Sadly this was an anticlimactic ending and Otonashi was just a hypocrite in the end. As romantic as it was it also felt so forced and overdramatic. My rating went down to 6, series had a lot of potential but failed to deliver :/

Soo the only thing i want to ask is how did Kanade appear in the afterlife first if she died after receiving his heart?
The ending was not really confusing at all other then that flaw... I can't get the rage over unexplained things so I'll explain.
-Everyone DIED. How the hell could they be in comas? Unless Otanashi can live without a heart?
-It was said that those who fulfill their desires will be reborn with the same soul. Just think Air ending essentially. (Which is meh for reusing it but as a Key fan *thumbs up*)
-It doesn't matter how Yuri and Kanade died. The thing that sent them there was their regret they had; Yuri was not protecting her sisters, and Kanade not thanking Otanashi.

I agree that this should of been longer, but there is nothing we can do about that. Seeing how everyone was able to vanish at whim i am going to guess that it wasn't anything as serious as the main cast's problems. I'll state again that i am a huge Key fan but i was going to give this a 9/10... Until i bawled my eyes out this episode.

I don't expect the special to be anything but some funny filler-like episode... but let's get those fingers crossed.

Kanade took the saying "take someone's heart" to a whole new level with Otonashi.

Some people may dislike him because he had doubts in the end and changed his mind but I think that just makes him more human.

This

+, why would it matter if Kanade had Otonashi's heart? Its not like you need organs to survive there (because Otonashi doesn't have any, duh), and why the heck can she not say that she loves him because she has his heart...?

I wrote a massive /rant PM to my friend a couple hours back, and this was one of the main things that majorly irked me.

The 14th episode can be filler as all get out for all I care so long as it takes place IN THE EPILOGUE and isn't some random discontinuity/non-included scene deal from the school.

Btw, in the epilogue, Kanade was humming "My Song" probably part of why Otonashi turned. Take it how you will. Either they remember, or it implies that most all of them also turned out fine including the band. I don't find it to be entirely coincidence that they have matching pendants either.

Well....I just finished this "Could-be" awesome series today.I did enjoy though. At first I thought, yuri and Otanashi would develop some feelings.Well...whatever,I didn't hate otanashi's feelings about Kanade.

I expected a second season when I saw the pre-final episode, just like they made second season for Clannad.

Anyway,it had a bitter-sweet ending with some loop holes left open.I don't think they will cover up for it in the special episode.I kinda expected too much from this, even after I read many reviews of AB.I liked the TK character.I expected an backstory for him,and I was disappointed in it too. After watching this whole one,I feel it did have some good points like the backstory of Yuri.I was touched by it.The OSTs r great too.Bt,I liked the Clannad one better.

Atleast make a better one next time,KEY !!
Dont let the viewers get disappointed like this ;)

Well that was... different.

-Mapo Tofu song? Eh, why not.

HIGHLY reminiscent to the train tracks scene in 5 cm per second, I'm sure everyone remembers that heh.

-THAT'S what it reminded me of. I knew I had seen something like that before.
-Takamatsu wins the "I Got Better" award.

-Part of me really wanted to see Otonashi become the new Architect (what I call the guy from ep. 12). He would recreate the Angel Player program and turn himself into the NPC that runs it in order to forget the pain of losing Kanade; his motivations are kinda similar to those of the original programmer. That's just me though.

Angel Beats! is over! T_T
It was the show i was looking forward most of the week and the season.

I enjoyed every episode to its full extend and hoped for a good ending.
The ending was really good, you just have to consider, that this series was a 13-episodes one in the beginning and that Key couldn't fill the "holes" as much as we wished to.
I really haven't fought about the heart-transplantation thing, so it touched me a bit, while i haven't expected it.

Too bad there weren't not more informations about Yuri and Kanades Death or previous life. Would make more sense as letting them change their attitude completely... nonetheless Yuri was cute <3

Thank you Key for 13 weeks of Angel Beats!

Well the music was always amazing. The episodes were entertaining, though the story moved pretty quickly and had random twists. I still liked it though, but they shouldn't have changed Kanade's and Yuri's personalities so much for this last episode. It had so much promise in the beginning but it lost some steam in the end since they had to make all the characters disappear.

