What's "Normal" ? somehow having no hobbies or interests beyond earning a paycheck and raising a family?
how many people out there are well and truly like that, and why would anyone with a remotely active mind ever want to actually be as such?!?

My watching anime does not impede on my life. I would rather genuinely enjoy something, and make connections through that, then to pretend that I give a shit about whatever is popular right now, to fit into what is mainstream.

This ground is soiled by those before me and their lies. I dare not look up for on me I feel their eyes

Op, it's current year. That "normal" person you see walking around listening to music, is probably listening to anime songs and has seen AoT.

I don't really understand the point here what exactly that made your life "not normal" cuz of watching Anime ? The way i consume Anime is as a source of entertainment and that's it so it's not really that big of a deal or like something that's changing my life to a crazy degree, I could see however how being too much of an obsessed maniac with Anime and growing attached to fictional characters too much can make someone's life drastically different from the average norm if that's the case then that just sounds unhealthy to me personally, having a hobby or something that intrests u is normal and nothing to be shamed of but i can't really agree with the weird levels of obssesion i've seen some people reach that's just too much lol.

Both of my parents get social security checks, plus my dad's pension.

That doesn't sound that rich, but good for you if it's all working out. Your parents are fine with that arrangement or have they been trying to get you to get a job or something?

I also want to know where you live, if you don't mind me asking. I want those kind of social security checks as well :>
I probably regret this post by now.

So watching Anime is not normal, but getting loans to buy cars and setting uself in debts is normal ?

That's what a lot of my car freak friends has done and are doing.

Only not normal here, is you'r thinking.

U.S.A. My dad worked for more than 50 years, so his social security checks are a nice amount.

They wanted me to get a job sooner, but they know that I will when I'm done with my online projects.

Feels like you're saying everyone who watches anime don't have a normal life. That's not how it works my friend. I mean is there anything wrong with watching things that people like and just need some entertainment?

This is just dumb

If your hobbies rule your personality, then you should re-evaluate what you're doing with yourself. Watching anime on the side doesn't mean anything but when it becomes detrimental to yourself and your social life, it is a problem.

I've had a interesting life traveling around, having a productive career so far, and having a social life, etc. Anime has been a normal pasttime but I don't bring it up unless it's relivant. The only person who's been repulsive for watching it was a coworker who'd latch on to any discussion even mentioning anime, and it usually went off the deep end life "hnng you should keep watching Franxx, it's better when you ignore the cringey fan service". He was overweight, had a stale personality, and the one time I had the misofrtune to see his room - it had neko-ear headphones, body pillows, and wall scrolls. I made sure not touch anything.

I have stopped because I'm not really interested in anime anymore.
I still read some mangas that I buy tho.

But I was already a normal person before, I need to see and talk to people, going out at night etc..
Some cliche are true but everybody isn't like that and animes are more democratized now.

I think most of us here are just normal people of the working force in the world. I think most people that watch anime just have a job and have a social life. The prejudgement that anime watchers are lonely, don't touch grass and don't work is so obsolete.

might be different for older people, but to people in my age group (18-25) liking anime is the literal mainstream, u are bound to have a better friend group if u bond over genuine interests rather than trying to appease people who strive to be as conventional as possible.

People are answering seriously. Watching anime is normal and even reading and replying on MAL is normal.

I would like to know why you think these things aren't normal. Do you not realise that people you consider to be normal probably have their own niches too?

This question is weird because "normal" people do watch anime. Its a common perception that people who indulge in anime and video games are immature or don't have a social life. Unless you are doing it sitting in your mom's basement, you should be able to do what you like along with having a stable job and social life. It's just an entertainment medium. I like good stories. They can be in a book, a video game, a movie or Tv Series.......all I care about is quality. So along with having an account here, I also have accounts in "normal and mature" places like Goodreads :)

I personally think people who blame anime as the reason why they're socially awkward or don't have a social life are people who can't take ownership of their lives. Anime can give life lessons. But it can't solve a person's life problems for them. However, the very fact of us interacting right now on this forum shows that anime promote socialization by bringing people together with a common interest. Of course, there are people who feel members of the anime community are weirdoes and don't wish to associate with them. Or there may be some people who don't want to associate with the anime community at all. But that's ultimately their choice and they don't speak for everyone. Plus, you're likely to find weirdoes who may not even have an interest in anime at all.

I see no reason to quit a hobby I love to fit someones perspective of being "normal." Btw your treatment by others is largely determined by your looks so changing your hobby does literally nothing to make you more of a normie.

Um, like, listen - hate to play armchair Freud, but maybe it's not your hobbies that need to change, but you and your mindset? You can't just get rid of one external thing you enjoy or have it suddenly change everything.

Besides, hate to break it to you but anime is "normal" now for better or worse. What the hell is normal? Watching football? I sure as shit am not gonna sit down for an hour+ to watch roided-boys throw a ball of air around.

I don't find anime abnormal in any way, I think it's a fantastic thing. I watch anime because it reminds me of who I was when I was younger, gives me nostalgia to days gone by and makes me feel more like myself. That said, I often have trouble focusing and unwinding, find it difficult to get in the zone and truly enjoy something for more than a few episodes at a time.

What do you mean by normal? Does watching anime means you aren't normal? I wouldn't put it that way. Its like saying to quit watching shows on netflix and have a normal life. Many people watch anime mainly for their own enjoyment or a hobby. Then there are also people called weebs who are obsessed with anime and japan culture, I would say that they are pretty abnormal. No offense to any weeb out there just giving my own opinion.
