Curious how many people drop anime and the reasons why.

The only anime I've dropped is Bleach. It's gotten ridiculously boring past the aizen arc and the fillers don't help. The manga is pretty terrible now also.

- As of 5 months after making this post ( 8/19 ), I've ended up dropping a handful of shows and actually completed Bleach since the anime ended. What a turn of events :P

EDIT: Updated the post.

last choice. I never drop any anime before. I'm still watching anime even that anime is purely crap like GC, just skipping all pointless scene and only watch some important scene.
just want to know how it's gonna end...

that's why I usually trying to find some info before watch anime (mostly from spoilers). if I think that anime is really bad, I won't watch it.

When I drop an anime...the only reason is that I just don't like it, simple as that. Why would I try and force myself to sit through an anime that I dislike, when I could be enjoying something that I actually like...I just don't see the point.

Naruto, Bleach, Kuroshitsuji.

1) I'm bored with it
2) I'm just lazy and its not good enough for me to keep watching.

That is all. Or character's voices are so unbearable I want to tear my eardrums out I just drop it.

Hmm. Some reasons.

-too much characters at the start
-too much fanservice (of course if the story is getting destroyed by this)
-some ideas are just plain stupid

and did not give much impact.

Why torture yourself to watch a show you don't like when you can watch other shows you might like?

(probably some people don't drop it for the sake of stats and completion)

Usually one of three scenarios:

1. Really long anime and not worth the time it takes to catch up on missing episodes.
2. 90% of the way there, but for some reason just don't have the willpower to sit through the last few episodes.
3. I just get a bad feeling.

Generally, I don't drop anime. But that doesn't mean that I watch everything either, meaning that I try to pick shows that interest me. I have dropped a few though, mostly comedies that got too stale or I just didn't find funny to begin with. Those and the battle shows that have run for way too long already while constantly dropping in quality too. I guess I just drop when I see no reason to watch anymore and there is nothing to look forward to.

If I feel like it's gonna be a waste of my time to continue then I drop it. I usually start out watching several anime per season, but end up dropping over half of them after the first episode if I personally don't see any potential. i.e. Inu x Boku from this season.

Great mentality. I also think this way as well regardless of dropping an Anime before. I have only dropped 2/260 Animes in my life time but I'm planning on finishing both of them soon. (was almost done them anyways) xD

I've never dropped one, but I'm not opposed to the idea of it.

I'm just really cautious when I pick an anime to watch, so I don't end up wasting time.

i don't take many anime risks. It's paid off so far

I drop anime without a specific reason actually, usually I want the first few episodes, and when I find it boring I just drop it, because imo it's a waste of time when you're watching something you don't enjoy.

ok not bad as in terrible abomination spawned by some moronic mind - like Boku no Pico, whan it's even fun to see what they created
but if it's boring and unappealing to me than it just goes away.

I drop anime if the plot is really bad (UN-GO for instance) or the characters are trying to eat my brains (Clannad, Air..). Or just if I think theres something better for me to watch. There are so many anime I will never be able to watch, so I wont force myself to watch the bad ones.

Yes.
Especially if it's still airing, because if I don't like it it's a pain to always have to watch it every single week. And since I tend to forget when episodes are out for those shows I don't care for, the episode length grows even more forcing me to catch up, which makes me drop said anime even faster.

A lot of my dropped list is anime I randomly saw on TV, and didn't have any interest in pursuing once I lost that channel or they stopped airing the show. TV Conflicts is the best I could think to tag them. Death Note is the one people seem to be unable to accept that someone could drop, but that's what happened.

If it's boring, too fanservicey or has bad characters, those are the main reasons I'd drop anything else.

I drop anime all the time.
There is no way on Earth I'd force myself to watch something I don't like. O_o

When I start an anime, I have no idea if I'll like it or not, I usually go by the five episodes rule. If by the end of the fifth episode, I'm getting no satisfaction from the show, I drop it.
Sometimes, it happens earlier, sometimes I can't even finish the first episode.

Anime is a hobby, something I use to relax in my free time. Time is not limitless so I'm not finishing shows just for the sake of it.

As for why I drop. Tis a mix.
Bad writting, too much stereotypes, too much fanservice, a story or characters that just don't appeal to me, bad direction. Can be many things. :)

When an anime loses every single bit of appeal to me, it becomes dropped. The only slight exception was Junjou Romantica. Of course most people who hated yaoi would've just avoided it but I don't judge books by its cover so I decided to see why I would hate it and well, two episodes was enough to throw me off and make me drop it and avoid any yaoi anime in the future.

