People always complain, and whine about how live action anime adaptations always fail, especially in Hollywood, but people fail to see the good ones! The japanese adaptations of Kenshin, Bleach and Gintama were pretty good. And when it comes to Hollywood: sure DBE, Ghost in the Shell and Death Note were really bad, but why do people ignore how good Edge of Tomorrow was!? I thought it was very good!

Yes I know Edge of Tomorrow is a normal sci-fi, while MHA is a battle shounen. I do feel sceptic about this, but I don't wanna whine about Hollywood or live action adaptations in this. GET A FUCKING GRIP GUYS!!

Edge of Tomorrow is probably the only competent Anime/Manga adaption hollywood has ever done and it still did relatively poorly in the box office so even though I agree that it was a good movie, I cant really say that It was super successful.

Not to mention the source material was relatively short and more suited to a movie adaption.

Exactly, Edge of Tomorrow was suited to be a live action adaptation, due to its length and premise, where MHA is at higher risk. I do feel like it's a very dangerous move by Hollywood, however my point was that I think it's stupid that the audience and fans are so pessimistic about it. No Wonder live action anime gets a lot of backlash. The thing that makes me even sadder, is that they ignore the purpose of these projects and the positive consequenses after a project like this succeeds. Otakus are so simple minded sometimes....

This adaptation probably won't be that successful in the box office, like you said. However when it comes to quality, we still have no idea how it will go. It could be a masterpiece for all we know, but the fans.....? I'm speechless...

Why, hollywood, why?

There are things that can work well in animation but not in live action.

I don't blame the otaku for being skeptical and setting the bar very low. Anectdotal evidence would suggest that it will be shit. That isn't pessimism but statistical evidence based on how many live action adaptions there has been, and how many of those have been successful. When you have only one minor success (If you can even count it as one) out of countless failures, people are going to question it.

I agree, that one should keep an open mind but honestly when it comes to something like this, I'd adopt a wait and see mentality, If it reviews well at release then I'd say that it would be worth a look but I wouldn't take the risk on it before then.

I knew this kind of live-action news would pop up some day from BKHA but damn it happened very quick. Don't have slight hope since who knows this may turn out to be second coming of Dragon Ball EvolutioN considering both are from shounen jump..

I kinda wished they would do TV series instead of flim, urge.

Kenshin was a much more grounded film. I don't know much about the Gintama film. But anything in the realm of action/superpowers always bombs all over the place Bleach included looked pretty fucking goofy looking and wasn't immersive in the slightest. Nobody knows how to properly film or edit these films and anything that involves CGI for a majority of it's shots is gonna look bad or not know jack about what the series was actually going for check Ghost in the Shell for that.

And that's not even going into "are they going to americanize this" because then that's taking down a whole thematic of the series and ruin aesthetics but I guess I'll believe it when we see it.

It'll be good in a way cause it will boost my hero academia's popularity. But lets be real,it will probably suck.

If this actually pulls through it'll no doubt kill all respect. Western normies won't bother to look it up and even if they did they'll get turned off about it being anime.

I think with franchises like this, Gundam, and Allita: Battle Angel, live action anime might finally pick up steam and start getting good, especially with Allita: Battle Angel, which looks fantastic from the trailers alone.

Note:it especially helps that Anime is A LOT more mainstream than it was a few years ago.

What is with Hollywood's obsession with making live action movie adaptations of anime series'? Shouldn't they know by now that it's not profitable and will fail horribly?

Curious about what the casting choices will be. I'm not huge on live action adaptations, but I hear the crew behind it is decent. We'll see I guess

I thought Ghost in the Shell (2017) with Scarlett Johansson would place anime live actions on hold for a few years, but with this BNHA movie and Detective Pikachu movie I am very wrong then. Also, anime meets Hollywood? Well...
