Now that its been out for almost a week, I'm sure most of you have seen it. In my opinion, I found it to be the best movie experience of my entire life. Better than Star Wars, Jurassic Park, and any other big budget movie made before it. AGAIN, its my opinion and that's how I see it.

That being said, how did you watch Avatar, and did the movie format affect your opinion towards the movie? As most of you know, the movie was released three different ways: Regular digital projection, Real3D, and IMAX3D. The first three times I saw it in Real3D and it was just pure awesome, but today I saw it in IMAX3D and the difference in clarity and detail is like night and day. Say what may about the storyline, I would definitely pay $15 to park myself in Pandora any chance I get! :)

So IMAX 3D is not Real3D? Man, I'm so confused. I saw it in the biggest IMAX in the UK, it was great.

I do hear good things about Real3D. Great, now I have research where the fuck it is.

I saw it in Real3D at midnight on Thursday. Can't say much for the story, but the quality of the 3D was bounds above anything else I have seen so far. I didn't have access to IMAX (at least not anywhere close), but I would have definitely loved to see it in IMAX3D if given the choice.

Ok, found a Real 3D cinema. Might have to check this out to see the difference, though I find it hard to believe regular cinema 3D could be better than IMAX...

I didn't. Should I watch it? I did not watch the cartoon btw. Also, most of theatres have it all on 3D, with ginormous letters pointing at it and more 1-2€ for the ticket.

There is no cartoon. Shogunyaro is just being funny.

Watch it, otherwise you'll feel left out later. Even if the story is boring or whatever, the experience is really cool.

In other news, how do you feel about your cartoon hero being played by a whitey? Sad times...

But, apparently they're going to make classic films like Terminator 2 and Jurassic Park into 3D. This is awesome news in my opinion, I'd rather classics in 3D rather than shitty remakes.

I'm still awaiting the plot twist that Mr. Shyamalan will pull out with the movie remake.

I saw it in RealD, only because the nearest IMAX 3D theater is about 10-15 miles away. I still plan on seeing it in IMAX 3D somehow.

Yes, I'm actually planning on seeing a movie in theaters twice. Crazy.

There's 3D variants?

The only ones I could find within a 300 km radius of me were normal cinema airings.

Ok, you can have my IMAX, just give me your RealD.

But seriously, James Cameron is just a master at making people see his films repeatedly. Even though the story in Avatar is clichéd, the guy just directs really well, the pacing is perfect and he's a rare Hollywood director who knows how to film action. There's none of that shakey cam bullshit here. The last action of the movie is awesome, I love aerial battles, those warships were huge.

I still cant believe so many idiots were doubting him, even after Titanic made a kajillion dollars. Shit, even I saw it three times (I cant believe it either, the movie is mostly boring and Celine Dion)

I think you misunderstood, the cartoon you saw was ''Avatar: The Last Airblender''..
but the ''Avatar'' movie this topic is about has another story ^^
here is the trailer:

I watched avatar last weekend in digital projection:3
(yeah, actually wanted to watch it in 3D but thats only in big cinema's here, in the cinema near my place they don't have the equipment to run movies in 3D)
I really think it's a much watch, it's one of my favorite movies now..
Imo the art was really well done and I loved the story :D

Just saw it today and watched it in Real3D, was absolutely amazing.

Im hoping this sort of thing could be the future of cinema because after all, who hasnt downloaded a feature film instead of paying for the overpriced tickets in ciinema's before?

This would draw audiences back in as downloading films cannot replicate this kind of experience!

Oddly sickened.

I agree, to a certain extent. My only concern is ruining the original film. IE: All the extra spliced CG in the remakes of the original Star Wars films.

Have you seen the 70 minute critical destruction of The Phantom Menace, and Lucas/SW in general that's been making the internet rounds this last few weeks? It's absolutely hilarious, the guy (whose voice is annoying, but on purpose) is so spot on with his observations, it's the best thing I've seen on youtube, maybe ever. One of the points he makes is what you just mentioned above, how Lucas just keeps shoving as much crap onto the screen, the fat fucking walrus completely misses the point of why we even watched SW in the first place.

That video's funny for many reasons. When he goes off-topic is the best. The basement scene especially is dark comedy gold.

Oh yeah, Avatar. Real 3D. I'm considering a petition that Avatar should never be released on DVD if only because it's pointless.

Haha, yeah that was hilarious. But my favourite part in the entire thing is this:

"What is wrong with your face?"

:D

Although it will lose a lot in 2D, it still looks good, the effects hold up. They're just not...3D. I guess Cameron's basically saved the cinema industry, we now have a reason to get up off our arses and actually go see a movie instead of torrenting it or whatever.

I saw it in Real3D at the IMAX theater. Yeah...

The guy working at the theater told us that there was no difference besides that IMAX 3D had a bigger screen and louder sound and gave us free tickets for the Real3D. I just loved the fact that the 3D wasn't "gimmick 3D," I felt like I was actually on Pandora. :)

How come there isn't a "35mm Film" option?
Where I live, digital projection is rare and 3D is even rarer.
The only IMAX cinema is 300km away from where I live so I only get to watch IMAX when I happen to be in the area.

Now that I've seen this topic, I feel like rewatching it in 3D...

Although there were some cheesy parts in the movie (like when michelle rodriguizes character dons blue war paint on her face and on the helicopter) the movie makes a point. even now in africa some people with no political power are being forced to mine tantalum in environmentaly protected areas of the congo. tantalum is a mineral used in computers, and mined cheaply brings down computer costs but at a cost to the people living there. also rain forests are being cut down at an alarming rate. that is why we're having talks on what to do about global warming. the story is fictional but the message is real. even if it's recycled we can't forget the valuable lessons of the past and present

Watched 2 times in 3d last week. Visually perfect. Special effects are outstanding. Not only the special effects, but the idea of that fantasy nature. The plot was meh... I knew what was going to happen before i went to the Cinema -.- It wasnt a total crap but it was really bad :P
Despite the crappy plot, I think this movie is a must see for everyone, even if you dont like special effect movies. But you just have to relax, forget about the plot and watch the scenery.

I saw it in Digital 3D. The IMAX one was sold out. I loved the visuals, and the 3D made it pretty cool, but the visuals weren't enough to make up for the story. It was so slow, but near the end it picked up. But still, visuals were amazing.
