I definitely would whitelist MAL if it weren't for the constant redirection, I can't even navigate the website properly anymore (with or without adblock), it's unusable, I might as well just switch to kitsu or anilist.

I'm never disabling adblock on your site to support you guy but a new ad of Dare Chips is driving me mad. It's a really short video and each time it restart it move my page so the add is on top of the screen. This is a real pain every time I'm reading synopsis, comments and almost anything else. Please take a look at it.

I'll disable add block again in a few days hopping that this problem is gone...

Thanks for taking time reading this feedback and have a great day!

I've disabled adblock for a while now, but when I start seeing bad ads and annoying redirects I'm done.

I had enabled it again on my Phone because the redirecting Ads pissed me off. Wouldn't have minded to see some Ads, but not when I get constantly redirected and honestly, it feels too bothersome to report them or rather the URLs I'm getting redirected to.

Wouldn't mind to support MAL with that MAL Supporter Thing instead (even if I block the Ads, anyway), but then there's no Payment Method I can use (like Paysafe Card). So meh.

So,
I am using MAL for years now, just to be informed about interesting Mangas and Anime.
I am not a total Otaku, I watched probably 20-30 Animes and have about 80 Mangas at home, you see I am not the typical User here.

So recently I created an account here because I use this site more often.
What I noticed when I disabled Adblock was, that the Servers for the (german?) Ads are pretty bad. Even If I am at work(At a Internet and Server Provider where the Internet in the office has about 20Gigs per second) MyAnimeList needs to load with Adblock disabled about 15 Seconds till all the Ads are loaded. While with Adblock it's less than a second.

When I am at home it's worse.
Without Adblock: ~45 Seconds
With Adblock: ~5-6 Seconds
(Of course I can use the page earlier, the 45s are just the time till the Ads are loaded correctly. the time till use is at home with adblock about 2 seconds and without adblock about 20 seconds. Still pretty annoying, because its 20seconds for every link I click...
Even Youtube loads faster)

Because of that I won't disable Adblock for now, I'm really sorry but yeah...
Maybe it's only in germany that bad...

The second thing is, that I would really like to support you by being a MAL Supporter, but as Noboru stated, it's not possible to pay.
Especially here in germany literally noone has a credit card, they are pretty unpopular here.
I already asked pretty much every friend and familymember for a CC but no one has any.
Bitcoins or normal Bank Transactions would be nice.

My last problem is that even though I would pay that much, 2,99$ is pretty much per Month.
I don't know the server hosts in the US, but here in Germany I get a server to host all these for about 50 to 60€ a month.
Given that 3$/Person it would only need about 20 people to cover the costs for the server itself.
I can't believe just 20 Persons here are having this plan!?
But yeah, without Adblock you would make about 9000$ from Ads, now with Adblock only about 1800$ per month. So it's a big loss, I understand that. But maybe you should create some plans for less money...

Animes are generally for younger people. I have a job beside highschool, but most people don't.
Or maybe you could make an "Ad-Account"

What do I mean by Ad-Account?
If a User registers you create a function wich detects Adblock(not that hard).
Now a User with Adblock can watch some ads and has to click on it. For that he gets points.
So you could say for every Week you are using Adblock you have to pay 10 Points.
If he has no points left but Adblock enabled, he gets an error till he has enough points or disabled Adblock.

Because they have to click on the Ads you are making more money, and a user could click every week for 5 minutes or so on ads in advance to browse an entire week ad-free. I think that would be awesome, and it's definitly possible.

I'm sorry to crush your dreams.
Noun: Anime m (genitive Anime or Animes, plural Anime or Animes)

In addition you have to write capital on the beginning of a sentence.
And because Anime is a foreign word from Japanese, it's a proper noun, so you write it capital too.

Seems like there are complains of this too but seems like the issues never resolved.

get the adblock element hiding helper and your mal page can look like this

Yep, that's quite nice. But since you posted it here the Admin could find a solution to it soon...

Doubt it. You can't 'kill' anything they try to prevent for adblockers to use MAL. Don't you think Google has tried with YouTube? lol.

