So this is a topic about sexualisation of women in anime where it does absolutly nothing to the story and has nothing to do with anything thats going on. First: I really understand that a show about incest needs to show incest, or it kinda does not do a good job portraying it. but here is what i mean: I talk about sexualisation of especialy young girls and women in anime where it has nothing to do with the plot and does not do anything for the anime. All that is accomplished by that is that the anime commnity is put in a really weired corner. Again i have nothing against sex, nudity and whatever in anime or manga where it fits the work. You cant do an anime about strippers, without showing naked girls/guys, you know what i mean. But there are a lot of shows which have absolutly nothing to do with sex and still need to show the girls from weird angles all the time to show pantys. Even shows like fairy tail need to show women constantly in nearly nothing. And of course all of them have giant boobs. Then there is the example of 2,5d seduction where a lot of people are complaining that there is not enough ecchi in it. Now my question: Why do you need to have ecchi in an anime about high school girls doing cosplay? Watch hentai if you want to see naked anime girls, i simply dont get it. Why do we need to ruin good storys with oversexualisation of women all the time? I get the appeal of anime sex, dont get me wrong and i understand why someone wants to see it, but why put it in shows where it does absolutly nothing for the story? |

Basically the answer is a presumption that an audience mostly composed of heterosexual men or boys want to see essentially pornographic material at all times. I kind of get why someone would think we think like this, I do think about sex a lot, and back in the day when pornography was harder to access putting some softcore material in your anime could genuinely help garner an audience. Personally find it quite tiresome, though, it tends to take me out of the experience and remind me that I am watching something that's very much a product. I did come to appreciate the relentless horniness in Darling in the Franxx because that was earnestly and genuinely about teenage sexuality, however. |

Part of it is because there is basically a post genre age where everything kind of blends together. Japanese culture traditionally was very much fine with the human body and sexuality and only became more conservative in Western terms by imperialist control over Japan post WWII. Sexuality and nudity are part of life. Also not everything you see is inherently meant as explicitly erotic but rather a way of showing a kind of realism, artistic angles or show innocence of a character through the lens of sexual gaze. 2.5D Seduction is one of the worst examples. Shouldn't the name and ecchi genre clued you in? Literally the whole point isn't just about cosplay it's an animanga otaku's fantasy of having flesh and blood girls like their anime waifus and imoutos. |

Your most recently watched series are pure pretty boy anime. Men are the same way except with a preference to pretty girls. The male sex drive is greater than the female sex drive thus the demand for sex is increased in male catered series. Also, men like fertility and purity. This is why men have a huge preference for teenagers and schoolgirls. The average age to have a kid 1000 years ago was 15. Literally in our biology |

@traed Yeah that's also a very calculated, if not necessarily cynical or bad, way of pushing men's buttons. There is something about cute anime girls having a nice time that very much taps into latent feelings of what I'd call paternal satisfaction, or at least it does for me. |

Cost savings/laziness. Why put lots of effort into building an audience through beautiful animation and spicy stories when a couple of boobs is all it takes to get the boys to the yard? Lots of talentless manga artists and/or writers just try to use sexual fanservice as a short cut to making the dough. |

I don't mind it though I see the argument of why watch anime for the ecchi just watch hentai but I would think a number of things cause the ecchi aspect. In some ways, it is used to gain popularity, can be fanservice sometimes or is just something the author prefers to have. If the author puts it I can't really complain, it's their way of expressing the story, realism or whatever it is that they want... they made that scene, i would assume they put it cause they want it or something. 2.5 seduction though is not a good example as the title gives it away and also if you read the manga, I would say the anime has done it's best to counteract the 'ecchi-ness' and also the story is kind of a highschool fantasy and the MC is helping a girl who is interested in adult cosroms soooooooooo it was very evident that it was gonna be sexual |

2.5 seduction is a bad example because if you would have read the manga you would have know that before he decided to do a random 180 on Ririsa her whole character point in the story was can a girl enjoy erotic cosplay which was actually interesting because girl also have sex drive but a lot of stories portray girls in either one of the two extremes but rarely one in the middle like Ririsa. |

Not going to lie, I am sort of drawing blanks for very many recent anime doing this, to be honest. Am I just not watching explicitly labeled ecchi? It seems to have peaked in the 2000s and declined since then, to be completely honest. Anyone help me out here? |

