one of the worst fight in this tournament. Toppo upgrade + concept of Hakai itself have potential for some creative battle, but it's just shitty shouting and blast.

I'm surprised Toppo got taken out so quickly, I thought he would at least take out Andriod 17 before he falls off the ring. Also in the preview how was Vegeta able to go back in super saiyan blue, didn't he use all his energy up, same goes with Goku, did I miss some sort of information at the start where they said that your energy can be replenished quickly.

It simply goes to show how far Vegetas come since the Buu arc. Piccolo explained it too. Besides, you really thought Vegeta would die this episode?

We'll I don't know what to say. The whole somber final explosion didn't look or feel as explosive as the one in dbz but this time it got it intended purpose done on the enemy for once.vegetas speech was great.

I think vegeta should have just stayed dead after the explosion though

Well, no, it was obvious this show doesn't have the guts to kill someone from U7 off (even if death has no real consequence in Dragon Ball). And it's probably just the way I interpreted it, but Piccolo's commentary felt contrived

They turned a self-sacrificing attack which had an actual impact into a just powerful attack with recoil damage. And no I'm not buying the bs that Vegeta became stronger to tank it because the attack was much much stronger as well if it managed to throw out Toppo. The last episodes have been hilariously bad.

It still bothers me the use of old DBZ footage for the flashback/memory moments, it looks dissonant, they should be redrawn and reanimated to fit Super's modern style...

And are we gonna have a final twist or something to make the show end with a surprising final bang? we're only 5 episodes away from the conclusion and at this point it just looks like U7 is going to survive and let's go back home... that would be just kinda boring.

Also I don't want cliffhangers...I want a properly concluded story...

And your point is? That Vegeta got stronger so he can tank it?
A self-destruct move is still a self-destruct one. Since he got stronger his move also should have been increased in terms of power as well so he either should be dead or at least in a near-death situation. It's just plain logic.

He can control his self sacrificing blow ! If he really used that blow to sacrifice himself he would've been killed along with Toppo , so he would've been unable to keep his promise to Cabba !!

Holy god, the pacing is all over the place this episode. The pointless scenes drag on forever, but the "emotional" scene with Vegeta recalling what he fights for lasted 15 seconds while failing to be inspiring on all front.

The self-destructed move is shoe-horned in with no build up to it whatsoever, and somehow Vegeta survived taking both Hakai and his own suicidal move to his face, yeah right.

Quite a big let down from last episode.

He didn't show no such thing. He was clearly using the maximum of his power since he managed to negate Hakai energy as well. If he tried to hold back, he would have been finished by Toppo's attack.

It seems like an asspull that Vegeta survived self-destruction. Okay, he got stronger since the Buu saga, but it still doesn't make sense.

He can tank more, but his attack got stronger too, which means he should have still died. Fine, he survived because of an asspull, but at least do not make him fight full-power next episode again, after a near death situation. Unless No.17 gave him energy (because he has infinite amount), it doesn't make much sense.

Other than the logic flaws, it was a good episode, and I'm glad we are down to the last 5 people. It's 1v4 now. Next episode No.17 is going to get dropped out probably.

I loved this scene where Toppo blasted Frieza away, and Frieza was flying away in that weird pose, with a completely rigid animation, while screaming. This was definitely the worst animation in this episode.

Toppo got completely wasted after his dominance on Frieza and 17 in the previous episode, also he didn't eliminate a single one of the remaining 4, completely worthless, Jiren is right he's pathetic.
Vegeta's ki can't be destroyed by Hakai energy because main character's plot ki, Vegeta can easily pierce through his Hakai barrier too.
And Vegeta is still fighting in the preview, don't pay attention to what Beerus says, it's not important, this is DBS alright.

That's contradicting you know. You say that he isn't holding back yet he controlled the blow not to kill himself. It's a suicidal attack so if he tries to not get himself killed, it means that he was actually holding back.

Can't hate Frieza. Get's pummeled last episode, comes back to mock the guy, who did it.

