| I don't think too much of it. I understand the desire to have a mysterious persona. As others have mentioned, even if someone were to choose Male / Female, there would be no easy way to verify if that is indeed the case. I'd say 9 out of 10 times I'm able to discern a person's gender online by analyzing their writing and diction. |
| Some may prefer not to specify for fear of harassment while others do not identify with either gender. I honestly don't see why it matters. This isn't a dating site. From what I've seen you're either 12, a troll or a obnoxious pervert. Possibly all of the above. |

(eg. refraining from shaking hands or giving more personal space to a muslim). This generally applies to people of different ethnicity, religious background, ect. I don't see a need to treat a gender with a certain level of respect, unless you're one of those southern/traditional people that follows gender roles strictly. If one doesn't have their gender specified, especially online, then its a clear indication that they just don't care and would like to have that general form of respect. |