Because a large portion of the viewers are horny for 13-15 year old school girls(luckily you won't have to worry about them getting any anyways) and are virgins themselves. Obviously a big part of that is the creators as well. If a show is good I don't really care whether it has ecchi or not but it's a fairly rare phenomenon where it actually adds anything to a show. Like besides being a very old and tired out trope how often do people actually laugh at the skits where a dude gets a sneak peak of some panties or some girl/girls bathing "accidentally"? Unless of course you've never seen some panties in which case maybe you can find the humor in it even for the 50th time from the main character that looks exactly like all the other ones you saw go through it with a girl who has pink hair instead of blue hair but in the exact same school outfit even though they are in different shows and go to different schools. That said to each their own let them eat for the people that do enjoy it and watch something else if it bothers you that much. Even popular western shows like GoT have plenty of sex/nudity that don't necessarily add anything to the plot. Although I'd say seeing Emilia Clarkes tits is a bit more enjoyable than seeing some random 2d tits that barely give off the semblance of actual tits anyways. Then there is the case to be made where things can be sexual or give off that vibe much more subtly but that might actually take a modicum of creativity and it's much easier to just make a cut and paste ecchi scene. |
Jan 3, 8:02 PM

Then there is the example of 2,5d seduction where a lot of people are complaining that there is not enough ecchi in it. Now my question: Why do you need to have ecchi in an anime about high school girls doing cosplay? Basically, because the damn story is about doing erotic cosplay of erotic characters. The main female character literally wants to recreate the fanservice scenes from her favorite ecchi anime, and her biggest idol is literal a softcore porn cosplayer. Her first move? Going to an 18+ convention where they sell erotic material. Of course it’s necessary to reflect accurately and without sugarcoating what 'eroticism' truly means... Otherwise, what are they trying to tell us by framing all of this with censorship, guilt, shame? That doing all of that is wrong? Are they implying that the girl, who we're supposedly meant to respect, is somehow a degenerate whose behavior shouldn't be emulated in any way? |

Eye candy - Plain and simple. From the perspective of those who enjoy and support its inclusion, it obviously isn't "unneeded", but very much needed and desirable. As for myself, I'm relatively neutral or ambivalent. I'm fine with depiction of the most sexually explicit images and acts imaginable, yet I don't necessarily want excessive and goofy fanservice where it's not relevant in a way which detracts from focus on the story. But an occasional attractive or alluring shot isn't gratuitous or what I would qualify as distracting. It's a case by case basis. The age factor isn't relevant. That has a very simple and obvious answer, which is that boys and men are biologically hardwired to find younger women and girls attractive, down to at least the age of developing mid-teenagers, so of course most are going to be sexually provocative depictions of 22 year-olds or 19 year-olds or 17 year-olds or 14 year-olds, not of 85 year-olds. |

To me there is a difference between fanservice and erotic depiction. Fan service is what you see in typical romcoms or Prison School. Erotic would be something like Scum's Wish or Nana. I think the latter is much harder to do and of less interest to the Japanese male demographic. |

Because anime seeks more of an aesthetic experience than an intellectual one. It prefers to appeal to the senses, intuition, and emotions of the viewer. It heavily relies on the appreciation of qualities like beauty, which is why there is so much focus on female sensuality and beauty in all its forms. It’s no coincidence that there is where the entire moe culture and the kawaii appeal originate. Don't fall into the trap of saying that if something doesn't advance the story or doesn't serve a didactic or moral purpose, it should be discarded. Don't people spend hours contemplating landscapes just because it tells them something specific, or it does? Both reacting to a beautiful backside and to a majestic mountain have their roots reach down into the same natural aesthetic sensitivity. That society has chosen to label one as vulgar and forbidden has little to do with its power to move us or bring us happiness. Moreover, if we were to base value solely on move the story, then we should also discard gags, flamboyant fight sequences, background music, or even a well-drawn cloud in the distance. Clearly, there are ulterior purposes in any work, such as entertainment, immersion, tone, aesthetic value... |