The advertisements might be leaking memory. Do they by any chance change periodically? I had a chrome process using more than 1 GB of memory, with the MAL tab being responsible for at least 800 MB of it.

My complaint with ads at the moment is how it makes the webpages load that much slower.

A suggestion: Make ads rendering separate from the main content of the website, so that content gets prioritized over ads loading.

For most of my time on MAL, I've kept ads enabled because I agree with your ad policy and appreciate how you guys use ads. However, I recently re-enabled it due to ads which cause my page to continually send web requests (which means it never fully loads).

These ads were specifically on the Shokugeki no Souma: Ni So Sara OVA page, if that helps.

I've disabled my adblock since you first put in the "no one likes ads" ads, as I'm very grateful for this site being a free service & am happy to support it. Over the past few months though I've began experiencing overall lag in the Chrome browser if I would remain on a specific anime page for an extended amount of time. This is a minor inconvenience, but can get become really annoying if the lag starts while I'm in full-screen mode, since it becomes extremely slow to switch out of full-screen and close the anime tab. The other more serious complaint is when using the Anime search tool in rapid succession (which I do very often to find new animes), the whole tab freezes forcing me to close and reopen MyAnimeList. These two problems for some reason have become more frequent recently & reached the point of me having to enable adblock while searching for anime (These issues, obviously, don't occur while adblock is active).

I have a small suggestion that I don't know if it has been said (25 pages of posts at 5am is long...), but I know that there are affiliate links or codes for online shopping? I could see people on this site using services like PlayAsia, JList, RightStuf, etc? I've, personally, never heard of MAL having one (I could be dumb, and there could be one, but I've never SEEN it), but I would use it when I import games from PlayAsia (I'm looking at you, PS3 Tales of Verperia), and I like RightStuf a lot too (I've only really browsed their goods, but it's definitely somewhere I think people who use this site would go to). I have SEEN ads for goods on a website that sells anime goods, but I would much rather have a link or code. It's more convenient if I shop at these places often.
I know that this doesn't fix the problem, but it might be able to take some pressure off the people who use adblocking add ons or internet browsers.
The main reason I use adblock is because I'm honestly paranoid about ads. One time I clicked one when I was little, and I messed up a computer.. I was scared.
I have seen some rather questionable ads, and when I'm on my phone, sometimes I get redirected to one of those scam-y looking sites, which I have told not to trust (The "you're the x number visitor here. Click here to claim a prize" type ads.). I also get paranoid when I get tracked and cookies and stuff....

CreditCards aren't very common here and i haven't one so i disbled my Addblocker a year ago. Since then pages on this site are constantly loading. This is realy annoing, but still i eep it deactivated.
But now it isn't only reloading. Aftre some tome it is redirecting me to another site:

Well now you included PayPal. When i triyed it to become a MAL supporter PayPal says to me "(translated) Your PayPl-Account is registered in a country wich doesn't allow automatic payments. Go back and chose another way of payment".

I realy wan't to ssupport you and pay. But as for now i can't and i was forced to re-enable my addblocker. Sorry.

I don't meant credit card for Adblock. I want to support mal and the only way is to use credit card (i don't have one) or PayPal (not possible in germany).

So the only way to support was to not use adblock, but the ads her are not tolerable. After some time it redirects me to another Site.

Also thank you for all you do to provide this service :)

• What is your biggest complaint with MAL's advertisements?
The advertisements are crashing my browser. I think it is a script that is in them or something, but if I have 3 or more windows of MAL open, my browser crashes. This is specific to MAL. It seems as if the page never finishes loading. Blocking the ads using uBlock origin is what allows me to open up multiple instances of the page. I use the Firefox browser.

My main problem with MAL ads is that they never finish loading properly. For example, I'm browsing a forum thread, and two minutes in, an ad suddenly pops up in the middle of the thread, bumping down the text body half a page. And often the page itself just keeps loading for minutes on end, using serious processing power for God knows what. This issue is specific to MAL, and I have reasonable internet access (48 Mbit/s). I'm EU, by the way.

