It is amazing I can already tell in a glance this has been written by Ishinashi from his illiterate rant-style attempts at writing. She has such a distinct style

Ah yes, the story of an long lived elf coming to terms with the mortality of humans and tale of a shape shifting rock. How did I not notice these were exactly the same.

They're about as similar as attack on titan and fruits basket are.
@berenboot I mean Attack on Titan is clearly copy of Fruit basket, why are we even talking about that?!

Right? And after careful inspection, I had also noticed another comparisons that untrained eyes might miss - both of these works are animated and based on manga....such a rip-off.

This Frieren manga has literally the same plot as manga To Your Eternity. I dont understand why Japan is so obsessed with copying others works. Amount of plagiarism thats present in Japan manga industry is unbelievable. Nowadays even China is trying new innovative things instead of copying others. There is no originality left in manga industry, every mangaka making shitty generic isekai stories and others copying others works😔

If this much was "plagiarism" then the entirety of Hollywood would fall

It is not Japan's exclusive, but worldwide. Original artworks are rare and influence artists' works. Considering how much anime and manga artists produce, it is expected most artworks reuse story and character constructive elements from few original animes and mangas. It is not a bad thing per se. Sousou no Frieren and Sayonara no Asa ni Yakusoku no Hana wo Kazarou are very good derivative artworks.

So the author of the post thinks that the entire fantasy genre (as well as its trophies) started less than 5 years ago, perhaps underage? someone very ignorant?
Since before all of us were born there have been novels that talk about adventures while traveling with a very ambiguous purpose. A very old example is the novel "Don Quijote de la Mancha" by Miguel de Cervantes. So in order not to look like an idiot to others, try to grow a little culturally, it doesn't cost anything, you already waste time watching animation so time shouldn't be a problem.

i mean, as long as it's not a carbon copy, this still save under the "inspired" territories.

But yeah, i didn't get the hype. This is fine, "fine" in the sense to play in the background while you do stuff, because it's criminally stereotypical. We didn't get to know all of these characters, yet the story treat us as if we're a dweebs that spending all the time watching every isekai-fantasy out there!. I mean, yeah, we are dweebs, but it doesn't take one to recognize all the lazy tropes and preconception this show's build upon.

They wanted to be the girly-version of Mushishi or To Your Eternity, but has 0% attention put in the world building compared to the heavily attended that is the other two. Man, the level of world building in this is not even any inch higher than the seasonal templates isekai that we got on the regular basis.

But i give them a plus for nailing the vibe. Mainly because i am fresh after marathoning the LOTR and Hobbits trilogies, and the scores man, the blatantly copying Howard Shore's scores, evokes something in me.

Most of the people who say that works are plagiarised or copied are making generalized claims based on a few similarities a work has to others. I can't speak any on the mangas you're comparing. But I've seen way too often how people say mangakas copy off of each other when they usually just take inspiration from other creators. It's no different than here in America where you can honestly make the argument that a lot of shows and movies copy off of each other.

I don't think the works resemble each other on a copied level. I have never heard anyone, other than the first commenter on the forum, say that they are similar on a copied level.

If the works were really similar at a copied level, it would be talked about on twitter and people would verify if they are similar or not.

With more and more people using social networking sites, plagiarism is being verified more strictly than it was in the days when there were no social networking sites. In addition, if something is clearly plagiarized, the plagiarizer's manga may go out of print.

Imagine caring about originality than writing

It's better to have a copied story with better writing than have an original story with pure garbage writing

Also, imagine liking To Your Eternity and thinking you should be taken seriously

@RabbitBeardy ABYSS FICTION

It's literally one of the worst pieces of fiction human civilization has ever produced

I refuse to believe any character or even the author was even a normal human being

Even ancient humans had more characteristics of human than them

Dunno, man.
Why is Disney only making live action remakes of their classics and when they try something original it absolutely bombs?

Plagiarism has existed since the first forms of art existed, everything you know and touch or your eyes rest on is copied, "yeah just change it up a bit so it doesn't look obvious you copied" many life forms in their early stages are programmed to copy with mirror neurons.
Cells copy themselves, DNA has developed male and female gametes to copy itself with small mutations, the secret is to copy but try to improve by copying with small differences. Evolution has rewarded adaptation because the environment changes, those who never change are destined to perish when the environment changes in a critical way that won't support their existence.
If ecchi works stick with it. If godlike characters works stick with it, when the environment change and ecchi doesn't work anymore drop it. The goal is having a successful story that can be shared with as many people as possible. Consider music. There are billions and billions and billions possible combinations of sounds and melodies but humans recreate a very small portion of them that they consider catchy. Trying something new is risky, the most successful elements are the result of long evolutionary elimination, you are blinded by your world and reality there is an invisible universe of things that didn't make it. Which is why, for example, men don't have ten legs but two.