Anime are not "needed" in the first place. They exist to make their audience happy. And anime-watchers are made happy by a diverse range of things which differs greatly from person to person, but one thing which makes a proportion of viewers happy is sexy shots of anime girls. (Or, indeed, sexy shots of anime boys, for a different subgroup of viewers.) So you get anime which have those in when they're thinking about that subgroup of viewers. You could equally accuse streams of puns, or shots of beautiful sunsets, or frenetic action scenes of "doing absolutely nothing for the story". They're all in because people like them, even if there are also other people who may dislike or be bored by them. It's entertainment. |

since there are too many posts with the same topic i try to answer to all of them: 1. This is no bait, but my honest oppinion. Its true that this is a fairly new account, which i created a few weeks ago or at least i started to use him. The reason for that is mainly because im a long time anime watcher but untill last year i basicaly only watched shounen and isekai stuff. Since i had some other people watch those to i could talk about them. But after that i "accidently" watched school days, which kinda made me so damn angry (worst anime in existance btw), that i thought to myself: "dear god, i need something that calms me down" and i started watched some romance anime, im not sure which it was. "The angel next door spoils me rotten" or something like that. And since then im in the romance/romcom rabbit hole and learned to love the genre. But i know noone in real life who watches those and i felt like i like to talk about them, so i started using this site and forum. Again im not trolling and really not ragebaiting or something, i want a honest discussion about that topic. now back to topic: Im not sure why, maybe its my age and when I was 18 i would have liked giant boobs on shion (slime) more, but now i just think it adds nothing to the story and just pulls me out of the plot. When i think about it i really think its my age. For example when i watch things like horimya, the angel next door spoils me rotten, or whatever i really find them cute. I mean they really could be my kids age wise, maybe thats why i kinda hate it when women and girls in anime are oversexualised without any appearent reason. Again, i have nothing against the erotic display of females, but i kinda dont get why shion needs to constantly put her boobs on rimurus head, just to go back to that example where the display of some of the women in a show add nothing to the show but catering some horny male fantasys. Thats what i mean if i say that stuff like that really puts the anime community in a kink corner which i dont like, because i and many other people i know watch anime for the characters, storys and emotions and not for anime boobs, where i constantly need to think if i can show a show to my son, because i dont want to teach him that women are just objects for your horny drives, even if the show would be totaly fine to show him storywise. Do i really want him to show fairy tail, a show about friendship (hate it or not) and cool fight scenes, or do i not, because women are constantly portroyed as objects to be looked at, and i want him to grow up as a man with respect for women and not a man who sees women just as an object to cater his sexual drives.. |

@WaterMage thats what i wanted to say. the manga seems to have started as an ecchi piece, for more naked anime girls to look at. While the anime is a million times better, because it went away from the easy to sell naked anime girls, and focused more on characters and their relationship and how they support each other |

@Nurguburu well, the seduction for me means that the protag kinda learns to love real girls in the show, so he got seduced by the cosplay to realise that real women are interesting too. seduction does not need to be in a sexual way but more in a metaphorical way in this case. |

@Wrathberry84 To learn that sexualization is nothing to complain about, it's a natural need just like eating food, and nobody complains about anime showing characters eating their bento, even though it's usually unneeded and does nothing for the story. |

@Zarutaku i beg to differ. sex is totaly normal and fine. And to show characters sexualised is fine too when it fits. And thats my point. but: the problem is not that sexuality is shown, the problem is how it is shown. the better analogy would be if you have a show about a high school romance, where every person constantly have a bento in their hands, no matter the situation. i dont have a problem with showing boobs, when 2 characters have sex or something like that. In the right situation its totaly okay for me to show "sex". My problem is if every single situation needs to be as sexualised as possible, no matter if the characters are talking normal, just walking down the street or whatever. An even bigger problem i have is if anime like fairy tail for example create complete out of context situations, just to have a chance to show their femal cast nearly naked or in seductive positions. |

Wrathberry84 said: So this is a topic about sexualisation of women in anime where it does absolutly nothing to the story and has nothing to do with anything thats going on. "Why so much unneeded sexualisation of women in shounen/seinen anime?" you ask? Let's flip the script one moment and ask "Why so much unneeded sexualisation of men in BL/josei anime?" Now the answer to both is "the target audience enjoys it", and fair enough if you disagree with it, if it's not your thing, so long as your morals apply to both scenarios But if you come up with some logic bending argument of "there's not as many BL and josei as shounen and seinen" or "men don't get sexualized half as much as women so it's ok" or worse "they deserve it!", then i'm sorry to say, you're nothing but a massive hypocrite |
