Is it just me or this episode felt too rushed? I think this could be better if it is at least 2-episode length.

The previous episodes' pacing was much better than this or maybe it is just me.

I have some doubts about what happened in this final episode and I hope someone more expert about the Nier-verse can answer my doubts. The reason why 2B and 9S are shown in the final "alive" is that the pods had their backup "minds and memories", but what about the bodies? I'm talking specifically about 2B, who had a hole in her stomach. The only option I can think about is that up in the bunker, when they were "reborn" in the past battles, there were no bodies, but just data backups which recreated the body (just as it happens with their swords when they pop up from nothing). It could make sense this way (also considering that A2 is shown with long hair, meaning they chose a backup from a specific time and not the "original prefabricated body") but now a new doubt is born: why couldn't the pods do this before? What kind of "payment" is required to do that, if they never did (for example when 2B died)?

Thanks to everyone answering.

Awesome battle! They reallly went all out on the annimation and choreography here! Not entirely sure how we managed to get a happy ending (for 2B and 9S at least) after all that happened but I'll happily take it! Ever since we learned about 2B being ordered to kill 9S countless times, all I ever wanted was for the two of them to get to live happily ever after together. Thank you 042 and 153 for making this possible 🫡 I do wonder if this was an anime original ending or an ending from the game. Also, who was that girl with A2 at the end?

This cour has been the adaption from a game I've ever seen.

As I've only play Nier:Automata many years ago, my memory of the story isn't up to par. But I felt this adaption did a pretty much prefect job creating a new different ending, without ruining the characters or setting. It would have been easy and frankly lazy if they just plainly reanimated an original game ending, so kudos to A1, Yoko Taro and everyone for taking this gamble with the Alternative [E]den ending.

Adding extra character development to Pod 042 & Pod 153 was a welcomed surprise, as well as teasing Accord (who I've never heard of). Personally, this adds more depth to the Nier universe, with leaves me intrigued to learn more.

While a reincarnated ending can be somewhat cheap ending, it was a nice change of pace from all the death throughout the cour. I'd never thought to see a happy ending for 2B, so I'll be lying if I didn't say I loved this ending.

Good to see I wasn't the only one here who got Attack on Titan S3P1 PTSD when the credits started glitching.

Surprise "happy" ending of sorts. Having half the finale being focused on the Pods was unexpected but I still liked what they tried to convey with them and their decision of going against the YoRHa project. Not to mention it was already hinted in previous episodes that they might try something in order to protect their Android companions.

Overall, really enjoyable second cour after an already solid first one. A2's backstory and development throughout the cour were truly engaging and the conclusion with 2B and 9S receiving a second chance to be together, though a bit corny, left me feeling quite satisfied.
Gotta say tho... that 9S turning into a half simp/half edgelord after 2B's death had me rolling my eyes quite a few times.

8/10 - Pod 042, unexpected MVP of this cour. Will make sure to give him infinite pats once I play the game. What a good boy~

Godly season and I think the studio redeemed themselves. Also who is this lady at 23.36, I don't remember from the game . Is she anime only character or a character we will see in a future entry of the series ?

Okay the two PODs were kinda the goats and I didn't expect that, now project YoHRa is over, seeing 9S and 2B waking up at the end was moving... loved A2's moment as well.
Really good 2nd season and it comes from someone who didn't like the 1st season much and thought it lacked something but I would say this 2nd cour improved every parts of the 1st one, clearly makes me want to play the game now.

9/10 overall. Really interesting changes and nods from all the Drakenier material that I was happy to catch. However, I would not recommend people who haven't at least played both Nier games to watch this anime, since it feels like a love letter to the series as a whole like Automata is a love letter to Gestalt/Replicant.
That said, I was disappointed on the lack of Emil content in both seasons, since his questline is really important to me, but they probably wanted to push him aside to not take the spotlight away from the Automata protagonists. Still, it's a shame.
Also @OniiJiiJii , I think you're right. I watched it with the english dub and I'm 99% certain Ray Chase voices Pod 567 by the sound alone.

@deg Accord is a character from Drakengard, the "kind-of-but-not-directly" prequel to the NieR series. Her name gets thrown around a lot in both Automata and Replicant as a sort of reference to the series' origins, so I suppose they decided to give some fanservice to fans of Drakengard as well in the adaptation.
@Benzux I was about to ask who she was too haha. It's been a while since I've played Automata and Replicant. Gotta replay those someday.

You know, after playing the game, I've come to the conclusion that this is a really solid adaptation. When it was announced, I didn't know if it was actually going to translate well into anime format since the way the story is told works better as a video game, especially in the ending. But this anime really impressed me. This recent trend of adapting games into shows actually works if producers really know the material and take there time with it. Helps that Yoko Taro basically worked on this too. I enjoyed the ending, and I love how A2 is a bit more fleshed out here vs the game, since you had to mostly play some of the side quests to get more of her backstory. I still HIGHLY recommend playing the game since it's the definitive way to enjoy the NieR story in it's entirety.

pod 42 is the mvp so the pods have backup memories of all androids then and they revive 2b, 9s and a2 a somewhat happy ending

meanwhile the machine lifeforms will go to another planet they too have backup memories of their dead leaders like pascal, eve, and adam

this shows moral lesson is to always have backup data lol

btw who is this?

The best adaptation from a game to an anime so far. I expected absolutely nothing back when the Nier anime was announced but props to A1 they really knocked it out of the park. The animation and ost were phenomenal and I think they did a pretty decent job picking and choosing what parts to adapt and what key points of each route to show.

I thought A2 especially got a nice amount of time and I ended up liking her even more after the anime despite her already being my favourite character beforehand.

9S going completely unhinged at the end was pretty funny

The Pod stuff was magnificent. Maybe the best part of the entire adaptation.

I absolutely loved how important role Pods bestowed upon themselves in this final episode! Their acts were crucial to reach maybe bittersweet, but still somewhat happy ending.

Beautiful finale. A fitting ending for the whole second part of this anime.

Part 2 was way better than the first part in pretty much every aspect. Not that Part 1 was bad. It was okay, although still inferior to brilliant Part 2.

lol this was probably one of the most painful animes I watched this year. It was super uninteresting and cliche, specially the virus drama. I really was trying to enjoy this but at some point I couldn't careless what was happening.

Good to note that I don't play the game, but 2B is super famous and she... simply put: looks so cool. And so I really was looking forward to this anime, but oh boy, turned out that this was very disappointing (plot/story wise; and the pace was pretty strange... was this Suzumiya style?! I wondered lol).

9S was also annoying most of the time; edgy.

2B, art design and the few fanservice scenes were the saving grace for some time. 2B basically got out of the anime after she was finished off by A2.

@qxoa they can go completely original with another season considering Accord interfered with the timeline but i think the story would be kinda shallow, just pray for NieR replicant adaptation