I try to finish what I start, and tbh most of the stuff on my dropped list is something I will probably end up trying to finish again.

Honestly though, some things just bore me to much. Over time, that will change as my tastes and current preferences change and I will go and finish them off. I figure theres no point in watching something I am not enjoying.

Worst case scenario, if I cant finish something but dont want to drop it I simply throw the player into 4 times speed and read the subs and ignore everything else. Gets it finished very quickly and I still know what happened. That is probably how I will deal with a few of the shows I have dropped.

I usually find it has to do with the characters, because good characters can make even a cliche ridden plot look decent and most of the "romance in high school" and "slice of life in high school" genres (among others) don't really have much of a plot to begin with so then it's all up to characters. On the other hand, bad characters can make a good plot difficult to sit through.
I don't think I've ever dropped due to poor animation, perhaps because my standards are low in that department. My standards are much higher for music, but even then I didn't drop "I stole my music from an elevator soundtrack" Shingu for it (because the characters were awesome).
So yeah, characters are easily my number one reason.

I think I would drop an anime if the characters suck, the story sucks, the animation sucks and I realized it at the beginning of the anime. I also won't drop it if a friend keeps telling me it gets better, but they've been wrong before! =((.

I rarely drop anime, so far there are only 3:

Atm, 6 is the minimum I watch to avoid any rash decisions. It should also be enough to have a good idea of the show. If the 6 first episodes (out of 12) fail to entertain me or even annoy me then I see no point in forcing myself to watch more.

The only ones I've dropped is because the story got overly repetitive and boring (the shounens), or because the character's weren't appealing and it was aalso boring from the start. I don't drop anime anymore, because I like to watch short ones (12-26 episodes) and dropping something this short is perhaps a waste. But I have no intention at all to pick up the ones I've dropped.

I really like dropping anime, and once something ends I'll most likely go on a random blog and read about it. If I drop something it's a mix of:
1. Distracting fan service
2. If it's a comedy but it's not funny
3. The characters weren't very likeable and/or cliched and/or over-the-top
4. The plot makes no sense whatsoever or is really stupid
5. The VAs are unbearable
6. Unnecessary gore/nose bleeds
7. If it's boring

Yes I do. And usually it's because I had just watched a really good anime and the others just can't live up to the epicosity.

For example, I loved Code Geass. I watched TTGL afterwards thinking it'd be pretty cool, but it just wasn't for me. I watched ~half of the series, and I just didn't like the vibes I got from it.

Otherwise I only drop a series if I truly didn't like the characters, plot etc. Or in the case of LOGH, I dropped due to the art and animation. I might finish it one day... but that's a big MIGHT. I doubt it. Maybe when I am terribly bored? Who knows.

When I drop an anime it's usually because of these factors...

-Unappealing characters/character progression goes to hell.
-If it is a sequel series, and repeats the same crap from the prequel that everything becomes predictable.
-Overuse of fanservice and fanservice placed in scenes just for the hell of it.
-Crappy VA performances.
-Enjoyment factor is nonexistant.

I don't like episodic animes (in most cases), especially if that's combined with unoriginal characters.

I mostly try to watch some episodes, but how many depends on the amount of time I have. If I have holidays and want to enjoy a good anime I'm not going to struggle through one I don't like.

I have dropped some animes after 1 episode but I'll be sure to give them a 2nd chance later on since there are some series which really get better towards the middle/end.

Yes I drop any anime I don't like for a variety of reasons. Probably first is if I can't stand the voices next is the plot/story. I'm not going to force myself to watch something I don't like. But just because I drop an anime doesn't mean I entirly gave up on it, I usually give an anime at least 2 chances before I entirely say that I hate it. One good example is Toradora, I dropped it because I didn't like the first epsiode, waited a year rewatched and liked it.

When I consider dropping an anime I ask myself a few questions,

Is there something about this anime I cannot stand?
Am I enjoying this anime enough to overlook it's flaws?
Is this anime good enough to be worth my time?

If the answer is no to two or more of these questions, I drop the anime.

Aside from the music being bad, I have dropped animes for all of the reasons polled on. Usually, when I drop an anime, it has a combination of faults that I cannot over look.

I have explained why all my dropped animes were dropped in my anime list.

I usually try out majority of every Anime that airs each season. I usually end up only finishing ~5-7 of them. So yes I drop series, if that counts.

Most of the time I drop Anime because:
-It gets boring/lost interest.
-I simply don't like it.
-Apparently I don't want to watch it on the computer.

It's funny though, I find myself able to watch more Anime on my TV than on my computer. Maybe its because the screens bigger and better sound... lol.