I thought some of the other episodes were much more powerful and emotional than this ending. It definitely could've been ended better. Overall, 8/10 for me.

i just watched it 15 minutes ago. and until 3 minutes ago, tears were still coming down my face. i mean normally i can handle it. some anime make me cry like Kanon and Clannad but the finale to this was heartbreaking. might not have been the greatest length or have had wasted potential, but i still thought it was really good.

Dammit, Angel Beats pulled off another 'Key'.
I don't even know why I liked the ending, but it just felt so... sad?
Ah... 10/10.
Why? I don't even know.

I do like the little twisted ending with Kanade being the person who received Yuzuru's donation. I thought that was pretty cool. And I always just love Key's epilogues, they really do conclude a beautiful ending.

As for the 'flaws', I think we have to look past it. I don't think the author wanted the viewer to pay attention to the minute details but to the overall picture of a story about life and the after life, and in the end, what comes out of it all.

Also notice that at the ending of each episode when the chars appears one by one, it seem as Otonashi is staring at Yuri (because Kanade isn't there),
but in fact he is staring at Kanade-as you can see at the 13th episode's ending where she does appear.

gave it a 7 in the end for having the plot resolved within these 13 episodes. the execution could have been far better with twice the episodes and actual character development.

Well... I don't know what to say about this.

Angel Beats! isn't really what I'd been expecting. I'd expected a drama with a strong plot and serious action.
Instead, we got an average comedy with some extremely random plot(s), a little bit of action and that's it.

It's also got a lot of plot holes (Who is Kanade, what's her story, what the hell is she doing here etc etc), and the jokes just felt misplaced and urgh.

The thing I really enjoyed bout Angel Beats! were the action sequences, some of the funny scenes and mainly the background stories from the characters.

It was an enjoyable ride afterwards, but it wasn't what I expected it to be.

8/10

Also, Yuzuru falling in love with Kanade? Wut, randomness AHOY.

I also agree that it was slightly unexpected for Otonashi to suddenly develop feelings for Kanade, it was sort of anticipated but was just too fast at the very end. But technically, you'd prefer him to be crying like a pussy as opposed to Kanade right? Imagine the roles reversed in that last scene...probably better the way that it did actually happen.

In the anime world, who says there's only one purgatory? Wherever they "move on" to could also be another world, it's not like you know for sure that their existence is erased permanently. Imagination keeps the options open.

Thumbs up at the final twist, that Otonashi did in fact manage to save someone's life through organ donation, now he has solid proof to be able to move on; and the irony adds on because Kanade also told him earlier that she was sure that his donated organs were able to save someone. She knew that she was the one saved by him, but he was only accepting her word at the time.

EDIT: Yeah, thumbs down for the time difference between Otonashi and Kanade arriving in that world. Missing some explanation there.

Overall gave this a 7/10. It started off pretty well, but lost a lot of impetus towards the end.

I nearly stopped watching during the first half of this episode though, everything seemed so moe-ified. I guess they just wanted to lay on the fanservice...

Wish they'd not added that scene at the end, such a cop-out. A bad ending was what the series was crying out for, especially with Otonashi being the 'bugi in the system', how the hell was he supposed to leave? Oh, well.

A decent series, but in the top 100? I don't think so.

Like stated before, the biggest mistake made while producing Angel Beats! was the 13 episodes. Now that we've all seen the end, I think it's pretty safe to say that I speak for most of the people here if I say that Angel Beats! could've been much better if we had another 13 episodes, what's the point in having ~10 characters that are all semi important if you're just gonna let them disappear off screen?
Why does Yui get her 24 minutes of fame, while Yuri gets literally 15 seconds.
Why don't we get to know anything from Kanede's past, other than that she needed a new heart? AND WHY THE FUCK DO WE NOT KNOW MORE ABOUT TK?

I think we all expected too much from the final episode, hoped that it'd turn out to be one awesome ending, but were just too many questions for one episode.

