My problem with yaoi, or shounen ai is this:

It seems that I can never find a series that doesn't only focus on the romance/sex part, and puts other stuff into the plot too.

My favourite kinds of animes are ones that have lots of action and then romance to add to the plot. If I like a straight up romance anime it has to be very good.

My friend tried to keep making me read different mangas, promising that I'll actually really liked them because they're cute and all. Each one bored me to tears.

So yeah. Nothing wrong with mansex, (except that it's poor fapping material because it doesn't really turn me on) but purely that and it gets boring. Shounen ai is very cute though. For example, I really liked Gravitation beside aside from romance, it had a ton of comedy and the romance subplot to keep me interested.

I feel the same way about yuri/shoujo ai.

And I do actually like shipping yaoi/yuri couples, but it has to be canon! Or at least some indication that they're into each other.

And one last thing: my gripe with yaoi fangirls. I generally dislike when a fandom portrays a character as acting extremely out of character. So it bothers me when fangirls turn obviously straight, hateful, sociopathic characters into lovey-dovey gay guys, although that can still be classified as a pet peeve. Whatever floats your boat, right? As long as you confine that shit to ff.net and don't rub it in my face.

What really gets me going is when someone makes a comment like "Oh that's cute although I prefer Blah x Blah" or "That guy is extremely OOC" and the fangirls go into extreme bitch harpy mode and sic themselves and their posse of fantards on the poor person. Like what the hell? To them, you're not allowed to say you dislike yaoi or a particular character being OOC without being a total homophobe, apparently.

And let's not get started on mpreg. That drives this whole issue into a realm of creepy so colossal I dare not dissect it here. It's like these girls are afraid of women or heterophobic or something. >.> Shit puzzles me.

I am the senpai that notices you.

This should technically be the end of the thread, as it offers an effective (and probably offer some more levels of truth) counter statement to contradict the misconceptions about the topic altogether.

im a guy, and im not into yaoi, just a personal preferance, but i guess ill give my opinion anyways.

if you look at it this way, anime and manga are works of finction, worlds created where anything can happen. you can have huge mechs, crazy sword or gun fights, and anything else that probably doesnt usually occur in real life. people are drawn to yaoi because if is a fantasy of theirs, one where it doesnt usually occur in real life. but, manga and anime can readily provide and fulfill these fantasies for people. its the same way as how some guys fantasies about hot lesbians or any other ecchi things you can think of that dont occur in real life that often (the only time i actually saw some hot lesbians was when i was on the bus and they were sitting in front of me and they just suddenly got it on and i was like ". . . damn" ).

all in all, manga and anime are just mediums in which people use to fulfill fantasies of theirs and this applies to yaoi as well.

Well... it's two hot guys. I mean, normal pairings with guyxgirl get boring after a while. And the fact that a lot of people find it wrong makes me like it, too. ^_^ And, since I'm a dirty pervert of a girl, I love it if there are extra taboos in there, like... let's go with brothers. I mean, what girl hasn't ever imagined a forbidden romance. Brothers are the major forbidden love. Especially twins. Oh god, the twins... Anyway! Those kind of pairings just make the love all the more exciting. And in yaoi pairings, the guys are usually a lot more sensitive to feelings, unlike most real guys. Most girls like sensitivity and don't see it a lot in real life, so they turn to a relationship where they know they will find it. And, let's face it. Girls in anime are annoying little crybabies. I don't want annoying, but if it's a guy that will cry, then I'm all for it. xD Bishounen makes me happy.

And the whole hype about non-canon pairings I find is kinda stupid. If you don't like a pairing, fine. But just because it's non-canon doesn't mean you shouldn't like it. Yaoi is yaoi no matter how you look at it.

I'm female, and I don't like yaoi. I never have, so when my friends would go fangirly over it it was really sickening. Plus the yaoi I have read is insanely trite, dealt with stuff like "he raped me! now I love him!", the top vs bottom thing.

I just don't like it.

I don't like yuri either because I always find too many school girl stories, etc.

In general I do not read smut.

Female here, and I personally enjoy both yaoi and yuri.

To me it isn't the intercourse or "zomg two hot guyz nekkid together" part that makes it interesting to watch/read, it's the whole "forbidden love" scenario. The fact that it had a twist (guy/guy or girl/girl rather than guy/girl) just makes it even more interesting. Truth be told though, there aren't many yaoi or yuri series for people like me as most of them only seem to exist to offer as much fanservice as possible rather than telling a good story. Pity.

I'm not very much into the worlds of fan art, fan fiction and shipping (for my own sanity), so I'm not really exposed to these batshit yaoi fangirls I hear so much about, thankfully.

I honestly don't see why people love it so much, or yuri.

I mean, it's all fine if you want to be gay... it's your life, so go for it, but READING about it, or even worse, watching it....I'm just not comfortable with it

I'd like to know why people love it so much as well, since I'm pretty much the only one of my (few) friends who watch anime, that doesn't like it.

