It was driving me nuts as soon as I saw magnetite I'm like "get a magnet!" finally Ruri did.

It is interesting this is having me think on how to find different minerals when I had not really considered a methodology before.

Now I better understand why even the simplest ring or necklace can be so expensive if it includes a sapphire or any other crystal—its value depends on the purity, size, and especially the artisan’s skill in polishing it, which is no easy feat. Add to that all the effort behind obtaining the raw product, and I imagine just gathering a few grams could take weeks.

I really liked how it highlights the commercial use of some minerals we encounter in everyday items—from toothpaste to body cream, and on the industrial side, in polishing vehicle paint and even components in our home appliances.

Nagi is an exceptional tutor. Not only does she teach Ruri about geology, but she also instills values, principles, and offers heartfelt advice. All of this will serve Ruri wonderfully if she decides to study geology or something related—she’ll be far ahead of her peers thanks to starting so young.

dang using a magnet to sort out the magnetic materials was actually super big brained. Ruri really getting the hang of this

Ah yes, the only two types of rock, igneous and sedimentary xD

A few pointers:

  • Quartz is a mineral, not a rock. There are a couple rocks which consist primarily of quartz, though, such as quartz sandstone and its metamorphic counterpart: quartzite.
  • Igneous rocks can be plutonic or volcanic depending on whether they crystallise inside or outside the Earth's crust. Volcanic rocks technically form when lava cools down, not magma, and this is not just a semantic distinction. Lava is different from magma in that it loses most of its volatiles to the atmosphere. The bubbles formed during their ascension is what creates the cavities from the first episode.
  • Sedimentary rocks don't just form under water, but that is the most common transport and weathering agent.
  • Sedimentary rocks can also host important mineral resources and gems, such as opal, malachite, rhodochrosite...

Pretty good episode overall. I hope Ruri gets to study thin and polished sections, that's where microscopy really shines lol

Even if you kill me, even if you kill anyone, even if you reset science… There’s always an idiot who will try anything, and the shiny monkeys will inevitably create a technological civilization.

Didn't expect the namesake character would be the most annoying part about this.
Do they really think rocks are such a boring subject that the main character needs to be this loud, hyperactive, and immature for the audience to have something to latch onto?

A bit of a slower episode even comparing to previous ones, but still good. I hope her friends join her, which seems inevitable from the OP.

Being in the lab may not be the most exciting thing ever, but it is very important. Using a magnet like that was very smart, gotta love work efficiency! Also seems we got another new character coming, this should be interesting.

Ruri's getting better at mineralogy.

That is actually very commendable of Ruri as a high school girl to be doing some mineralogy grad work everyday like that. She’s taking it very seriously.

I can't believe this show did exactly what I thought of. In the previous ep I thought "Ok, but research in real life is actually harder" and this episode proved exactly that. As some who did a lot of that in my Master's it captured it perfectly. Research is actually a very long and tedious process. You usually do the same shit over and over again expecting a different result, all of which is very important by the way. Insanity indeed. Initially you're very enthusiastic about it. The end goal of the research is very exciting. It's similar to learning a new skill like learning how to play the piano or drawing but once you actually start doing it, it proves to be challenging. All your energy dries up. I experienced all of that shit.

Tracing backwords to the source was something really new that I learnt and actually pretty smart. I actually love Ruri's character development here. She goes from immature and impulsive to mature and smart. That final shot of her getting better at it was so satisfying and very accurate as well. You can see it from how she holds the spatula and shit. The attention to detail in this show is mind boggling. Watching her use her brains with the magnet was very exciting. She used the knowledge that she previously learnt and applied it practically using the tools around her to discover something new. That is the essence of Science. Rather it's one of the greatest and most important traits of Mankind, Curiosity. Everyone wants better stuff, faster phones etc. This is only done by knowledge from the people who came before you and trial and error till you arrive at something better. I think having a different perspective is more important. Great stuff.

It can't be praised enough but this has to have some of the best animation I've ever seen in all of anime. It's mind blowing how practically every frame of this anime is so fluid. Characters have so much movement. The backgrounds look so beautiful. Just the amount of tiny details alone is just astounding. Reminds me of Kyoani shows. God Tier Cinematography and direction. There are so many different types of angles and shots. Horny included, not that I'm complaining. Not sure how many caught this but in one of the initial shots, the camera goes out of focus and focuses on Ruri using the microscope..... just like a microscope!!! That was such a beautiful shot. It actually made be go wow. Extremely creative.

This is one of those anime which just goes to show any anime can be great no matter what its subject matter if it's executed well.

Wow good of them to show even the boring side of science, I almost thought they would be going on adventures every week!

Studio Bind really impresses me with this show. Now I dont hope MT gets finished because I want to see more MT (I do..) but because I want them to have more time for anime like this!
