockets is the only recent game by Key that is truly worthy of being in the same list of AIR, Kanon, Clannad, LB! and Rewrite, imo. Dont get me wrong, Kinetic Novels are fine too, but Summer Pockets is a real classic Key game, worth every hour of gameplay.

@natsukage Well, the original AIR at least makes it explicit, while the anime is kind of drunk at this point. I'm just impressed by the level of melancholy and depression in this novel compared to their other modern titles. However, given what Jun is doing now and how random their future projects are, I'm surprised that even one of their games follows their traditional narratives.

@fakin_alonso Basically, yes, the Tsumugi that Hairi met is a teddy bear. Think of it as a miracle, but the miracle has a time limit, which is the last day of summer. Key often uses this type of thing in their games/anime. Usually an animal, plushie, or robot...that have enough karma can gain sentience on a limited basis and affect the lives of the characters. You kind of have to know the way of thinking of japanese on Buddhism to get some of these situations. But basically these miracles have a limited power and duration: for Tsumugyu, it only last till the end of summer. After which she returns to Samsara.

This was the second route of the show, and it's the saddest so far due to my personal attachment to Tsumugi. In all honesty, I wouldn't even want the main character to get into any kind of relationship with her, and I'm sure it will be even sadder since she likely won't appear in the next route, just like how Kamome didn’t appear during Tsumugi's route. But maybe there’s still hope, as Tsumugi was already on the island, unlike Kamome who arrived by boat.

Despite the sadness, it was funny how Tsumugi’s song called Hairi a bird and Shizuku a cow. Well, that’s pretty accurate, considering there’s no real competitor to her size in the show so far. The episode was bittersweet, with Tsumugi being my sunshine, someone I don’t want to part ways with or say goodbye to.

Amid all this sadness, there’s still the mystery surrounding little Umi, as she seems to know what’s going on and can travel freely to the other world.

Welp, Hairi getting all surprised sleeping together with Tsumugi, though she's still living the matters of the Summer that still exists.

Hairi's idea of dumbing the year down right to the time before Tsugumi disappears, it's all for her, and everyone's in it to give her a Summer break to remember for the final week. It was certainly eventful, right down to the very last few moments with both Hairi and Shizuku when August 31st reaches.

The reaffirmation of love between Hairi and Tsugumi, and the finale of a lifetime's worth of brithday candles using Pairingles cans, it certainly is a moment to remember, aside from her entire story now interconnected with friends and loved ones. Tsumugi's farewell song, which is a culmination of all the things she's done, that ends in quite the sad farewell for Hairi and Shizuku...for a year before she comes back.

Indeed, Tsumugi was everyone's Summer, and she deserved the world. Though Umi being what seems like the fleeting butterfly itself...?

Finally caught up to this point! I gotta say, I liked Kamome more. Not only do I think the progression of their relationship was better but I enjoyed her dynamic with Hairi more. But... this arc's goodbye hit harder :'(

I really liked the idea of celebrating a whole year of events in her last week, it was pretty sweet and creative. A bit of a shame though that it was only a small montage, I feel like it's something that in the visual is given more time to each day.

Tsumugi's song was equally sad and funny. In one part you have her singing about her summer and in another “mugyumugyumugyumugyu” and calling her friend a cow xD.

Speaking of the cow, I really liked Shizuku. Now I wish she had her own arc.

Ao is next. On to the next arc!

Absolute Mugyu!

The Kamome we know is Kamome's self-insert character in the book and now the Tsumugi we know is Tsumugi's stuffed toy, I see the pattern!
Ao is next so im gonna say that cute little weird creature is also Ao (jk this sounds stupid)

Same with Kamome's route, this felt pretty short too and honestly even even weaker than Kamome's but still managed to deliver me the feels.
Im just wondering why Kamome didn't appear in Tsumugi's route? Are the 'routes' connected in chronological order or something? Or the Anime just spirited her away (pun intended).

And who even is the Katou-san that befriended Tsumugi Wenders? I thought she's Hairi grandmother but he didn't really reacted to it? Does she have a connection with Umi-chan given she's Katou Umi? or don't tell me that is Umi-chan herself. IDK anymore lol

Umi-chan again turned into a butterfly after finishing this route, I still wonder what she is and what her purpose is in all of this.

Well then, time for Ao!
