they don't completely ruin an anime i enjoy but i'd be lying if i didn't feel embarrassed a bit for liking something with scathing reviews, like whoops my bad didn't mean to enjoy that

If I'm curious enough I will watch anything. I check out reviews from people who have similar tastes to my own, but I will still give it a try even if the review itself is negative. Shit I watched Mirai Nikki even though all the reviews I saw on it were extremely negative. Hell I watched the OVA as well. Probably shouldn't have though.

Of course not mainly because i don't read them since they're shit most of the time.

I don't read reviews. I already get my entire fill of other's opinion just browsing the forums, no need to get more from reviews. And seeing other people's opinions doesn't affect my enjoyment of anything in the slightest.

I think a well written and researched critical review can provide me with a point of view about a particular show that I hadn't considered before. However the one thing criticism cannot take away is how much people like something in general.

i dont read them in the first place

as they post long ass paragraphs just to satisfy their elitism which most of the time is not a good criticism and it also ruins the experience of some other watcher

as deg said, there's more harsh reviews rather than constructive ones, that's the reason why I don't read peoples reviews. so it does not bother me watching the show or picking up something to watch

Nope, why would they? Unless they manage to change my perspective using valid, constructive, and respectful criticism, negative reviews on a certain anime don't ruin my enjoyment of the said anime.

I think I said this before in another thread, I like reading reviews for anime I liked and anime I hated just to see the different perspectives and interpretations. And I usually do that after already watching the show and building my own opinion of it.
I sometimes forget to finish my sentences.

No, I enjoy what I watch/read no matter what people say, I care about my own happiness.
I do agree that there is more destructive criticism in MAL reviews, which Is why MAL reviews are seen as a joke.

Not really. I read reviews on MAL a lot and I can tell the difference between genuine criticism and someone just being an asshole lol. I know that my experiences with anime might be different than the reviewers on here, and I'm perfectly okay with that.

I don't think so, whenever I look at a review on MAL, I make sure it is constructive and not 100% negative just because you don't like it for "x" thing, then it sucks or the critic says it is a masterpiece , when it can be generic shit. In addition, I sincerely believe that one should not get carried away by what others say, but must create their own criteria as a certain product is consumed, which in this case is anime.

It honestly depends on how sensitive someone is. I don't read reviews simply because I don't want to. I read a couple of reviews tho because I'm planning to make a couple of reviews myself.

No because almost all anime reviewers are fucking idiots.

I'm under the belief that you shouldn't let reviews ruin the experience for you, and if you enjoy something, that's what should matter.
Reviews work in two ways: To influence what people usually stray away from, but also leading people away from something they very well would've liked.
I avoid reviewers, and hey, if it looks good I'll check it out.

And if disappointment comes?
Hey, that's life.
I watch a lot of stuff

I like hearing about another perspective, be it positive or negative, but it's not going to undo the enjoyment or the dissatisfaction I got in my initial viewing. That said, I might tolerate better some of the criticisms I had if they were adequately explained by the reviewer. Some developments feel like bullshit but can be more understandable with the proper perspective.

I'm happy to say that there has rarely been a review/episode discussion post that made me think less of an anime than I had originally thought, but there were many that made me more tolerant of some perceived flaws.

Not at all. Actually I tend to read some of them -although usually after watching, not before-, no matter if I liked what I watched or not. It's nice for me to see other perspectives.

lul reviews of any kind especially MAL reviews. If I've already watched an anime and loved it no amount of someone saying "LOL TRASH" to Show by Rock!! isn't going to make me think differently about the show lmfao. My enjoyment wasn't magically erased by that person.

Depends on the review and what my perspective was when I was watching it. If they manage to shift my perspective then it could potentially ruin a show, but it's really only worked the other way around. I haven't come across a case where a review made a previously enjoyable show unenjoyable.

They used to ruin anime for me a lot and I used to think I was stupid or something for liking an anime that was critically scoffed at, but now I honestly just don't care, I just want to enjoy anime and have my own opinion on it, rather than having it swayed by what other people think.

I do read other people's comments as they provide their opinion over the series they are/have been watching or reading. They also give an idea of the reason they like or dislike the series which may or may not differ from mine. Some comments may serve as a cross-reference of information.

Pertaining if these comments influence me or not, it is obviously not since they are not my opinion. I only read them to get an understanding of other people's point of view.

From observation, some comments are purely ranting and complaints which I usually do not pay much attention to. Just avoid reading those if you get easily influenced by them, or don't read at all. Enjoy what you like to watch or read.

no, I'm eternally thankful for negative reviews. whenever I feel unsure I search for the most negative one. they ARE honest, and usually think along the lines I do. I can decide for myself, but it's always a very good pointer.

Nah, they have their opinions I have mine.
I like to see other people’s reviews once in a while to see different perspectives of animes I finished (both ones I liked and disliked) but I’m not going to let it make me doubt my own interpretation of an anime

I don't even read reviews because 100 people 100 tastes. Just because somebody didn't like it doesn't mean I can't enjoy it. Overall I never check rating of something I want to watch, the only that matters for me are genres, trailer and plot.

No, we all have different tastes. I don't read reviews because if I do, I'd have to check their affinity on their profile. Sometimes you see a popular review but when you check their affinity to you, it's -60%. They like what I dislike, how can that review be accurate for me?

No because most "anime critics" don't have any meaningful critical acumen to begin with. It's not exactly, Idk, Parker Tyler or somebody like that we're talking about here.

Yeah, that's my problem with anime reviews as well. Then again, even an anime expert's review would still be 100% subjective. There is just nothing objective about anime that you could rate or comment on contrary to something like game reviews.