Damn you and your 13 episodes

I really think everyone should try writing a scenario of their own someday.
Really unless it's a ridiculously long anime, anyone other than the main few are just there for the sake of it. Although some of the characters should really be explored further(oh wait one of them. The Ax/PoleArm wielding guy who really cares about Yuri for absolutely no reason.),people like TK who unless I'm missing something. I mean hell he doesn't even speak AT ALL. And I don't want to get into the Ninja Maid because a regret like failing to protect her WARLORD or something doesn't fit here.
About Yuri's lack of fame time, one way to say it is the battle between main characters and she just lost so DISAPPEAR!!!! she goes.(Really she has no more regrets so no point dragging on her drama..) Either way repeating those scenes with her wide eyes is less enjoyable than Yui's 24 minutes agree? I find her episode besting even the drama between Kanade and Yuzuru.
Secondly are you a fan of Taiwan dramas? Hell the main point is the are all dead. Regardless of how they die, they died. There's no need to show how Kanade or Yuri died. Hell Yuri might have suicided right after her siblings died and turned adolescence in 'The World'. Or they just all died of heartbreak(Clannad). And how they got here? Doesn't matter cause they are here already. 'The World' is a fully functioning regret fulfilling place and the story is Yuzuru's AKA the bug in the system AKA the one that will save everyone AKA Messiah.
And lastly I'll add that I don't find this so much a train-wreck as some of you. Sure it isn't totally heart warming and tear jerking but considering it's set in a rather lame situation, its good enough that it is heart warming. So somewhere between 6 or 7 would be perfect as a score =).

EDIT:I forgot to touch on the timeline subject. Well it could be the same mechanism as Clannad lights and all...or it could be a state of Akasha in Nasuverse...Take your pick because another world does not exist in our Reality(as far as my knowledge carries me...)so any other explanation would be equally strange as well.

Well.. mostly i don't care about plot holes or each and every minute stuff.. but this time I really don't understand the whole point of afterlife.. since when they were living in afterlife? and with some kind of regret then why yuzuru reached there by wandering becuase of lost memories.. kool, and how much time they spent in afterlife (i mean whole yurippe group).. who was the first enemy of yurippe group? if it was kanade. who died after yuzuru but was already there when yuzuru awake (and i think before too long that she managed to invent alot of special skills and powers). and why yurippe group started fight with a little girl just because people disappeared if they become her friend.. and how she managed to gather a complete platoon against one girl and secret hideouts. why there were all teen agers in fighting group and everyone gathered in a school and become a student. and was that platoon members were also deads. i think so. then why they start making guns and bombs.. are they idiots.. atleast they can guide a teenager girl yuri who want to fight against another teenager.. oh man i can go on and on. i still have lots of questions left.. but who cares...

though i don't hate this series. my score is still fine.. its was enjoyable for different reasons not plot-wise. it can be very good or great if there weren't too many flaws.. though i think alot of peoples may disagree with me.

I am not sure what to exactly think about this. Characters from the SSS like TK, ninja-girl, etc. they just disappeared, nothing more. Those characters have been quite messed over by the screen time, they didn't even give them a proper ending. I feel that's quite sloppy.

I guess that's one of the cons due to the given episodes. The scene with Kanade and Otonashi was cute, I liked that. It felt rushed and somewhat awkward though. I mean Otonashi suddenly bursting out in tears, right.. but okay. It was okay, I suppose.

I cannot rate this show any higher than an eight, it was good, but it still had it's flaws and some characters were nothing more than a screen filler. Afterwards I am curious why they spend a whole episode on the disappearance of Yui, which was basically a side-character, whilst other side-characters didn't even got nearly the same screen-time.

For the sake of it, lowered my rating to a 7. I think they could've done so much better, it actually disappoints me to be honest.

You're generous, I rate Angel Beats at a 6/10.

if it was the after life they everyone got reborn back into the real world. it makes perfect sense to me. and it took me a little while to realize what kanade ment by saying she got his heart. and i remembered the organ donation thing. but ya they all left the afterlife and kanade and yuzuru found each other again. great funny and emotional anime. i loved it. some people may think my score for it was to over the top but i understood the anime from a different point than most people so the ending makes perfect sense to me. 9/10
