Ha, the chemistry in this show is always there even with someone like Arisu added in the mix.

Looks like a buildup episode for the band. Lilisa and the rest of the band together united for their performance. I love how they all dress similar now, with a similar look like Otoha. Lilisa standing for Arisu is also a badass moment. The season finale should be exciting.

Weekly dose of my rock lesbians! The girls got their 2nd big challenge this week in the band square off with Bacchus and I CANNOT wait to see them absolutely send these stuck up rich pricks home crying with no fans next week. Finale should be a perfect bookend to everything we’ve built this season.

The absolute worst thing you can ever say to Lilisa is that rock bands are “just for fun.” This isn’t just a phase or hobby for her, it’s her only real way of expressing and being herself. It would be like someone dismissing the very essence or core of your being. Bacchus are just in this for fans, followers and the attention they brings rather than the actual art form itself. They don’t stand a chance against the girls, just a matter of how bad they get shown up.

I’m proud of Lilisa standing up to Otoha and getting her to come along with the performance. Up to this point, we’ve kinda always seen them be on the same page, so it feels like some good character development for Lilisa to put her foot down and tell Otoha basically “nah, you’re GOING to play with us” lol. I respect Otoha for not being in this for fame or to win, that explains why she didn’t mind Tina being there. It’s kinda like playing a video game with that one friend that’s amazing and they never make you feel bad for them having to carry you.. but in this case, Lilisa’s absolutely correct to take on Bacchus because they’re an affront to everything rock stands for. Plus it gives the girls a chance to grow as a band.

Alice was the best part of the episode for me. They’re clearly setting her up to become the girls’ manager which will be dope, but I love how she pulled her own little yuri harem already πŸ˜‚ the girls doting on her like a cute alternative to Lilisa was so funny. Respect to her for standing up to the Bacchus guys as well. She might be all prim and proper, but she’s still Lilisa sister so she’s got a lot of that same spunk. The audacity of that dude to act like he was gonna hit her tho?? Fucking loser. Good thing Lilisa showed up in time.

Can’t wait for the performance next week. We finally got our outfits from the ending and this competition’s personal. Should be an awesome finale.. but then it’s all over 😒

Lilisa and the group being elated for another chance to perform, though the other group of Bacchus is ready to rock their style.

The real fact is that the livehouse needs its fans and audience to fill the place, and without a rival band, the girls are simply hopeless. That's where the all-men contemporary band of Bacchus comes to fill in the gap with their social media numbers...and Alice too for surveillance? And since they're also aiming for Fuji Rock, it seems like a good deal, though their insult on rock n' roll sure pisses Lilisa off. The owner being the neutral party in all of this, she sure knows how to stir the fire even greater for Lilisa as a potential to steal their fans and make them theirs.

Still, Shiraya has a point that their instrumental band isn't well equipped to handle a band the size of Bacchus, though Kurogane suddenly opting out for not wanting to pander to the audience, it feels as if that the all-female band is falling apart at the seams, though Lilisa reneged her message and keeps it relevant so that Kurogane is still allowed to play for her own sake. The managerial side seeing Alice and Icchan helping each other's bands, though the former throws shade that riles Naoto all the more, it's better proving through the Battle of the Bands showdown itself.

Apart from Bitter Ganache, THIS is the real challenge for the all-ladies rock band. Play your hearts out, Lilisa and gang!

Those guys were disgusting and i hated every moment they were polluting my screen.
Let's hope they are put in their place by the girls.

This has been one of the best shows this part of the season, and as a musician, I have really enjoyed all of it.

There last live show they did, they practiced as much as they could, but they were not totally altogether, the pianist was new / inexperienced, the drummer had to keep everyone playing on time and as a unit, there was an instrument / music fight between the bassist and guitarist, also it was their first live show together, so of course that was not there best performance.

The tension built up in this episode, arrogant rich band that is all about appearance in order to gain fame / fortune vs actual musicians that love music and playing to their hearts content, on top of the two sisters fighting this battle together this time, oh and their matching outfits, I can't wait for the next episode.

"nameless instrumental band" vs Bacchus

I also like that girl who has helped keep an eye out at that school building is there too, I am glad.

Note, the singer told their manager to film it, that is setting up a completely new wrinkle in this, what will happen?

I certainly hope we get a second season to find out.

I think that crying catgirl is actually MyGO. Yeah... your avatar
MyGO = maigo = lost child. That picture depicted a crying girl, a posture often seen in a lost child, especially in the anime. The background color also matches MyGO's color.

I would agree with a lot of people here that the male band is annoying and they are also a letdown to this series. Now, it's time to watch Lilisa thrashing those ikemen.

I give it the highest rating, but this episode didn't give me the usual thrills or satisfaction I felt in the previous ones. The narration isn't disappointing, Shiraya's reasoning is sound as are Oto and Lilisa's reaction, but I don't feel satisfied. However, the comedy is well managed and there is enough laughter

This episode made a great set-up for the next one, which should have an epic showdown and a great song segment as it befits show like this.