Ah no, non-canon seriously pisses me. If the author said X and Y are supposed to be together, we just accept it. The characters belong to their creator and they have the right to make them straight.

It especially pisses me when the non-canon is just some half-assed fanfiction written by a virgin 14 y/o that has fantasies with their dog.

I really wanted to know. If, your a boy and you like Yaoi give me your opinion, too! I'm not hear to judge, I just want to know the facination with it.

Thanks in advance!

P.S.: I know of the L and Light; Suzaku and Lelouch; Ciel and Sebastian & Naruto and Sasuke . Are the ones I know or heard of. Please tell me of any other pairings or what makes a pairing.

I'm not a fan of Yaoi or Yuri.

well...
i like yaoi because i like men. I like pretty and handsome men, and yaoi delivers that to me. what makes it appealing?

generally, its considered taboo in most countries so you have the whole "forbidden" which is ALWAYS attractive to girls. Plus, inevitably, yaoi is really well drawn and the the characters are very attractive.

what makes a pair? usually its really good friends or really hateful enemies, like as you mentioned, l x light.
there are litreally thousands of pairings. think of any anime you've ever seen that has 2 guys in it, and i guarantee you, you will find a pairing of them some where on the internet.

my favorite pairing is edward elric x roy mustand from fma <3

if you want to know other pairings, look up ANY yaoi club here and i guarentee you will find some.

I'd presume girls like yaoi for the same reasons I like yuri. 2x pretty > 1x pretty oh and also the forbidden love perspective.

I also find that the romance in yuri series is better than in normal series. And I tend to like the characters more.

In most normal series the male lead is often:

1.a loser
2.a jackass
3.total douche
4. booring
5. retarded
or 6. all of the above.

there are exceptions though.. kimi ni todoke comes to mind.

Few like it when confronted. In fact most people I know and talked to never met an homossexual, have the dream of getting a gay friend and are creeped at live action, aka porn. I don't mind it at all.

My reasons:
1. two HOT guys
2. the idea of the two HOT guys getting it on, without another female in sight to compete with me should I decide to throw myself in between

I think these are the same reasons why most guys like lesbian action. It's about the eye candy and zero-competition.

Though i'm not a fan when the uke is a girly looking cry baby. Then it just makes me feel like i'm watching a guy get it on with an underdeveloped girl.

I'm not fond of fan fiction either.

It's like with a lot of guy otaku. Some like the 3D, some think it's Pig Disgusting.

Also, gay porn's representation of homosexuality is a lot different from that of yaoi.
The manga equivalent of gay porn is Bara, not yaoi. The majority of it at least.

I have a friend I hang out with who is little into 2D anymore, and spends most of her time with Coat West material. Which is gay porn. So yes, this is the case some of the time.

Yaoi in real life is a rare thing. I do know yaoi fans at conventions often like it to some degree. But this is quite different from the majority of what one might think of "yaoi in real life", majority of the time, it's not gay porn, lest it be some emo twink stuff or coat west like my friend is into. Think...Visual Kei fangirls who like pairing their favorite Japanese half model half musicians.

Most people on anime heavy communities though are more on the side of "Ewwww 3D men Pig Disgusting".

Twink porn is basically the IRL equivalent of yaoi. I have yet to see very much bara, but it strikes me as an animated form of bear... I'd be interested to see how many women watch twink porn, incidentally, to see if it has the same trend as yaoi.

I go both ways to begin with, so manly woman and womanly men, manly men and womanly women are all OK romance wise. 'tis all good

P.S.: I know of the L and Light; Suzaku and Lelouch; Ciel and Sebastian & Naruto and Sasuke . Are the ones I know or heard of. Please tell me of any other pairings or what makes a pairing.

Kyon x Itsuki is my favorite. It's also semi-canon (watch haruhi-chan).

Bishounen pairings!
For hetero, the romance is good for some. But for yaoi, there is something in it that hooks me up. The blushing and the femininity,oh and add the body! Fckr, they have good shape.

Also, what do you mean by "underdeveloped girl"? There are so many angle in which to interpret and respond to this. It's clearly on my mind now and I won't be happy until you further explain. This sounds interesting.

I love Yuri pairing, but only if the character have good bond to begin with.

e.g. My favorite yuri pair, Nanoha and Fate, although nothing have ever happen between them... (At least on screen) The believable possibility of it is strong.

If it doesn't make sense, then I'd hate it...
e.g. If Tessa and Kaname from FMP get together... yeah, I can't even imagine they might blush because of each other.

As for Yaoi... I only read if if I come across one and think "Why not?" I read it for the lulz, I remember reading one Doujin Manga where Sakura (Naruto series) transform into Naurto and get close to Sasuke, then Sasuke hugs Naruto(sakura) saying "Where have you been, I was so worried"

Sakura never left her room again.

LMFAO.
