I'm certain Erika is a pretty common name so maybe I'd name my child Erika

Hopefully Erika would grow up and become a detective and solve murder mystery

Nah. I feel like it would be something I would regret later on and my poor kid would be the one paying the consequences.

Japanese names, no, since I am an American and i have a European last name. An English name might sound okay, like a Fullmetal Alchemist character or a Cowboy Bebop character, but i would never blatantly name my kid after an anime character.

i don't know, i would if any of the character sin my favourites had a normal name, i'm of course not going to call someone cinnabar or fyodor or bondrewd or kusuriuri or sensei, if i move to japan i might call them mafuyu or oreki maybe, or even makishima(probably confused surnmaes and names) if i don't move to japan i can always call him jhonny and jojo as a nickname, but i wont do that ebcause i plan on being a decent father to my son, that i don't plan to have at all, i'll just buy a rock and call it cinnabar plus a bunny and call it nanachi

A bit off=topic, but this post made me remember that A LOT of people named their daughters Daenerys or Khaleesi.

I wonder if they regret it...

And yeah, i would name a kid after an anime character, but only stealth names like Mei, Dio, Stella (not to be confused with Satella)

Naming a girl Megumin would be funny for about a week
I think I don't know wtf I'm doing. Maybe. Probably.

Maybe, depending if it was a good name to have in my country and if my partner agrees/likes the name.

Has a 8.60 mean score

F for all the little Daeneryses and Khaleesis out there. I personally wouldn't name a kid after a character in an ongoing series, especially one like Game of Thrones. Unless it was something like Jon, because you could totally deny the GoT connection later if you turned out to not like the character.

You could probably name a girl Megan and nickname her Megumin, at least at your home.

I know I keep necroing this thread, but I wanted to say that the other morning I was in my room watching Claymore, and my dog Mr. Tadakichi wouldn't quit barking so I went to see what it was and he had a kitten in his mouth. I rescued the kitten and named her "Priss" after the character Priscilla, who was on the TV at the time.

She scratches a lot while playing, but otherwise hasn't been like the terrifying human guts-eating monster that was her namesake.

Looked through the Claymore wiki, I actually have the same name as a very minor character. If you want an English name, Claymore has a lot of good female ones. Some others sound more Italian or Greek, like Luciela, Raphaela, Galatea, etc. "Galatea" was the name of Pygmalion's statue in Greek mythology.

I live in America, so even the Greek-origin name "Cassandra" wouldn't be out of place.

"Miata" is better known as a type of Mazda sports car, so maybe not that one for a little girl.

Some of the characters were real bitches, so I'd kick them off my potential list. (Looking at you, Roxanne.)

Like nobody in that series has a Japanese-origin name... which is probably why I find them so easy to remember. I've seen four seasons of MHA and still can't remember half of the characters' non-hero names.

EDIT: part of the reason I posted this was because I wanted to show off my new kitten

I don't want to give my children some kind of strange name. Now Japanese names might sounds very cute for us weebs. but for general folks it might sounds strange. I do love anime and Japanese culture but I don't want to link them to my life. That's my opinion for this topic .

Why would i hurt my child like this? I mean tbh, I can dirty myself and become a weeb and do something like this. But after I die, I know this child has to wear this name until the end. Would be a big troll move, but hell no

If I ever have another one...yeah, I'd give it consideration especially if it was a girl.

Kanna Kamui (Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid) first and middle name

Hana Isuzu (Girls und Panzer)

Yukari (also Girls und Panzer)
Chise (The Ancient Magus' Bride)
Kase (Kase-san and Morning Glories)

BTW, although my nickname KEN isn't Japanese (short for Kenneth), I like to tell people it is. :P

Also, I have a friend who named his first-born after his WoW character so, yeah, there are people I'm sure would name their kid after an anime one.

Depends if I end up really like the character name and they have a huge impact on me. But it has to be something cool, not a (forgive me) basic Japanese name. I want their name to be unique.

Although it can be done sensibly, no, I would not.

But if I were to, I would choose a name that would fit the country the child is born in (as in it is a common name that would not bring attention to the child or make people associate them with anime).

The names Sara or Alice, for example, are super common in my country. And people would be quicker to associate Alice with Alice in Wonderland than with Pandora Hearts. Disclaimer: I never saw Pandora Hearts, just using it as an example

Yes. IF I decided to have children, my chosen names are:

if boy: Rui Seijuro (Rui: son of Misaki & Takumi; Seijuro: Akashi's first name)
if girl: Seiryn Lee (Seiryn: from KnB school/team name Seirin; Lee: not anime, but it's the middle name of Sheldon Cooper from The Big Bang Theory...tho it could also be Li from Cardcaptor Sakura, as Li Shaoran was my first ever anime crush).
still alive
