If it's not 70mm Ultra Panavision, there's no need to watch it in a theater.

Only Tenki no Ko with some mates back around the start of September last year. Definitely worth seeing it on the big screen.

Don't really get much anime in cinema around here, maybe a Pokemon movie sometime but nothing much beside that (might have seen the first movie in the cinema but it was over 20 years ago, so I can't say for sure).

Watched One Piece Gold with my brother when we went travelling in Japan, we had this or Gintama live action to choose from at the time and figured that One Piece would be easier to understand with no subtitles. Cinema was full and the people seemed regular, but I guess it's just normal like that in Japan (especially with how much One Piece is liked by the general public over there).

Also, not a cinema but I watched Your Name on a plane. I remembered seeing it being promoted outside cinemas in China but didn't have much time to go watch it then (it's why I always read it as 'ni de mingzi' instead of 'kimi no na wa'). When I saw it on the list of movies on the plane I checked it out and loved it in an instant. I vaguely remember seeing people looking at my screen during some awkward scenes but all in all I would say it was a pretty normal reaction. Later I saw it playing on two other screens and my brother picked it up as well by the time I was halfway through.

All for one, one for all, all for one and one for all
Some for some, none for none
Slightly less for people we don't like
And a little bit more for me

I coordinate my anime watching list to the theater airing schedule. Ever since I watched Kimi no Na wa twice in theaters (the second time I had the whole theater to myself), I am certain the theater experience is so much better. Granted, the other audience members can get kinda rowdy at parts and the enjoyment level diminishes slightly, but would definitely recommend the experience. I already have so many movies to watch for February until April.

2 experiences.
I went to see the Made in Abyss first recap movie with three friends. 2 of us already saw the series and 2 of us didn't; we honestly just went to have a good time as friends. Not much happened this time.

The best experience though was the DBS: Broly Movie. It was terrible and I wasn't even interested in watching it; I just went because my friends were going.
I live in Mexico, and the LatinAmerican Fandom of Dragon Ball might be the cringiest Fandom I've seen, and I had the time of my life laughing at them. Children and Adults were constantly yelling whenever someone's hair turned a different color. They applauded at the end. APPLAUDED.
I also just laughed at the things on screen too. The animation quality was laughable most of the time, like the DBZFighters Gameplay spliced in.

I can't wait for the Made in Abyss sequel movie to come to theaters here. We'll definitely see it together again.

Dbs Broly and Tenki no Ko are the only anime movies that aired in cinemas in India. For various reasons, I couldn't watch them. So I'm still waiting for another movie to release that I can watch hopefully.

I was amazed by the animation and visuals of the SAO movie. I can only imagine how great that would've been in the cinemas.

Spirited Away (subbed,2003)
Howls Moving Castle (dubbed,2005)
Silent Voice (subbed, 2017)
Princess Kaguya, When Marnie was there (2018, subbed)
Promare, Nausicaa (2019, subbed)

All were full except Howls Moving Castle, Silent Voice and Promare

I only did not like Howl's Moving Castle. Spirited Away was just too good so I left dissapointed after watchign Howl, but it was a decent movie on its own

Silent Voice was also good but it could not be compared to Ghibili's expert cinematography and colors.

Promare was an acid trip. Nausicaa, Spirited Away and Kaguya were masterpieces, while Marnie was a very good movie

I have a home theater with a projector and subs that could shake the neighborhood (although I don't turn it up to max cause it would probably kill my house first), so yeah, I often watch anime at the cinema. Screen size isn't as big as commercial venues, but then again, I get front-row seats.

Besides that, I've been to the screening at my university club. The audience is a good mix of weebs (think people who post dance covers of openings on YouTube) and geeks that just love watching anime to unwind. Great atmosphere. Cute girls (imo). You know that everyone there is into it as much as you are, but to be honest, it doesn't make a difference, because everyone is into it differently. Just like how I hardly ever agree with anyone on MAL, watching with a room full of anime fans might as well be like watching a Hollywood movie with a room full of randos. You might catch some references when people whisper stuff to their friends, but that also happens in regular showings.

It's cool to be able to share impressions while watching though, although I doubt you'd be able to do that at a commercial venue.

