It's hard to choose ONE aspect, but if u had two of the most important things to you in an anime like art and music, which ONE would convince you to stick to that anime to the end if it were done well? OR, which one would make u drop that anime if it were done terribly?

Characters, easily.

I find myself very character-driven. They’re the ones that pull me in and keep me watching, even if everything else sucks.

I actually made a similar thread where people ranked all the elements they cared for in anime: http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=388617
But this poll is nice. ...but what's with the "fml, gtfo, idc..." option?

Story is one of the main reasons I watch anime, cause I find they generally have far better stories than american tv shows, but I picked characters because they really are what make or break an anime imo.

Visuals! When I find an anime I first check if it's animated by reputable animation studios like Ufotable or KyoAni. Who cares about story or characters if I can't look at the damn screen!? This is one of the reasons I can't stand at old anime; they are just so ugly to look at.
What do you think you're piloting? Great Mazinger? Dangaioh? For Pete's sake, this isn't some robot cartoon whose main character is an autistic kid or some punk. - Kiichi Goto, Mobile Police Patlabor

Yikes, that's a pretty superficial way to treat anime. To me, older anime simply requires an imagination.

Characters. I can forgive a plot full of holes, or a bad animation style if I like the characters. And no matter how well written the story is (especially if it's melodramatic) I am numb to it if I hate the characters.

Usually characters, though there are the rare series where the plot/story is more important (like Mushishi, because the characters, other than Ginko and the doctor, are always one shots and are thus perfectly fine being stereotypes so long as the story is awesome instead, which it is)

My vote - story. But no matter how good the plot is, character development is a must (with the exception of really short anime).

Characters.
Why?

Because with amanzingly thought characters like some animes have, makes me watch the whole thing and ALMOST cry for more (man here).
Seriously, if it's a good story with awesome characters it's 5* for me.

Ecchi or fanservice--random tit-jiggling, random touching of girls'/guys' private parts, etc.

ditto.

btw guys, don't set the limit too far. For example, for art, which is what makes the visual aspect of an anime, an extremist would ask, "no art means no anime at all!" No the QUALITY, not the presence of the factors.

An extremist can also say, "without sound fx, you're just watching a silent film with random music tracks!" No, I'm talking about QUALITY of sound fx, not the presence or absence of sound fx.

Just to clarify.

So which one would affect your ability to stay with the anime? If animation is decent and story SUCKS, would u still stick with it? Vise-versa.

Story/Plot of course, even if the characters are great, if there's no plot it's meaningless. However, if there's a plot, and all characters are girls, I'll immediately drop it, because they are obviously going for fanservice there, so that's a situation where I don't care if the plot is good either. Except, some stories. In other words, I love story and characters, but I hate "moe".

Story. I have to be into the story in order to like an anime. The plot MUST be enough to hook me, no matter how good the characters are or how great the soundtrack is.

So I had a hard time deciding, but picked story/plot. I mostly picked this, because I'm going to be weird about it and I personally feel that "characters" are an integral part and a derivative of the story/plot.

Story/plot. No sense in well created characters, great art, animation, sound, etc if the the story isn't even mildly interesting, well conceived and executed.

Of course it would be the Story/plot.You could have the best freaking characters in the universe! If there is no plot to put them in its pointless!

Although if there were two choices,I'd probably also go with Art. Can't have no bishies!

Art. For some reason, if the art does not appeal to me whatsoever, I will not even give it a chance. But story and characters are a close second.
Like by some, hated by many, but known by all.

Good or bad stories is rather subjective IMO.

Badly animated footages seem to be the biggest turn-off for me, not to mention most of the Japanese animations still stuck in its "limited-animation" trend.

I'm still waiting for the next Akira-grade movie or anime with Macross DYRL level. :P

I think I need there to be likeable characters, to me. If a character annoys me I'm put off the series a lot. But, that isn't enough to deter me.

I suppose it needs to be either funny or exciting, whether it has a plot or not, because plotless stuff can be just as enjoyable, I suppose.

I voted Story/Plot, but I also can be drawn to or put off of things by the art style. For example, the "bishie" style of most shoujo anime puts me off, or older, less fresh looking animation. Of course, as long as the story sounds good, I can ingnore how the art looks as a factor, I've just recently developed a tendency to be picky.

Is it that hard to understand why somebody(like myself), would watch a show for watching characters interact with each-other, or for the comedy? Anime like :
-Strike witches
-Yuru yuri
-K-on!
-A-Channel
-Lucky star
-Candy boy

Both baccano and durarara have hardly any form of a plot especially durarara, they end up so highly rated and so popular due to how amazing the chaarcters are. That right there is a perfect example of how characters can make a show regardless of a plot

Although characters to me are almost as important losing to story by that

Imagine EVERYTHING, except this one factor that you're choosing, to be just OK. That is, if you consider MUSIC to be your factor, then imagine OK art, characters, plot, etc. and the only thing varying is the quality of the MUSIC. Now, would u drop an anime for the shittiest music in anime history? Or would you continue to watch it because the music gives u ear-gasms? Everything else is just OK; they are at a level of quality that neither attract or detract u from the anime.

Music to be honest. I can endure a shit show (Guilty Crown) as long as it has good music. Characters probably come second and then story.
As a child, I was told that society is a melting pot of talents; knowledge and experience combined to form important alloys that will contribute to mankind. When I got to highschool, however, I thought that it's more like a river in which the water represents our peers while we ourselves are the stones in the river. Constant erosion by mindless majority sheeping has made us lose our unique edge. After I hit the age of 18, I realized that I've been wrong all along. Society is no melting pot. Society is no river. Society is a person, a very skilled rapist, and he has fucked us all.

Characters for sure. I can easily overlook a stupid plot, or lack of it if I like the characters, but if I dislike the characters, no matter how interesting the plot is, I'll have a problem with the anime.

I'm really easy, though, I hardly ever hate a character.

That's a pretty difficult one. I would say the plot, and characters second, since a story can be loved even if the characters are average. If the characters were great, but the story sucked, I wouldn't be able to continue watching. x______x
