| Very beautiful. I like Steve Reich's music in general and it complemented the visuals well. The story is up to interpretation, the intention probably being that everyone can see it as they wish. In each scene there's a person who looks at the camera, then looks away. The idea of transformation is present, some characters leaving the scene. The part where the camera turns and the white-haired girl looks at the crowd is particularly striking, because up until now we haven't seen what these characters are looking at. It made me think the crowd could actually be the audience watching the animation. Kind of breaking the fourth wall and the animation showing us watching the girl. And yet it feels more personal than that, for afterwards the girl turns and looks at the camera again, as if you (the viewer) aren't a part of the crowd after all, but more like a companion inside the animated world. And then she smiles and gets ready to leave. Maybe you follow her into the unknown, maybe not. |

| Haunting, but peaceful at the same time. Great visuals; I liked all of the closeups so we can focus on the intensity of the subject's gaze. The pupa thing was scary. Thanks to poster #43 for linking the YouTube video of Shingo Tamagawa describing his work. I thought the video was insightful on why he created this work of art and his commentary on today's animation styles and tendency towards efficiency. |
