My friend's gay roommates love yaoi, but I'm guessing that's cause they're gay. I have heard of a few straight guys liking it too.

Such closed minded comments...

Anyways, of course, any male can enjoy a Yaoi/Shounen-Ai series. All it takes is an open mind. It's not you have to be homosexual to be able to watch it.

I agree here.

There is a totally separate genre aimed at gay men. It's not as poncy as yaoi.

I know a few guys that read yaoi. None of them are gay. A couple are bi or just effeminate. The males in yaoi don't really represent real guys, and are usually too girly for actual gay men. I'm not gonna analyse it here, I'm currently in the middle of doing research on yaoi for one of my essays at university, teeheehee.

But yeah, there are straight guys that read yaoi, just like how there are a lot of lesbian girls that read yaoi.

Interesting topic :3

I'm a straight male, and the closest I've ever gotten to watching/reading shounen-ai would have to be the Tokyo Babylon OVA (which didn't directly display any shounen-ai connections, but it was a little bit hinted) and the X/1999 manga, but I stopped reading it before it really came to any shounen-ai parts.

As with ecchi, it depends on how it's executed, really. As with Yuri, Yaoi's definition is not stagnantly revolving round homosexuality, but could also be defined (just as Yuri is otherwise defined) as brotherly love or a tight friendship between two male friends.

You could say it's being blissfully ignorant, but I feel that if you don't take the pervertic aspects into consideration, Yaoi is a really clean subject to talk about, really.

Can you name any Yaio that's legitimately an anime/manga masterpiece? I can't, and unlike Yuri there isn't any sexual reason to watch or read it. Why watch something I'm not aroused by that isn't all that great when I could be watching Full Metal Alchemist or Last Exile or some other amazing show I haven't gotten around to yet.

I have seen one shonen-ai anime, It wasn't bad, I just feel weird and disgusted. Since then I have not tried any yaoi related material but right now, I'm watching Togainu no Chi but I didn't know until now that it was shonen-ai. Most likely will stop watching it if it gets any more gayer than it already is.

wow, guys try going to the /y/ board and make a census there. being anon makes people more honest.

There are of course guys who likes yaoi/shounen ai stuff. Some will admit it and some don't. I know lots who do and this includes my brother. Though I never questioned his sexuality he seemed to have a thing for trap characters and shonen ai but at the same time he enjoys the usual moe stuff.

Are there men who like shonen ai and yaoi?

Yes, there are men that like shounen ai. Some of them are straight and some are bi/gay-- but that doesn't really matter, since they're males in the end. Silly question by the way.

Lol this question made me laugh. XD

All I can really say is: Ofcourse there are! Straight or gay, it doesn't really matter, there are men that watch/read yaoi, shounen-ai, bara, whatever.

I know on aarinfantasy there are two clubs called: Aarin guys and Aarin girls.

There are currently 546 aarin guys in their club, and 896 girls in the the girls club.
So yeah, the guys are def. behind, but they are still definitely present.
(Ps, Aarinfantasy is basically one of those internet yaoi headquarters.)

I cracked up at the mostly straight bit, not gonna lie.

But in regards to the topic: I watch yaoi for the plot

I am happy though that I'm not the only straight guy that watches/reads it though... lol

I'm a guy and I like Togainu no Chi which is Shounen AI....though when it does get to the BL scenes I tend to pay less attention just cause it's usually nothing important...though, I won't lie. I did expect something different when I seen shounen AI on the tags for it and I'm happy I got something completely different from what I expected, so don't let the shounen AI tag keep you from good series!

Eh, people are cynical like that. I don't mind homosexuality that much, and even though I'm obviusly turned off by it, as I wrote, I appreciate the artistic values of some nicely done Yaoi that revolves round brotherly relationships. Half of the people here avoid Yaoi probably because they are still stuck in the primitive mentality that 'homosexuality' is evil.

yaoi isn't always bad, it just depends on how the series is depicted. i would consider antique bakery a good example. maybe not exactly fitting the description, but its not over the top either

Antique Bakery is a good shounen ai. It doesn't over power you with homosexuality and yet it doesn't hide it either. It was very nicely done.

I dont see why any reasonable, sexually secure straight man wouldnt be able to enjoy a shonen-ai.

Except for the fact that shonen-ai mostly sucks, theres a few (read: very few) decent shows out there, most of them are crammed full of fan-service, and sexually secure or not, a bland bishonen harem is only gonna float the boat of the wrong kinda of yaoi fangirl.

As for Yaoi, meh, a bit harder to stomach I would guess, I wouldnt blame people for being turned off by men on men action if they're straight.

This is like asking "Do 100% heterosexual men like to have sexual fantasies about men?" And the people who say no are called close minded.

If 100% heterosexual guy likes yaoi then he's not obviously 100% hetero. Retards.

The mangaka that draw Black Butler is - I think - also a yaoi mangaka or at least a fujoshi.

That's so dumb. Do you have any idea how many girls like to watch shounen and yuri "even though they aimed towards males"?

People can watch whatever the hell they want. There is nothing they "shouldn't" like.

They're shounen ai, but Love Stage!! is a good anime, and Hanamai Koeda de Aimashou is a great manga.

My scores definitely are lower than the stereotypical fujoshi, but I do enjoy yaoi and shounen ai. Of course, I also enjoy yuri, shoujo ai, and gender bender, so I'm all over the spectrum.

I'd recommend you to read Golden Days, Hidamari ga Kikoeru, Mauri to Ryuu, Sakura Gari,Zankoku na Kami ga Shihaisuru, some works of Miyamoto Kano-sensei. They're all beautiful, some are sad too.
I think scores have nothing to do with our enjoyment to that genres. I rate a lot yaoi/shounen ai with very slow scores cause they aren't good imo. I'm fine with yuri, shoujo ai, gender bender as well, but I still prefer to read/watch yaoi and shounen ai