What I really liked so far is how Alice developed as a character, going from all out hate becasue Lilisa suddenly joined family and felt distant becasue of her mother to outright love and respect once she saw real Lilisa. The moment where she defended her in the end against those rich brat boys was just cherry on the top.

Cannot wait for the next week episode, just to see those rich boy band acknowledging defeat.

Wow these guys really are clueless clowns assholes. Idk how rich their family are or whatever but the girls parents are distinguished families and even has important government positions and such so these clowns are in for a lesson if Alice's father ever find out the clown was harrassing her.

A lot's riding on this next performance. Even Oto's not motivated. Lilisa will have to turn things around. They finally got matching outfits though and they all look great.

Arisu soo cuteeee....

YES they are sus for sure.

This rich boy band is as entitled, unlikable and as asshole as you can get. Literally assaulted a child twice. Lilisa should have smashed that head.
She was already at edge but now these shitheads only egged him even more. Obviously she will be desperate to win. Otoha will soon get her point probably.

Need to teach this fkers a lesson and also for Arisu and her trust

Should be a good finale.

Alice spying on her sister and fangirling, then being cuddled by the other band members, then fangirling even harder and becoming staff for her sister and her band, standing up for them, and finally getting a hug by Lilisa: so much adorableness this episode, I loved it.
Also liked the little arguing between Oto and Lilisa, and how Lilisa tried and somehow convinced her to play.

We basically saw a lot of humanity and kindness in the girls band (and their cute admirer).
This contrasted quite a bit with how these guys in the boys band were just pure human garbage: they're really the caricature of the buffoons starting a band just to get some cheap celebrity and to pick up some girls, they're imagining they're really great and can treat others poorly.

The way this episode has gone I would be very surprised if the girls didn't win, or at least I hope they will, I'm looking forward to the finale!

This episode did a fantastic job setting the stage for the finale. It stirred up some inner-band tension, introduced the rival group, and gave us even more reason to cheer for our favorite sapphic anime rock band. And speaking of sapphic vibes. I loved how Alice had the same reaction that a lot of us viewers did, especially when it comes to Oto and Lily. I mean, come on. “Yuri” literally translates to “Lily” in English. That’s not subtle!

Also, can we talk about Alice and how she fits into the group dynamic? While the show made Bacchus feel like the perfect rival band to root against, it also did a great job deepening the bond between Alice and Lily not just as friends, but almost like sisters. And beyond that, Alice feels like the little sister of the whole band now. The “tsundere who turns out to be sweet” is a classic anime move, but Alice’s growth has been genuinely heartwarming, and I’m really happy she’s along for the ride.

Good timing with this show airing today, because I’m actually going to two concerts over the weekend, Friday and Saturday, they’re not rock shows but there are rock elements involved lol.

Pretty good episode tho, I’m not a big fan of how they’ve portrayed the all boys band, Bacchus, but they do make some good villains for the finale, Ryuuichi and Itsuki seem kinda chill, maybe Takuya as well, but Naoto and Yuu are straight up toxic lol, it will feel good to see them get crushed next week, because if our resident babe band is playing first, I feel sorry for them to have to follow that up lol. There is the question of the fans tho, they’re mostly women and are hell bent on being disrespectful to the girls’ band, what I’m thinking is gonna happen is that Naoto is gonna make an ass of himself on stage or something, if their faces somehow don’t get melted from the rock show they’re about to witness lol.

I also liked the drama between the band members in this one, especially Otoha and Lilisa, they’ve butted heads since the beginning but never when it came to actually performing together, so it was surprising to see Otoha back down from playing at first, but thankfully Lilisa reeled her in with the promise of feeling better than ever before, that would be what gets Otoha back onboard lol. Alice was also an MVP in this one, she’s come a long way from how she was at the start of the show, she put on quite the performance of her own there against Bacchus but thankfully Lilisa stepped in before it could get ugly, as if Bacchus needed more reasons for Lilisa to be pissed at them lol. But from here we just got one episode left, I’m really gonna miss these rock ‘n roll badass babes when it’s all over.

Amazing, the Bacchus lead is such a douche it is almost laughable. Rude, arrogant, and even laid hands on Arisu just because she supports her sister. The guy has more red flags than a communist parade.

edit: I don't agree with the authors choice of opponent here. I feel the lame duck boy band is a low hurdle for the girls to clear and it is disrespectful to the hard work they've put in. I think it might have been better if they were up against a rock band that would respect their skills instead.

C'mon Lilisa. You need to kill these guys with your music (and probably Otoha too, she says she wants to feel so good she'll die or smth)

Loved seeing Lilisa jump in with the folding chair, it's just a shame she missed. I did find the scene of the Bacchus lead grabbing Alice to be kind of funny, just the way this much taller guy was getting so worked up over a kids comments was funny to watch. Speaking of Alice, the scene of her freaking out as she got pampered by the rest of Lilisa's band was also great fun, her delusions regarding her sisters band was also pretty comedic. All in all, I enjoyed the comedy this episode.

