I find that with some series, i get sort of depressed while watching, mostly with slice of life, romance etc . Not because the story is sad or anything but because the anime makes my life feel almost "inferior". I see these characters with amazing lives and amazing friends, watching all their laughter, pain, and experiences through a computer screen; it makes me feel like all these things are so far away from me. The worst part about is watching these characters live rich and meaningful lives while i sit in my room accomplishing nothing.

I only feel depressed and disturbed when watching Harem animes when the MC alone gets all these hot girls to like him, but the MC's male friend can't even get one girl to like him.

That's why I like Harems where other males not the MC gets their own girlfriend too, as it makes me less jealous at the single male lead.

I also feel offended if the male friend of the MC is abused and mistreated by the girls in such Harem animes, like Sunohara from Clannad.
I am someone that would like to watch a Harem Anime with 2 male leads that each gets their own harem company of girls from the main cast. For example, 1st male lead gets a company of 4 girls and 2nd male lead gets 2-3 girls etc.

It depends on the anime. When I first started watching anime, I was sad that my life wasn't as good as the characters in those shows. Especially the school life, my life was never that good in school, and school for me was never that amazing.

^Such a funny and creative post, I'm dying from laughing.

Last time I got depressed watching something was Yu Yu Hakusho, this is kinda weird, but I don't know... the final scene on the beach and all, and it still is the longest anime I've seen... I think I just got too attached to the characters and wanted more and felt sad that it was over. So not really depressed because of the anime, but because it ended.

The same happens to me, I just can't explain it, It's not because of the story being sad or me feeling inferior, It's just like I see how the episodes just end and it lets me as I was before starting the anime, just bored and looking for another entertainment, It's more about the current anime model, a short "serious" story that ends most of the times in a really forced way and much of the times open for a sequel that you don't even have the security of it being released, the only anime that I've been truly enterteined while watching is JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, maybe it is for being a really old story even if the manga is still in release it doesn't feel overextended because every now and then there are new rules new characters to know about and how do they relate to the old ones, even new universes where everything you knew is quite different, but when it's over? What do I watch, is it that I'm just not made to enjoy anime? or is it that current anime is just not for me?

i would say it depends on how an anime can make me reflect on my life and how i choose to live it the most recent anime that has done this to me would have to be real girl from earlier this year, it massively affected me and made me think about where i wanted my life to go and because of it, i changed my life up made some changes and i am in a much better place because of it

When I was a bit younger, I struggled with depression really badly. There was a time in my life where I would just be watching anime, it could be any anime, happy or sad, and then the depression would just hit me really hard out of nowhere. It would have nothing to do with the anime, mostly just my mental state, I guess. When that would happen, I would usually just turn the anime off and go to sleep so I didn’t have to feel it. That was a tough time in my life, because the one thing that made me so happy didn’t make me as happy anymore.

Nowadays, I’m a lot better, and feel totally fine and happy while watching anime, so it’s all good. :)

Some animes have the purpose to make you sad. Marco is one of the oldest I remember crying. Ima, Soko ni Iru Boku and Tokyo Magnitude 8.0. Violet Evergarden is another recent anime that made me cry a couple of times....

I do, I have no idea why. I don't think its because I think of my life as boring, nor do I think its anything like having an attachment to characters.
Although sometimes when a character dies I do get really sad, obviously because when watching the anime you watch the character develop. So seeing said character die is shocking, but that's not it.
I always feel sad throughout watching an anime as well, and severely depressed after completing it too.
I think it has to do with the roller coasters of emotion, One moment something in the show will bring your hopes up high and your adrenaline going, then its confusing and you anticipate and answer, and then something bad happens and you feel upset.
So in most cases its probably because of the anime being well developed.. lol

Depressed isn't the right term, but I do feel melancholic after finishing an anime, a video game or a movie that has a sad ending.
Who are you and why do you show your hostility towards a complete stranger whom you've not once spoken with before. Are you seriously asking to get blocked? Well, if that's what your intent is; to tempt me into throwing hands with someone as lowly and insignificant as you, then i may grant your wish provided you articulate yourself a bit better when trying to spite a person of my wavelength.

