So I am fairly new to this site, and I have watched only about 20 anime (I need to update my anime list), which I used to think was a fairly decent number. And then I come on this site and there's people who have watched 200, up to 600 anime..... HOW? I wish I had enough time to watch so many, but I have work and school, I only have enough time for 3 to 4 anime a day, sometimes less. I know it may have to do with the fact that I'm younger than the majority of people on here, but I have profiles of 14-16 year olds who have watched over 100. So, how do you guys manage to watch so much anime?

I am close to 16 and I've been watching anime for 3 or more years,so I guess having completed more than 100 anime is decent even though I have school, english lessons at the afternoons and spend time with my friends. It just need years.Take it easy, whenever you have time just watch some episodes.

I don't really watch cartoons at all but I have a relatively large list.

I'm not sure, it just happened over time.

Make a schedule and make time. I watch 3 episodes in the morning before school and 6 episodes before I go to sleep. I finish watching a 12 episode anime in 1 and a half days that way.
Raise it up, raise up the happiness.

Dont worry about it. It takes a lot of time to watch over 200 or so anime's. Just give it time, watch what you want to watch and when you want to watch it. There's no rush.

As for me, i just watch a few animes at a night and during the summer i watch until i get tired or watch until i dont have anymore anime to watch

I've watched for about three years(I started when I was 13), and I guess I just watched a lot over summer vacations? It's just something that slowly grew over time(Though I'm watching less than when I started, so my growth is much slower than before).

Don't worry too much about, the size of your list doesn't matter. Just watch when you want to watch.

It's not that difficult.

If you watch 3-4 episodes a day for a year, it'd be about 1095-1460 episodes. Which means you could watch 91-120 series of 12 episodes in a year. And that's without taking into account: Movies, OVAS, short series (with episodes of 5 minutes or less), etc.

You know anime's been around for a long time, right? If you watch 20 anime a year for 10 years, bam, 200 anime.

I guess that's true. I could have watched like 10 more anime if I had not wasted 130 episodes of my life watching Fairy Tail. -.-

I have a job in which I have to wait for customers to enter the shop and assist them, but I tend to have a lot a free time during work. And considering I work for around 8 hours, that's more than enough time to waste it watching anime.
I don't usually watch more than 5 or so episodes throughout the day, because of course I sometimes need a break from watching it, but when I get back from work I usually watch around 3 episodes before bed.
So my average day would have about 8 anime episodes watched.

This is a question I have asked myself in regards to users like Stark700, FGAU, spacecowboy, etc. How they have managed to watch so much for so long without burnout is beyond me.

Since you are new, you have much more good shows for you to pick-up than us. Think of it that way.

I prefer short lists...

Whenever you see a completed list, divide it by 3 and that will be the actual number of animus 80% users here on MAL have watched... they add shitty OVAs, 20 dragonball movies, upto 20 naruto movies, upto 20 pokemon movies... etc,... this would easily be more than 100...

Pretty much this, I personally just watch anime during gaming sessions or when I'm bored. I try to do 5 eps a day though.

I tried to manage ~5 episodes everyday, but it made me burn out after a while and I can't watch that much anime anymore.

OP, how do they manage? They probably have no other hobbies.

It's quite easy to guess, it's the same with every other hobby. Useless thread is useless and has been duplicated many times.

They've been doing it a long time, it's their main or possibly only hobby, they have more free time than you, they squeeze it in whenever they can, they watch airing anime, etc.

You can complete 21 anime a season if you watch 4 episodes a day. That's almost 100 anime in a year, times that by 5 years then it's about 500 anime. It adds up fast and that's only through watching 4 episodes or a little over an hour of airing anime a day. Someone with it as a main hobby could at least get 2 hours a day maybe even more.

Because I've been watching anime for 19 years of my 31 years of existence. It adds up over time. Especially if you:

1. Like a lot of different genres, so more things interest you
2. Watch lots of movies, OVAs, and short, 1 or 2 season series which take less time and add up faster
3. Tend to sit for hours and marathon things, because one or two season anime can finished in less than a day
4. Watch anime via all available sources, buying discs, streaming, television, and downloading
5. Don't have any other major hobbies or anime is your main hobby

Those things all contributed to my 1,500+ completed.

I've been watching for over 12 years and don't even have 300 complete entries on this site, and I like to think I watch a lot so eh. At 15 I dunno how many I woulda had watched but it probably woulda been close to what you have now and back then I didn't have as easy access to anime as is available now. My family's first computer was still a year or so away after all. I guess I'd say don't rush it and watch what you like. If your interest doesn't wane you'll start seeing those higher numbers eventually.

Stark, lanblade and Intro are legit though.

Ontopic:

I just love it, and have been for a long time. Most of my anime have been completed in the last 4 years (around 900) without any negative side effects on my life so I can easily imagine people just starting that kind of pace at an earlier age (when I was still more into live action or just other stuff in general and watched anime a lot more casually) and ending up with 2k or even a lot higher at the same age or even younger than me. I really started with 20 so it really should be easily possible.
I probably regret this post by now.

Well people add movies, OVAs, ONAs, shorts, music, commercials and all that to their list and those take a much shorter time than series. Even so, if you watch maybe 5-6 series during a season alongside your backlog series, by the time the season is over, you're gonna be adding maybe 10+ series onto your list, of course not including all those non-TV anime. Also, anime has been around for decades. Some people have been watching it for just as long. It's not surprising at all that there are people around with thousands on their list.

Not that hard, I have a steady 9-5 job and generally don't watch TV so after I get home I sometimes watch anime for a hour or so while relaxing, one example would be I watched Aoki Hagane No Arpeggio over the last 2 nights.

I would say it depends on how demanding your highschool is, for example my high school wasn't that demanding and I had good grades because of that so I could easily watch like 5 episodes of anime while doing other stuff like learning japanese and on weekends I could watch an entire series of 12 or 24 episodes. But now that I'm in university I've found myself watching more anime than before, in the end it is just a matter of organizing your time.