Alice becoming the little sister of everyone was great.

Goodness, Bacchus really is a group of clowns. Can't wait for them to be verbally abused next week: I imagine Lilisa would go all out, without any regard for their feelings.

Alice is freaking adorable, but let's not forget that there is a certain lady watching from the bar (and I'm not talking about the owner).
They really succeeded in a very short amount of time in making these asshats as unlikeable as possible, and I seriously can't wait until they get their karma moment.
I expect a rocky start, but Lilisa will give Oto what she wants when she turns all that rage into something Oto will not forget.

Oto should remember that you only can get the best experience when others can also deliver their part, this is not a single player game, and we know what gets Lilisa really fired up.

(Still not sure if that Lady didn't spurn her on intentionally, by mentioning the 'fun' part, given that she was still very laid back and didn't give a shit about her time for the appointment. I could totally see that she figured out what was going on with Lilisa (let's be honest, her desire can be very obvious) and decided to have some fun to fire her into the stratosphere with words she maybe would have also really disliked hearing.)

Alice's sisters are gonna do right by her and send those creeps to hell with their Rock.

And those b**tches in the crowd..who would want fans like that ? I believe the video of their performance would be leaked by Itsuki and the girls are gonna get famous. I believe that's how it's gonna go.

Wasn't expecting Oto to back off like that. More responsibilities rest on Lilisa's shoulder now. She need to show Oto that she will be able to have the utmost fun playing with her.

So excited for the final episode. I'm not ready to say goodbye to this show.

Decent episode, but a bit confusing. I'm not sure if confusing is the right word, but here's what I mean, against Bitter Gauche, Lilisa practiced a lot before the day of the band battle, and still couldn’t steal their audience, or better yet, beat them in the eyes of their fans, at all.

So this time around, Lilisa hasn’t practiced at all, and yet she’s supposed to steal Bacchus’s fans? How does that work? I get that the Bacchus band is made up of newbies and rookies, but even so, they’re still seen as spectacular by their own fans. How do you beat that?

I understand the value of confidence, sure, but if you go around bragging about obliterating them without being sure you can, you’ll just end up a laughingstock. I honestly don’t know how this band battle will turn out, but I hope Lilisa surprises me.

Feeling scared for our girls, they weren't really on the same page for this one and its just Lilisa getting hot headed as always. But I believe in her, everything depends on her performance, she needs to turn Otoha's switch on. I do think it would be funny for all those toxic girl fans turn into crazy yuri fans.

Next episode would be the finale and I hope it'll be a good one!

I agree that a vocalist is essential, but what I liked has least used that for the end of the season the final battle is with that group of ridiculous boys, it is nothing Exciting. By the way, all of those references to Girls Band Cry K on, Bochhi, Mygo etc ... Any of those anime is a very superior level to this.

After realizing there's somehow only ONE more episode? (there's gotta be a cour 2 right?!?!) here is my pre-emptive short review/thoughts.

In the end of the day, the story of Rock Is a Lady's Modesty is a lot like it's Characters, which is a lot like it's Performances, which is a lot like it's music: loud, fun, and pretty to look at. Which is impresive for an animated sequence but look any deeper under the surface and it's pretty standard story-telling fair. Which in a anime that began being about identity, freedome, and repression, it's a shame it's barely using any of it's creative/narrative tools to pull on something more clever or emotional. It seems to look at "anger" and "rebellion" more as aesthetics than emotions.

I actually thought this was going to originally have 24-26 episodes at the pace it was going and the relatively low stakes and flat drama is was serving (felt very "getting the band together" esque). It seriously feels like the pace of a 90s/00s anime adaptation for an 80s/90s manga that would end up having like 50-80 episodes. Which in this current anime climate of merely producing 12-13 episodes of a cour at a time? Well that just doesn't cut it for adaptation with this awkward pacing, like it's treading water before it can show you what it's finally trying to get around to by the 15-18 episode mark.

Even as a 13-episode long showing it just can't live up to something like Bocchi the Rock were even relatively less was on the line and still felt flush with equal parts adventure, angst, comedy, and drama and a variety of ideas and moments explosive moments of emotional catharsis and ethos. In the meantime, Lady's Modesty still feels like it's figuring out its foundation: lingering through scenes of repetitive squabbles, blushing fanservice, and jokiness (to the extent that certain episodes feel inert in terms of story), all while rushing through its most important characterization moments and ideas.

Even IF there is inevitably a new season/cour announced for this Fall, it likely will be all too late for me to care about following up with the continuing adventures of Lilisa and friends nor will it fix the utter lack of ideas that exist in these first 12 episodes.