I basically want the ads to stay outside of the content, and load properly without causing jitter and eating resources minutes after the page claimed to be done.

I tried disabling adblock on MAL for a few days but ended up having to re-enable it mostly for browser safety and several other annoyances.

What is your biggest complaint with MAL's advertisements?
Many of the ads are malware and overlay the page with invisible buttons to trick you into clicking them as complained by many other people. This includes popups to fake PC cleaning software, fake virus scanners, and fake microsoft windows update links. These popups are also difficult to close, often recreating themselves 'unless' you click yes or sign up for whatever they offer.

On one occasion, I clicked a hidden overlayed ad by accident that created a popup that then went on to consume all of my system memory up to 16 gigabytes. Windows gave me a 'running low on system memory' error. I had to kill Chrome in the task manager to gain control again, so I do not know which ad link created this, but I do not recommend anyone trying it.

The ads are constantly loading or reloading and never finish. This makes the webpage never fully load.

Which kind of advertisements do you like to see? And conversely, don't?
Ads should not be intrusive.
Ads should not play audio or video.
Ads should not be misleading or try to trick you into clicking them. (fake buttons, invisible overlays, etc.)
Ads should not change size or move in any way.
Ads should not link to malware.
Ads should not use flash or extensive javascript

I would prefer ads be on the right side of the page, with the current layout of the website.

After a long ass time with my adblock turned on, I tried disabling it just now to see if the problems are still there. It seems that the problems everyone here is complaining about (and has done so for months) still haven't been fixed...

My specific problems? Videos slowing down the page and sometimes the whole browser, videos that show VERY different colors and being extremely distracting with flashing text, ads showing gross and repulsive images (An example: "Here's how to remove toenail fungus" with an image of, well, take a guess) and the list goes on. This website is probably the worst website I know when it comes to what ads they display. I don't think the admins / owners of this site gives a damn about us and just wants to make money, even if it means p´ssing on its users.

Adblock is now enabled once more.

I disabled ad block for this site because I think this site is well made and provides a good service so it deserves to be white-listed. However then I noticed the intrusive flashing banner ads drawing my attention away from the page, I figured that was bad but just barely acceptable, then a video popped up in the bottom right with a full video ad for a game, so I immediately re-enabled adblock. My apologies, I'll consider white listing again sometime in the future.

I had disabled adblock but lately every time I load a page it scrolls me immediately to the ad section. When I scroll away to read content on the site, it throws me back to the ad section. Occasionally it actually sends me to a new page. I can't even view the website. These is the kind of obnoxious ads you get on a pirate site and they are unbearable. Adblock will be reenabled until these unprofessional ads are removed.

The reason I use add block is primarilly because my PC is garbage. Anything that can get in the wa does get in the way. Ads are no exception. I do intend to become a MAL supporter as this site is just absurdly useful for me to keep track of my anime and manga. But at the end of the day. I dont work and dont make money so like. Not like I can at the moment. Occasionally I do turn it off but thats when ive had a stupidly good day. So yeah. Its out of neccesity that I use Adblock

So like... my adblock wasn't working and MAL's ads were getting through. It was using up 700 to 1200 MB of RAM per tab! I had to update Firefox to get Adblock working properly again (they just dropped a huge update), and now the site is working fine. But seriously, that means MAL is basically unusable without adblock. And you expect people to whitelist you or support you to be ad free? All you have to do is take a look in the specific ad complaints thread to see nothing has been fixed.

You know, I was going to stick with this site, but... after seeing just how bad it is I'm seriously thinking about looking for an alternative. Considering this site is largely built by its own community, I'm surprised that the community hasn't just packed up and made a new community elsewhere.

EDIT: 1000th post. Woo.

I'd disable adblock if the ads on the site were so small that I couldn't see them. I'm not going to click them anyway, advertisers are wasting their time, they could just give the site the money they hope to make with the ads, because it's certainly not going to happen the other way around. The ads are huge, distracting and ugly, also don't feel like clogging up and possibly crashing my browser. Until I'd see some unintrusive mini-ads, ad-block will stay on.