Android 17 in DBS is hardly anything like his DBZ version. He went from sadistic little shit, who is overconfident with his power to stoic no-bullshit kind-of-guy. Not sure if the change is for the better, but I like, how he is taking clearly stronger oponnents on by nothing else, than being more skilled than them.

Remember Final Explosion?

But more importantly: Remember how Vegeta holds his arm, when he is fatigued. Now that's the nostalgia fan service I like!

I guess DBS' Tournament of Power is like the video games; Vegeta can totally get away with 1 HP after using Final Explosion.

My consensus for this episode is; the fights are fun, but the nostalgia pandering still bores me.

It's a long-running on-going shounen anime. The animators have nothing to work with, because they're waiting for the story template and direction.

On the other side, people won't stop watching, so they're playing it safe, giving people just enough material to keep them invested and come back next week, when they will use the other ideas they have up their sleeve.

Also budgeting is a thing. If you don't want to waste too much money, you have to figure out how to cut corners, so people are still satisfied with the product.

Business just works that way.

Someone's gotta teach these characters the definition of the word "justice", I don't know why they're making a huge deal about Toppo "casting aside justice" when all he was doing was activating his special power up, something which the characters in this series do all the time. He's completely justified in his actions given that if he loses he and everyone else in his universe gets erased from existence and he wasn't intending to kill any of the U7 team members, even Freeza.

All that build-up last episode about how Toppo was surrounding himself with Destruction Energy made it sound like they had to find a clever way of defeating him but in the end it comes down to the standard "overload him with more energy" method.

I think the reason Vegeta can destroy the Hakai attacks is just because he's stronger than Toppo, this is the first time Hakai was used against a more powerful enemy, actually, no, Frieza and Goku got a taste of it and they also didn't die, probably because the energy used against them was too small.

Toppo with Hakai energy is probably just a bit stronger than without, but what gave him the edge("more edge" i should say) against Frieza and #17 was that he was able to destroy energy attacks way more easily and could tank weak energy attacks without even flinching.

As it turns out, Toppo isn't at Hakaishin level, he just knows a couple of techniques.

Frieza << #17 < G.Frieza < Toppo/Blue Goku < Blue Vegeta < God Toppo < KaiokenGoku/BluerVegeta << Jiren

He's basically trying to kill good people(but without being disqualified), that's not "Justice", he wants to survive knowing that it means that other people will get killed in his place, i don't remember Dragon Ball having justice fighters before, Gohan is probably the only fighter from U7 that actually fits that bill.

It changes the move from a last-ditch self-destruct for when you're completely out of options to an attack that only damages himself some and drains all his energy. The attack itself is fundamentally different now and it means Vegeta died against Buu because he couldn't handle his own power.

Also, if he could survive it but it defeated Toppo, then wouldn't that make Vegeta stronger (or at least more durable) than Toppo? When Vegeta used it against Buu, it was because Buu was far stronger than him and he was desperate but here he just used it as a finisher against a guy he may not have even needed it for.

If he can control it so as to not go down with it, it's no longer a "self sacrificing blow". It's just a big energy burst that tuckers him out.

In effect, it cheapens the time he did it against Buu as an actual sacrifice. They could've had him do literally any other move with the same end result (a new stronger Gallick Gun, or whatever) and it would've worked much better. But this way they could pad the episode out by having the peanut gallery gasp about him using "that move" for fifteen minutes, and pad it even more by using stock footage as well. I wouldn't be surprised if the manga alters this to be another attack.

DekuHero said:

Pretty much. Toppo and Ribrianne are essentially the same character. Just exchange "love" for "justice" and very little changes outside of the specific attacks they use. I've always had a problem with characters that take one concept, like love or justice, and apply it to absolutely everything no matter how little sense it makes.

Remember, the funimation dub has to catch up so you can still watch it again. I prefer the subs, more emotion in the voice but the current dub of the zamasu arc is quite good!
