When I saw the ending, as all the anime was sad and despressing, I was not waiting for any king of happy ending, but I was not waiting for such a bad ending...
I cried like a river when I saw what happened to Ran, and at the very end, it was as if a Dementor ( Harry Potter ) has taken all the hope, all the good feelings I could remember in my life...
I have never ever been that depressed because of an anime... and I will never be brave enough to re-watch it...

I was really disappointed that they all died, this could have been ended a lot better. Although they did make it so people won’t want a continuation of the series.

This show had a ton of promise coming into it. But for me, the final episode more or less sums up the entire series: incomprehensible events about lifeless or enigmatic characters that I have absolutely no connection whatsoever to. After the episode ended, I merely wondered why I had wasted so much time watching a ten-hour exercise in non-stop depression.

This is coming from someone who loves Serial Experiments Lain and Ergo Proxy, so it's definitely not the style, tone, or genre that put me off.

Don't know why but, the final scene where Ichise was lying and watching the hologram flower had the same effect on me as Spike's "bang!"...

People cried at the ending!? That's both hilarious and sad. I found the anime quite boring and saw it trying too hard to justify the mob war's connection with humanity's fight for survival. This anime is as boring as Gungrave.

I guess you shouldn't drop it and see the brilliant ending for yourself. It is nothing! like gungrave (slow paced ok, mobs present, but everyting else completely on different levels). Maybe you do not like the style or way of thinking of the director (I remember you from the shigurui reviews :) ). Maybe later you can give it another try with more patience, since this show was a very good example of a dystophia about human evolution.

I think I don't want to have the patience to try to watch the anime again. After watching masterpieces like Ghost in the Shell, Cowboy Bebop and Studio Ghibli movies that capture symbolism very well, Texhnolyze failed to capture with me its attempt to feel profound. It felt like a mix between Ergo Proxy and Gungrave. Ergo Proxy did a better job capturing the human will to survive.

I was very sad at the ending to see Ran end up as a texhnolyzed head-sac. The ending was excellently executed, but I felt kind of angry that Ichise was a static character for most of the series. Actually most of them were pretty static. Ichise only ended up growing near the end because he realized that Ran had looked after him in dire straits in the past. I guess hind sight is always 20/20, as they say. The Lakan leader eventually went crazy and decided to kill everyone and Konno seemed himself to be a bit off his rocker. I love sad endings sometimes.

Anybody notice how the entire series pretty much has one set of messages?

"No matter how much effort you put in life, you will fail in the end"
"Don't try to do in anything in life"
"Living is meaningless"
"There is no hope"

greaaaaaaaaat.......

i mean sure, it was kinda touching and all in the end but godddamn, really now, just toss a big sack of emo at me. After all the sadness and difficulties the main character and everyone else goes through, they're rewarded with a slow/brutal/wasted deaths. (i.e. Ran and Oonashi give their lives to 'restore' sanity to the city, and Ichise kills off the remaining inhabitants - those assholes deserved it, but still... what a vain death)

yea,

Great show that is just begging to be re watched. I don't know if it's quite as good as Ghost in the Shell, which it seems to be compared to for obvious reasons, but I do think it's much better than Ergo Proxy.

Ichise was an interesting character who rarely ever showed emotion, but when he did it was usually a great scene. The characters, overall, merely felt like vessels for the story. However, the other way to look at it is that the people had long lost their souls and emotions.

8/10

i cant believe u just said this was better than ergo proxy...it was good but not great

on a positive note the cinematography was great, but the show overall just wasn't that entertaining...for the most part it was dialogue and this dialogue did not have an enthralling grip on me until the latter half of the show.

This last episode was a great last episode indeed...executed very well. I love Rondo Robe

Ergo Proxy cares more about how it looks with its stupid mascara-ridden goth character and bunny-suit moe girl than exploring any worthwhile ideas, and when it tries it just waffles on with exposition and shit.

TeXhnolyze is real cyberpunk done good.

Just my wee little opinion.

But seriously, who had the balls to fund this proyect hah
It was good overall, i didn't like that they killed the main antagonist in the first half of the series all of a sudden, he was pretty badass even if he was doing it for the lulz.

At times I thought this anime got really slow and boring but it picked up allot of momentum these last few episodes and it pretty much redeemed itself.

I did expect main characters to die, I didn't expect EVERYONE to die; basically everyone died. It was a sad ending but I expected it early on (from the main character, setting, background, music, events), though I was still hoping for salvation. Didn't cry though, guess the story didn't quite draw me in enough.

For some reason, I have mixed feelings about this series and had real trouble about what to score it. It should deserve a 9 but somehow I don't want to. Since it was made about serious topics and didn't make me think "oh waste of my time", then it's worth a 8 I guess. The slowness, irregularities of the story, how the ideas are presented, and a whole lot of other petty things, makes me want to drop it to a 7 but I have to say that this show is worth the watch. 8.5 if there were half points.

By the way, I enjoyed Serial Experiments Lain very much, but this one hm.

The last few episodes have me feeling exactly the same, there were plenty of times in this show i was fascinated and equally as many when i was bored, but i found the ending genuinely saddening and even more so thought provoking, and for this type of show to be so thought provoking probably makes it a success.

I liked that last scene.. the contentment on his face just blew me away. Oh, and Ran pissed me off. She didn't really tell him correctly what was going to happen, he'd be the last one to die.. but he didn't cause any of that. She did nothing the whole time except run around and make people obsess over her. (for what? a few words telling them that they were all screwed over?!)
But that's probably the only ending of an anime i'll ever remember... who knows.

To my opinion, the slow atmosphere is one of the strong point of this series. If it consists of 13 but not 22 episodes it would be much worse.
The low speed is the best way to show the hopelessness of the situation.
About episode: it was really sad. It is really awful to understand that you're the last human in this world and you have lost everybody you love.
I can't sleep after watching it. The last scene was before my eyes for about a three hours. I felt so bad and depressive.
But i like the end. It is very very sad, but excellent.

Decent ending, I can't help but laugh at the sack of bullshit of everyone dying in the end. Theres a saying that goes like this " Life is shit, but like all things, it is constantly evolving, to what? we will never know, maybe to more shit".

Just think about it, Ichise never cared about things, not even to make them better even when people tried to help him . I'd say that life is all about Sugar and shit, you can eat one of them anytime.

I'm sad... even though the ending was quite satisfying for me, so I should me rather... happy? But then, can anyone be happy after watching this anime? I really like stuff like this... dead cities etc... I wonder how I'd feel if I was there, at the very end.

9/10 for me... P.S. I was truly amazed by the surface city. Truly, truly amazed.