Out of all the anime films I watched in theaters, I've found the experience only meaningfully different from watching by myself if the movie has a really good OST. If I'm going to the theater by myself, I give everything a quick listen before going.

With friends it's a different story; I like the experience no matter what, because even if the movie is really bad, half the fun is complaining about how bad it is.

I have technically yes, but did not know it was anime, what anime was or had any concept of it, this being back when I was a kid. I watched the Pokémon movie in Dub. I liked it back then just fine.

I'd love to watch an anime movie in a movie theatre, only A) I think going to a movie theatre alone is pretty lame, but I don't have anyone who I'd go with to watch an anime. B) It takes a surprisingly long time for anime to reach where I live in theatres, if it does at all. C) I'm a closeted weeab so I'd probably have to go somewhere further away to be comfortable, even though nobody is likely to recognize me or care even if they did.

Ive seen a couple, like some ghibli movies during GKIDS annual ghibli fest, and I saw Weathering With You in cinema a few weeks ago! Id love to see more in theaters, but I live in a smaller college town so the demand to bring anime movies here isnt that huge, i guess. Ive been keeping up with GKIDS releases and other stuff to see the possibility of any movie theater near me getting a good anime movie, though.

However, the local cinema is getting the new my hero academia movie in a few weeks, which I plan to see as well! which I find it a little weird they are getting this one because they did no show the last one? Oh well, cant wait to see it! :D

Yes, twice. I watched Tenki no Ko and another movie. I forgot the name (since it was a while ago) but it was from Studio Ghibli. The cinema was really empty.

My question: have you ever watched an anime movie in the cinema?
YES.

What was the experience like, good or bad?
It was new and special. mostly good i would think. that was like *counting* 7 or 8 years ago?! damn...

How many people were in the cinema?
It was full. I was at the top row. Wouldn't know how many.

What were the other people there like?
Pretty excited and talkative before the movie, then when the lights turned off everyone shouted and clapped, that was really an experience. A lot of anticipation.

What anime was it?
Mahou shoujo Madoka Magica Rebellion (the third movie)

Did you watch it sub or dub?
Vividly subbed. since I missed some moment and wanted to pause or rewind. That was awkward.

If you haven't watched an anime in the theatres, do you want to?
I really want to go back but they don't stream any anime movies in my city, it's at least one hour away and then I need to take the subway to get there.

I've watched anime at the cinema a couple of times. The first time was going to watch Akira with some friends who hadn't watched it before. It was terrible. Firstly, they kept fucking up the projector so the movie started about 20 minutes late. Then the audio cut out for 5 minutes midway through the film and none of the employees had realised until one of us had gotten up to go tell them. Plus, the people next to me kept giggling for the entire movie. Also it was the incredibly mediocre dub which kinda ruined a lot of the movie. I've noticed with a lot of cinemas, they always play the dubbed instead of the subbed but don't specify which on their website. V annoying since im pretty sure most audiences who would watch anime at a cinema also don't mind subbed.

My next two movies were End of Evangelion which was really cool to see. This time I went to a massive cinema which was empty at the time so I didn't have any annoying audience members. Again, it was the dub but EoE dub isn't that bad to be fair.

Recently, I watched FLCL at the same cinema which screened Akira because they allowed for film suggestions. It was pretty cool watching it in a mostly empty cinema apart from me and 2 other friends. This time nothing fucked up and we watched the entirety without issue. However, I did feel like a bit of an ass having them screen an entire show for like 3 people.

My first anime in theaters was My Hero Academia: Heroes’ World Mission. It was so cool but I honestly wish I just went by myself, because I ended up bringing non-anime watchers with me and it just hurt to see them pretty uninterested. But something I thought was really cool was when they gave us a little manga version of the movie just for going to see it! The manga only discussed the first 10 minutes of it, but was still awesome to see the drawings from horikoshi. He also did a Q&A about My Hero and about himself. And he of course introduced all the characters and drew the main 3 (Midoriya, Bakugo, Todoroki) all in their new stealth suits. The movie is a stand alone movie, but if you’re not caught up then you’ll be very shocked once you see how their control over their quirks have drastically evolved so it’d probably be best to catch up first (aka watch till end of season 5).

I wish but there's like no cinemas at all where I live, so I can't even watch normal movies without spending several hours just to go to one.