I've got depressed while watching anime. Way to much i'd say.
For example, YLIA. I do not remember crying so much before I looked at that anime.

Maybe just a little sad because of the way some anime series ended, but for the most part. I'm happy when I watch anime! The end of Ginban Kaleidoscope made me sad for a couple of days though.

I do sometimes get depressed, but not because I feel inferior, just because the story touched me. Very often, it's just a specific scene that moved me when I didn't expect it, and it's when the scene's over that I find myself just staring at my screen trying to fight back tears without even realising it. Sometimes it's not even a scene that I felt particularly touched me when watching it, but my reaction afrerwards is what shows me it did and then it's super hard not to feel empty inside. (It happened to me yesterday when watching Akage No Anne.)
But feeling inferior ? No, this is just fiction. It's no use of comparing yourself to fictional characters, real people are generally way different. Don't feel inferior !

Oh, "depressed" is used this way too in english.. I didn't know, I've always heard it in a way to say that you're simply sad. Sorry if I hurt someone then, it wasn't my intent. (I know you weren't talking to me specifically but I know I'm concerned by it.)

I get the depression vibez when i finish a show that was short as fuck but i loved every moment of it, and knowing i won't be able to watch any more of it, knowing it won't have another season or it would take years for the next season to get aired.

Yeah that happens to me sometimes. I really enjoy watching romance anime (it's actually one of my favorite anime genres) but from time to time it will suddenly hit me that the characters are like 15 and falling in love while I'm 19 and I've never even kissed anyone lmao. But also sometimes it will motivate me and make me feel more positive. So yeah... when I watch romance anime I keep switching between ''this is so cute I can't wait until I fall in love'' and ''I will die alone'' lol I also occasionally have a similar feeling when I watch anime about friendship. I mean, I have friends but I wouldn't say that I'm really close to them. So sometimes it makes me a bit sad. School anime sometimes make me feel like I missed out on things while I was a teenager. However, I only get sad when watching those kinds of anime when my mental health is at its lowest. I'm usually a positive and optimistic person so most of the time I don't really feel sad, I'm just happy for the characters :)

I'm kinda undergoing this when watching School Rumble, I got it too when I watched Azumanga Daioh
It's just a feeling of me being sad that my life never went like this, I never has such amazing friends in high school like Azumanga Daioh, I never fell in love so I can't really relate to School Rumble, but this awakens a sadness that "Why can't I fall in love?".There's nothing you can do about it, just wait until time washes it away

I totally get it!!! That’s exactly how I feel! I have researched it and a lot of people actually feel this way after reading or watching a good story or anime. Apparently it’s because our subconscious minds are still trying to process the story and the characters but idk. Honestly you put my exact emotions into words I didn’t know how to express. The thing that keeps me going after finishing a good anime is hope for the future because I don’t know what’s going to happen later on in my life. What sucks tho is that these characters always get the defining moment in their life at such an early age such as high school and it determines the rest of their lives and their happy endings. I just think here I am with nothing even remotely close like that happened or happening to me and I’m already in my twenties. But like I said the thing that keeps me going is hope for the future and maybe someday I’ll look at my life differently than I do now.

There are some cases of feeling down ans sad after anime because once i get attached to the story and the characters i also feel very strongly about them and go along with it intensely. But not in the sense that my life would be missing something great that the story or the characters have. I have a good and meaningful life in my opinion as it is.

It's actually the opposite for me, anime gives me hope and helps me see that anyone can make friends! If you are feeling depressed I suggest reaching out for help as depression can eat you alive if you let it grow.
have you ever tried eating a clock? It's very time consuming.

Yup, sometimes, for example when I watch some "heavy" drama and I'm already not in the proper mood, or when I watch some romance anime with "perfect" couple since the very beginning, showing their daily life and start asking myself what I'm doing with my life. lol
