| I don't know about this but someone raised this statement last week or last two weeks ago... An anime focusing on a gay male lead but the story will focus on his insights and experiences such as when did he realize he's gay and how and when did he came out and all that stuff and its implications... And not much on the romantic side... I know that a lot of live action films and series have done this but I haven't heard anything about anime yet. Or am i wrong? Correct me if there is indeed an anime like that already... |

| The Pink Haired sisters in Little Busters! we're beaten and tortured to, but it doesn't count to me because it isn't parenting. Maybe I should edit my post to say parenting a lack of real parenting not just abuse for messing up. 3rd grader Takamachi Nanoha stumbled upon an injured talking ferret after hearing his telepathic cries for help. The ferret turned out to be Yuuno, an archeologist and mage from another world who had accidentally scattered the dangerous Jewel Seeds throughout Earth. Without the strength to collect the Jewel Seeds, Yuuno had resumed a ferret form and needed someone else to take on the task for him. He gave a red jewel to Nanoha explaining to her with this she could transform and use magic to combat the monsters that threatened them due to the Jewel Seeds. But the monsters are the least of their worries, as Yuuno and Nanoha are not the only ones out to collect the Jewel Seeds. That's the definition of Sci-fi to me sorry. |

Good for you, you read the description of an anime and decided what genre is. If I read the description of Madoka Magica, I could've decided that it was a shoujo. You know what it isn't? A shoujo. It is fantasy, yes, but I don't see at all how it can be considered sci-fi. I mean, there's attack names and explosions and magic and shit but still. And just because an anime is sci-fi doesn't disqualify it from being one that fits into the description of "an anime where the child literally gets abused." The main girl also has a big lack of actual parenting and neglect on her part. Please don't try to say my points are nothing when you haven't even seen the series yourself. |

I haven't watched it so I can't provide any in depth details but I always see Princess Tutu in a 'dark magical girl' rec thread as well as its highest user rec anime is Madoka. Madoka isn't the first but I'd say it gets points for what appears to be popularizing the dark magical girl theme. |

Imo Madoka pulls it off better then the others that I've seen due to the sheer psychological breakdown that the viewer is presented. Some of these other shows yeah, they get bloody and or creepy or dark, but the way Madoka shows its characters breaking down in the ways they do is what makes it so well-done for me. |
