A pretty typical power leveling fantasy story. The skill fruit aspect makes it mildly more interesting. Music is nothing interesting, and the characters serve little purpose thus far beyond advancing the main characters story and are very 1 dimensional. Of course the love interest forgets who the main character is as was foreshadowed in the beginning leading an obvious conclusion that a predominant aspect of the story will be the main char. leveling up to win her over anew or help her to remember with his new found power.

Overall it's the first episode but nothing interesting. Well see where it goes from here.

An Ok start, nothing too flashy or interesting
The character gains a weak ability and then with that power, doesn't die and gets another one, but this led me to question, if it would nullify the poison then why not eat more and gain new abilities?
Will the protagonist do this? It would be interesting to see, as for the ending, I think it was expected that his friend would say that to him, an extra "trigger" for the next episode probably, well we'll see so let's wait for the next one

Damn that's kinda fucked. So you eat that skill fruit and get a skill at random which will determine the rest of your life? It's not even like a Sorting Hat situation where you can at least sort of choose something close to what you want. Light got the worse possible skill for what he had planned, although I guess things worked out anyways.

And Light lost Lena straight away because she's the sword saint, whatever that means, and they had to move far away to start training, despite Lena not wanting to go and instead wanted to stay with Light. I think it would've been funny if she just refused to go and instead ran away with that rare skill she got lol but it looks like that might happen later on judging from the preview. That asshole in the armor looks like they're manipulating her in some way. I mean they straight up slap her in the guild hall it looks like. Hopefully she can escape the church or whatever and run away with Light though. I think it would be fun considering she really did not want to move away and wanted to be with Light instead.

And judging from the post-credit scene, it looks like the church thinks Light is evil, probably because he has 2 skills

Overall good episode! I liked it enough to want to keep watching :]

Church brainwashing Lena so she fulfills her sword saint dutys?

Edit: Dang bruh, that next episode preview. That hero(?) abusing Lena so she can be his? Can't wait to see Light f*ck him up
@YuushaNi Exactly what I thought lol hope that's where this is going. Light will mess that that dude up with his new skill and hopefully Lena would run away. I think it'd be funny since she has an important skill, plus they made her move far away despite her not wanting to

Bro got inmune to the venom of the fruits, bro comes to the conclusion that he has 2 abilites, wow... not that he can eat as much as he want and learn more skills, no no, that he has 2 skills... that type of writting annoys me a lot tbh
@ShikishimaKrile @Adverrito Well... if I'm going to defend the anime (and yeah, it's generic af so it's not like I claim it's great...) I can kinda see where he could be coming from, though of course, it'd be nice if the show actually stated it. I mean, imagine this is real life, and it's your only life. The church has told him that if you eat a second fruit you'll die, and all who have tried have died. Now he eats a second fruit and lives, and Ayla tells him he's immune to poison from fruits. Sure, that'd tell you that you can eat a third, but are you really, really sure? He's the only one to eat the second and live. The statistical sample of "eating a third" is zero. What if the little girl can't "read the fine print?" He got a super awesome second skill, and from his perspective, the chances of dying can't be zero point zero percent...

Anyway, if we're going to be nitpickish about it, Ayla should've died, because she made a stew on "some fruits," so she must have ingested parts of more than only one.

MC: *got a farmer job.*

Wait... this is somehow familiar..

Wow, I guess he could literally eat a lot of skill fruits and not die by eating them again and again, possibly. (but he stopped thinking of eating another skill fruit after getting his 2nd skill... lol)

It's not that I dislike this genre but... to add unnecessary fan services to/in/for heroines
and ultimately destroys her character and personality; their purity tarnished because of it,
is the only thing I hope to not happen to them. For that sole purity is my fan service.

not a bad start, although predictable what was gonna happen to Light, still, it was still fun to watch him show off his skill to those other adventurers who thinks they're all that but can't even beat an ogre lol but i have a feeling Ayla's gonna be my fave character; she's such a cutie & i like the skill she inadvertently gained by accident. now Lena's kinda sus, is she under some spell or she was being bullied so bad by one of her partymates as was shown in the previews?

@Love_And_Forward no, i don't see where he could be coming from since there was no indication that he ever had a notion about eating more skill fruits. that's why it's dumb. also, Ayla isn't shown as illiterate in the show, she just explained what his two skills are in detail. if he doubts her reading capabilities, just make her write down the letters, so he can read it himself. the reason why he didn't do that is because the idea of eating more fruit hasn't occured to him, cus he's dumb, plain and simple.

and if we're actually going to be nitpickish about Ayla not dying, there were no scenes of Ayla ever eating a soup multiple times, so it's just an assumption that she ingested parts of the fruit more than one.

Another seasonal Isekai slop I’m watching with relatively low expectations. Your standard loser MC who wants to be strong to chase after beautiful FMC set up. Lena is absolutely gorgeous though, love her design. Somewhat interested in how Light uses his skills and Ayla to grow.. did get a chuckle out of the adventurers at the guild who talked so much shit running away from the first sign of danger.

Lena’s “you’re mistaking me for someone else” after all the shit Light went thru to impress her at the end had me dying though. I wonder if she’s genuinely an asshole, trying to protect him or some malevolent third party is at work playing with her memory. She kinda gives Ais now.. the designs of the girls in the key visual is really what got me in the door here, not expecting much but we’ll see.

@Adverrito Did you miss the part, "though of course, it'd be nice if the show actually stated it?" Did you miss the part of me putting "reading the fine print" in quotation marks? Do you know what happens when you cook a stew? Do you think you can somehow isolate one particular tomato from the rest and only ingest that one with no traces of the rest?

