Can’t wait for the series to reach the part when shit hits the fan and Marcille becomes one of the best characters.

Marcille is not Frieren and I like both elf women very much the way they are.

I like her, as she doesn't fall into regular "...dere" tropes. I've thought to myself how nuanced her emotions are. Happy, sad, angry, scared. With all emotions being relatively grounded. And one emotion never overstays its welcome. Sure, she can be unenthusiastic or whiney at times—but aren't all sentient beings? That cynicism of her character is actually quite important — it's important to have a personality clash with the idea of "eating monsters". We see that, in the world of Dungeon Meshi, eating monsters is somewhat uncommon—therefore, of course some world inhabitants would be grossed out by it. And the fact that she's forced to do it out of necessity and overcome that discomfort drives the plot. She also acts as a slight insert for the viewer—as, real people would probably also be turned off by eating monsters. I appreciate that the Marcille character isn't a tropey typical 'anime girl' character who falls fate to being unnecessarily lewded out. Her presence benefits the story and balances out the main cast well. I thought the freeze frame of her reaction in Ep. 1 was hilarious, and I thought the little arc in Ep. 2 of her wanting to prove her usefulness was cute. Idk what Eps. 3 and onward will entail. But I think the show is perfectly comfy the way it is. P.S. I think it's too soon to be creating hate threads on characters. I guess "3 episodes" is the unspoken threshold for judging stories, but I still feel it's a bit early.

Then it's your lack of critical eye not really the fault of other Trigger shows that they didn't really wowed you. And again I point out that you come with an already biased mentality on your favorite manga being adapted. Again, it's not the best trigger show, it's just the show you think it's best because it has a badge you recognize on it that coincidentally is being adapted by Trigger.

Not saying the other guy is right but it probably will be the best or one of the best based on the original source material. Also it’s going to be hilarious to just see how wrong you are by the end of the series on top of the already huge embarrassment baggage that comes with arguing with someone online named ratliker.

"Marcille is insufferable"

Naaah, she is the only sane person in the party.
Maybe Chilchuck is relatively sane too, but he is too focused on his own duties, which makes him ignore the absolute insanity of Laios and Senshi.

You are not wrong. Her character is trying too hard to be a meme by creating multiple slapstick faces of overreaction that comes across as unnatural. It got tiresome by Episode 3 - she's practically turning into Zenitsu 2.0.

I was looking forward to this anime but Marcille is a pain and also I am extremely bothered by the entire premise that Laios is so relaxed and doesnt show any urgency about the whole situation on saving his sister.

Well, it's quite expected that if you have a cringe comedy, then among the characters there will be a straight man who will constantly find himself in stupid situations due to attempts to convince the cast to behave rationally.

@ned999

Maybe the Zenitsufication of Marcille was making me forget this other annoying issue of this show, about how meaningless is "death".

Why do ppl even care? Why is Marcille so stressed with everything? Why the random Elf girl of the previous episode was crying so shocked cause the amost-death of her mate?

Btw, is Laios's sister really a girl?

I have a particular reason for not liking Marcille's traits.

I genuinely would like to eat all that stuff.

No joke, if PETA ruled the world, i would be a rebel terrorist.

I don't really think it's supposed to be a "comfy comedy about food"? The premise is introduced as one that causes discomfort to some of the characters from the beginning, and it's more of a comedic adventure story than a comedy imo... like, Falin literally got eaten...

That said, as someone who read the manga, it also took me a while to warm up to Marcille, and her character caused me to question the quality of the writing at first, for similar reasons as op. But there will be more context revealed that puts her reactions into perspective. The writing definitely has more depth than it first appears to.

I find her funny and adorable. Understand why some would find her annoying, but she's surrounded by weirdos lol, can't blame her. She and the hobbit guy may be the only sane ones around.

Would've been better if you made a poll about this, @Rob7

I don't think she's insufferable, but I can see why some people might find the yelling tsukkomi trope annyoing if it is just stamped in a bland and repetitive way. Let's hope this is not the case.

Also, I don't know why it's so hard to believe for some people here that comedy archetypal characters can be bad or mediocre too.

If this show was supposed to be a comfy comedy about food, the elf is doing a impressive job ruining it.

At some point she should chill a bit and accept the moster cuisine, but i'm affraid this is a case of a typical japanese cheap comedy where the character is just a 1-gag device in infinite repetition.

I hope i'm wrong, because i've never dropped a Trigger series. It would be disappointing.

I think she's supposed to be insufferable.
@Lolipops She's supposed to be 'normal', if that makes sense. Most people wouldn't like the thought of eating a goblin or an orc. They'd freak out and hesitate as well. She's there as a foil to show that Senshi and Laios are crazy. Most people project themselves onto the MC, so they see any dissenting voice as annoying.

With that said, if you project yourself onto the MC a lot, then this is not the anime/manga for you. The mangaka actually criticizes the MC and there's a lot of nuance about right and wrong.

Soon the anime will show chapter 28.

I rest my case about Marcille. She is still insufferable (about food).

And on the other hand...

I JUST FUC**N LOVE

genuinely think that if you find Marcille to be insufferable, you're probably the annoying person to be around. such a mild-mannered joke that lasts a couple panels a few times a chapter. holy shit.
