I didn't even remember that it was CGI, because it didn't really have all of the negative aspects that tip me off (crappy character design, inhumanly fluid and "laggy" movements, kinda like"smooth scrolling" or mouse pointer "accuracy enhancement," etc) Yeah, although it lacked plot, it still looked good, so CGI can be done "correctly" by Japanimation studios. |

Game developers like Arc Systems works have gotten better at it, and there are a lot of people still working on it to make it better though. Regarding CG in anime. The best anime with CG characters is Etotama. The CG animators are Korean though. Japan still doesn't fully understand stylistic 3D. If you don't mind CG movies. You should watch Expelled from Paradise. It actually does handle the CG pretty alright. Toei animation has been trying to change after all their 2D animators left (I mean look at DBZ: Super) They made this though, and they're the ones behind Captain Harlock if I recall. Overall though, the only anime that I can say I've watched where the CG hasn't been too jarring has been Either way, CG has only recently been accepted by most people as something that improves the experience recently. Back in the day of early To Aru Majutsu no Index, when animators used CG to cut costs people raged, even though if you rewatch it most people won't notice it. Nowadays the attitude has changed and animators who specialize in 3D have gotten more opportunities to get better. It's never really bad anymore. Active Raid's little computer droid thing looked fine to me. If an entire anime was made with characters that looked like that I'd be good. |

I mean, look at this: Sidonia wouldn't be as captivating and memorable to me if it weren't for the CGI. Kingdom, however, would have been better off without CGI. Japan's love of 2D is a little stronger then that, but 2D is also hard and time-consuming. Like... drawing Giant Robots in 2D is not financially viable anymore. Gundam Reconquista took WAY too much money. Cross Ange brought them back bigger returns than Reconquista. I feel like, mundane stuff like super unimportant background characters and large moving complex objects will become 3D more often than not but characters will still stay 2D. 2D is much more expressive than 3D after all. For instance showing a guy getting cut is harder to do in 3D than in 2D. Losing an arm or being blown away... stuff like getting contorted and moved around is hard to do in 3D. They each have their own benefits and bring something to the table. Not to mention... 2D is more expressive than 3D. Honestly, shows like Macross Delta and Parasyte the maxim show where I think the future of anime is going. That and Chain Chronicle's anime will give us insight on how to use 3D and 2D in a more dynamic way. |

| Personally, CGI does not tickle my fancy but not because I do not enjoy it, but it takes away the opportunity for illustrators' to express themselves. CG still takes some talent of course, from documentaries I have seen, hard work is put into those chracter models and panoramic scenes. But with CG's, it is just basically when a model(s) is created and the animators take that model and manipulate it to however they want instead of manually taking that scene again and drawing it all over. However, when I watch a non CG anime, I could feel how much strenuous work the illustrators feel through the art depicted in said anime. Each scene can be told apart from precious ones with varying emotions and depth. CGs contain that aswell no doubt about it, but they just feel like robots to me. I just can seem to fathom their emotions and understand CG models. But CGs do not ruin the anime for me, no way. Can't justify a series just for their looks. However...if we're talking about the original one punch man manga by ONE....just kidding haha. |

| I don't mind it because it's something different however I don't like the frame rate on Ajin (I heard it got better after the first episodes but I have only seen the first episode so far because I've been busy), I guess it was still trying to look 2D animated but when it comes to that I would say rather be animated like CGI or just be 2D. Aoki Hagane no Arpeggio has a great CGI imo. same with Bubuki Buranki, but many people said the story was bad. well,to me, it was pretty good tho.... well, don't hate it too much, they use is because of some issue, for example; budget. it can't be helped. to decided whether the CGI looks good or not, it depends on how they make it. |

It's more difficult to integrate traditional hand-drawn animation and 3DCG than making a multimillion dollar photorealistic CGI. You don't want 2D anime to look like Final Fantasy right? This is the best by far Japan ever produced, and it does not look like generic Korean MMORPG CG like Etotama, they're literally trying to replicate 2D hand-drawn animation. The CG director have an experience in both traditional hand-drawn animation, especially on sakuga animation, and CG animation, that's why the outcome is unique, it's the first project that succesfully integrate anime sakuga in 3DCG animation. They made it possible, they won an award because of that, and made a buzz on CG community. Be warned though the movie have clanky parts like those in other CG anime, and those are not "bad animation", they lowered the frame rate on purpose lol, maybe a TV or monitor that have a frame rate control will solve the problem. They learned their lesson here, they realized lowering the frame rate will not make it look like 2D. |

| Full on CGI don't tend to look too bad, from what I've seen. It'll only get better as time goes on and it becomes cheaper for better CGI to be used. In the future it won't be just to cut costs but because it's affordable to actually do a decent job with it and make it look nice. I didn't think Ajin's CGI was too bad. The only real issue with it was the poor frame rate, but aside from that it was pretty decent. Bubuki / Buranki wasn't half bad either. |