@Love_And_Forward no, i didn't miss it. ur imagination about him being a cautious man is not a good way of defending the show since it is based on the assumption that he actually had the notion of eating more fruit prior when clearly the show hasn't done this in anyway. if he is that cautious like u say he may be, then maybe don't make the little girl "read the fine print" and just make her write everything then? she doesn't have to actually know what it says, just write it down so he can understand. Light also ingested the soup, but only acquired one skill, not multiple skills, which relates to the scene where he eats a chunk of the supposed fruit from the soup. don't know why u are applying real life physics in the anime world.

The plot is not the most original I've ever seen, far from that, but still, it had its moments and was entertaining at times.

The beginning in particular was full of cliches but it got a bit better as it got closer to the ending, and I must admit I'll keep watching (in big part) because I'm curious about why his childhood friend doesn't recognize him and will be rooting for them to be together.

A fantasy about a young man and his quest to become an adventurer. The anime has a simple proposal and follows different means than usual, considering that here the powers come from fruits.

The protagonist at first glance is pretty standard fantasy. On the other hand, that little girl saves the anime with several cute reactions during this episode. She's the best character so far.

The animation is average, and it has a diverse soundtrack, which is a good sign. The opening and ending are quite engaging but not particularly memorable. In short, the production varies between average and good in some aspects. Perhaps the only thing I didn't like was the dubbing of the characters, it's quite weak.

The episode ends with Lena pretending she doesn't know the protagonist... What the hell is this? It ended well at the climax of the episode

Episode 3/5

@ShikishimaKrile I mean if you get a skill titled "Sword God" then you're probably settled at least for the time. He'll definitely eat more when his current skills don't help him at some point.

Seems very...meh. Visuals are average, but not terrible. Animation is OK, but mostly slideshow combat. Characters are pretty basic. Plot is not particularly original or deep. Not particularly smart MC...annoying that he didn't use more than just one extra fruit once he learned with complete certainty that it wouldn't poison him (appraisal skill said he was immune), but...whatever. I guess they want to power him up slowly, despite him having literally boxes of extra fruits he can eat. It makes sense in terms of pacing, but they didn't support it well in the story. If they had spent 30 seconds making him express fear that the appraisal could be wrong or something at least there would be a reason.

This feels like a 6/10 anime. Nothing to get excited about, but not bad enough to drop. Not every show is a winner, some just fill the time between other shows. Maybe it will surprise me. We shall see.

@Adverrito Okay, the thing is I didn't mean "read the fine print" in a literal way. How does he know her skill is infallible, that she can see everything? He can test it. If she's wrong, he dies. Yes, Light also ingested the soup and only acquired one skill, and that's also nonsense! :D I could probably fansplain it, though. (Monads, or something.)

The bottom line is that I agree with the show being stupid in not addressing the issue. I was just hypothesizing, what could be the reason for not eating more.

Have concerns about Ayla. I'm already reading like five series with a little girl love interest. I think I'm hitting my limit of that particular trope. At least this doesn't appear haremish like the shadow doctor.

Hylianticipated said:
The dude had two giant crates full of skill fruits and learned he’s immune to the poison of all fruits at the same time. WHY he chose not to eat every single fruit on hand at that exact moment is beyond dumb. There’s literally no limiting factor here. If he had tried to eat another and nothing happened only to learn he can only gain 1 skill after meeting some sort of time requirement or other condition, that would make sense (like waiting a month or two between skills, or he has to master the new skill before getting another or something), but come on…I’d eat 100 of them every day. Now that he’s tested his skill and knows for certain, if he doesn’t eat a bunch and get insanely OP next episode I’m dropping.

I mean considering he got the OP skill he wanted on the first attempt I can see for him there's no need. From a practical level it would be good to see how useful double skills are and if there are any downsides. After all we saw skills that aren't just useless but dangerous.

It would be interesting (but never going to happen) if every skill he took on split his power among them. He gets four skills and they're all like 10% strength reduction or something. Then maybe the story would be not about just an OP MC slicing and dicing everything but maybe him learning how to balance power among his 999 skills. I mean from his perspective this is uncharted territory. He just found out that he's the only person who can inhale cyanide and be fine. Maybe the poison effect is strong with every fruit he eats. Who would ever have known? That said this is anime and we all know the answer. He didn't eat more because he can only think two steps ahead and he'll probably eat like 10 fruits by episode 5.

That said looks like I'm in for a few. What can I say:

The start of the story is nothing new and something seen before lol, with the added bonus of a few clichés. Well, it isn't horrible though, there's definitely been worse. I like how the skill waited for him to realize he accidentally ate a skill fruit before getting his body hot. Bro got proficient with his skill real quick too. @superwolfkin that’s why I said I’d drop if he doesn’t eat them all by next episode. I can kind of understand wanting to test it out first, but now that he knows it’s safe he should eat them constantly. I’d be fine if, from a writing perspective, he gets mostly useless skills and too many too keep track of, so he just uses a few at a time and slowly incorporates them; but since he has no limiting factor to acquiring abilities (as far as we know) it just feels like the narrative is stuck in an awkward position due to poor writing. Unless there’s something that keeps him from doing so, every episode should start with him earning a bunch of skills and then trying a few out. I hope it turns out he has to master his new skill before he can get another. That would at least add an element of effort behind his OP abilities without getting out of hand (or worse, requiring him to be an idiot and not do what’s obvious).
