Anime has started since 1904 or something but most of them are experimental shorts. Then 1960's is the beginning of Anime tv series, most of them are black and white anime for kids. 1970's is the beginning of 1st Generation of Anime fans. The 1970's decade is where so many Drama anime are made because they're influence by Osamu Dezaki's Ashita no Joe; Then Mecha became a trend because of Go Nagai's Mazinger Z and many generic mecha anime are made for kids. Space Battleship Yamato was created and Space Opera became a Trend. Heidi as the 1st World Masterpiece Theater anime started the Slice of Life trend. Verdict : Innocent fans with Good taste, Pass! 1980's is the beginning of 2nd Generation of Anime fans The 1980's decade is the beginning where Anime fans evolved into the very 1st Otaku but most Otakus hate the Drama genre and it made them angry. Most anime made in 1980's are a bunch of Rule of Cool Mecha and Real Robot Mecha (because of Mobile Suit Gundam's popularity). then Urusei Yatsura started the Romcom School Slice of Life comedy trend, this is where Otakus gone crazy and many Otakus claimed it as Masterpiece. Then we got the earliest OVA's which most of them are good. Most Anime Movies made during that decade are High-budget with great Sakuga animation like Akira and a bunch of old Ghibli movies. Verdict : Good taste despite their hatred of Drama genre, Pass! 1990's is the beginning of 3rd Generation of Anime fans Most anime this decade got a bunch of coolest thing with tons of variety and Fantasy genre became a trend (it's all thanks to Record of Lodoss War). Then we get Magic Knight Rayearth which started the Isekai concept trend, Sailor Moon is the cause of Magical Girl genre became mainstream, Tenchi Muyo stared the Harem genre, Serial Experiments Lain cause the Psychological genre mainstream and Sunrise turned the Gundam Franchise into milking cashcow by making tons of Gundam anime during the current decade. Everything in anime industry changed when Neon Genesis Evangelion was made and turned into the 1st Late Night Anime. Japan created the Western Tribute Trio anime such as Cowboy Bebop, Trigun and Outlaw Star so it will pander to the western audience then many western people will watch anime. The worst part about 1990's decade is many OVA's are a bunch of Edgy Gore Schlock Garbage and they ended up to be forgotten pile of trash. Verdict : The beginning of Mainstream Otakus but they still had good taste as long as they hate those OVA Edgy Schlock trash, Pass! 2000's is the beginning of 4th Generation of Anime fans This decade is where all anime are drawn in Digital Painting by making the visuals brighter. Some anime had huge amount of variety and some of them flop and become forgotten. Most anime that are made are less space and focus more on Earth because making too much Space setting anime will bore the anime fans during that decade. The worst part about this decade is OVA Edgy Gore Schlock garbage evolved into TV series like Elfen Lied and it became Edgy TV Schlock that went mainstream. Harem and Ecchi is becoming popular because of Tenchi Muyo's success. Light Novel Adaptations are very rare and they still had good quality writing such as Kino no Tabi, Baccano, Spice and Wolf. The best part of this decade is 2006 and 2007 is the best year of Anime of all Time! Verdict : Ok fans, Pass! 2010's is the beginning of 5th Generation of Anime fans This decade is where Japan is having a long economical crisis due to terrible disaster that happened on 2011 and many Schlock Garbage are made and few good anime are made because they had lack of money and most target audience are horny otakus who cares about Escapism instead of Real life. Most Light Novel Adaptations abandoned the good story writing quality in the past and they focus on making Otaku Pandering LN by turning them into Commercial Advertisement to boost the original source material so Otakus will buy it. When SAO was made, The anime community begin to fall apart and many new anime fans became retarded horny beast. Time Reset became a trend in story writing because of Escapism and the writers doesn't want to face their problems in reality. The beginning where Anime is no longer a medium of story telling, Anime turned into COMMERCIAL ADVERTISEMENT medium! The cause of 2011 great disaster affects many Japanese people and they want Escapism and don't want to face Reality, this is why they're Traumatized. Depressed Traumatized Writers can't write good story. Verdict : These new otakus hate reality and wants escapism to escape the horrible tragedy of 2011 great disaster, GUILTY! From what Generation are you? I'm from 3rd Generation of Anime fan because i was born on mid 1990's. |

I started watching anime around late 1990's and my 1st anime is the original Dragonball before DBZ. It means i'm a 3rd generation anime fan. If someone is born from the 1990's then he/she started watching anime on 2000's then they're 4th generation anime fan or someone started watching anime on 2010's then he/she is a 5th generation anime fan. |

Ah I loved the 90s. I guess I'd consider myself 3rd? This was a nice read. My biggest influence was straight up reading Dragon Ball manga as a kid. It was so damn popular in the 90s, at least amongst my friends. Mother fuckin' Goku boys. |

Born in mid 1990's, and though I did watch a handful of anime as a child of that time, I wouldn't consider myself as part of that generation because: 1: I wasn't aware of what anime was and differentiate from other entertainment mediums 2: I was too young I guess I'd consider myself 4th generation(early mid-00's to be exact) since that's when anime was then solidified as a hobby/past-time for me. Maybe a teeny bit early since my friend would borrow manga from the library like Inuyasha and Naruto which we'd read together. Those years also hold lotsa nostalgia for me but that's irrelevant. |

I was born during the 2nd Gen (1989) although I am a 3rd gen anime fan, since this is when I started watching anime in the mid-late 90's. I remember watching Cowboy Bebop and Trigun when I was a kid and my friend and I would say that we were Vash and Knives lol. |

I don't know whether I fall under 3rd or 4th generation based on the years because I don't remember if it was 1999 or 2000 that I watched my first shows but I know it was one or the other. Although they were probably mostly from the 90s due to delayed localizations. Personally I very much follow the trend score wise and priority wise that I prefer anime as it becomes more modern. |

I mean Space Brothers came out in this generation and it is the greatest literature masterpiece of all time. Also there are plenty of great ecchi fanservice shows in this generation as well. |

Why are you acting as if taste is relative to the era you were born in? That's both an incredibly foolish statement and generalisation. You're incredibly biased OP, and I suggest that you review your whole analytical approach to media in general. |

Born in 80s and started watching anime in 90s. Is this another one of those generic old anime is better than new anime thread in disguise where old anime fan elitist brag how superior their taste really are? From my experience watching classic old anime Gundam, old anime is not any better than modern one. Yup,obvious bait is obvious. |

But it's important to remember that a movie review is subjective;it only gives you one person's opinion. http://www.classzone.com/books/lnetwork_gr08/page_build.cfm?content=analyz_media&ch=30 It doesn't matter if you like LoGH,Monster etc.If you are a jobless or college/school dropout living in your mom basement, you are still an unintelligent loser. Taste in anime does not make you a better person. If elitist don't exist, casual pleb and shit taste also don't exist. |

Oh look it's one of these threads again bashing current anime. Anime has always been a way to make money. Always. Do you think people just aired the things for the love of all in the 1970's-80's etc?
